LYRICS
Got a bad feeling that I’m about to break,
Been a good streak
but the pressure’s overweight,
Is it even good for my head to keep track,
If I’m gonna snap necks, then I gotta snap back.
Got a bad feeling I’m gonna lose the lead,
Running from a thing that I kicked in ’17,
Is it even right for my head to keep track,
If I’m gonna snap necks, then I gotta snap back.
Have I burnt all the bridges?
Bite the hand that helps me, Give it finger stitches,
Blacklisted from forgiveness,
Fool you once, it's been twenty-five times.
It’s a backslide, I commandeered a hot ride,
Drove it ’til the engine died,
All of that progress lost today.
Oh it’s you, well, welcome back to the show,
Been a minute,
Guess I better move to a fresher approach,
Thought I kicked it,
It’s a new adaptation.
It’s a backslide, I hate the surprise,
And now it’s all gone,
All of that progress lost today.
I have seemed to run out of excuses of why I am this way.
I’ve been praying for my elasticity
to return to the way that it was.

Anyone else feel like their albums come out at the time when you need them most? I was literally sitting on the couch last night feeling like I used to years ago, things feeling too big to tackle. 100% I started feeling that way, slightly, as I went through the album. Then I landed on oldies station and was stunned into silence. I was in the car with partner after telling him all I’m going through and how I’m actually doing, and oldies station really just described my entire situation perfectly. It’s crazy how this album found all of us during a difficult/strange time in our lives. I’m glad we all have it

This whole song and music video is exactly what relapsing is like. You’ve been clean for so long (symbolized through tylers outgrown hair) and it’s suddenly completely stripped away from you. You have nothing else to do but look back at when you were clean, dance in your defeat to find where you went wrong, and wait for your streak to grow back. Everyone is talking about the Car Radio references, but I can't stop thinking about the fact that he's talking about the beginning of the Clancy story overall. He's talking about how he's running from something that he kicked in '17, which was the year Trench was being written. Also, in the first pre chorus, he says, "It's a blackside, I commandeered a ride, drove it 'til the engine died. All of that progress lost today." which makes me think back to Heavydritysould and Jumpsuit, the "hot ride" being from heavydirtysoul, and "All of that progress lost today" when Tyler gets recaptured and taking back to Dema. I genuinely might be reading into this wrong, but this is what this song feels like to me, not a reference to Car Radio, but a reference the the very start of Clancy's story.

Something that is always going to bring me back to this song (and music video) is Tyler’s dancing. As soon as I saw it hit so hard because I keep being reminded that the things that he sings about are the things that I’m currently experiencing. one of the ways that I deal with the uncontrollable storm in my mind is to let my body move in any way that it can to express that emotion. This song captures that 'oh shit' moment when you realize you've relasped/fallen back into hold habits and now you've gotten pull yourself back up from that trench you worked so hard to crawl out of in the past. The defeat, frustration, annoyance with yourself and at the same time that determination you get when you know 'okay I've done this before, time to do it again, time to win again' feeling. It's so hard to capture, and this song did it so perfectly I cried so hard with I heard it first. I have no words...just amazing.
2:04 sound and Tyler's singing following it is a different kind of pain. Like coming to a term with something you've done and you can't change, realising how dire the situation is, but despite the melancholy and everything the song ends with an upbeat tone, almost as if there is still hope. The light at the end of the tunnel.

So well said! Took the words right out of my mouth. I love this album because it evokes so much pure emotion… every now and then I have to take a break though. ❤️😆 I love these guys. Hope you’ve been encouraged.
time to pour my heart out. i’ve been struggling with substance abuse for the past couple years, constantly swinging back and forth between cleaning myself up and falling off the wagon. it’s a vicious and unforgiving cycle. this song, and vignette too, hits painfully close to home for me because of this. it makes me think… growing up and maturing with twenty one pilots has been so surreal, because if clancy had been released when i was a younger fan, it likely wouldn’t have resonated as hard as it does right now. tyler just knows when to write these songs, and who to put them out for. the timing is always right for me. i’ve been following them for over a decade, and their songs are undoubtedly a part of my life. sobriety is so hard it feels impossible, but i can’t let the little girl who found this duo die. i can’t lose this music, not after losing so much of myself. i hope to still be here for the next phase of their journey, as well as mine - and the next phase, and the next phase. goodnight

it's good for us to remember, that when you crushed to something you used to, once again, it does not erase your progress. you came far away, but stumbled, and it's how it is, might happen some times. take a rest, then keep going. it did not erase a thing, you did well. it's okay.
Something about this one… I’ve listened to the whole album… and there’s just something about this one.
At the end, he didn't sit in silence... he danced... until those blinding lights appeared (which reminded me of the Ride music video). And it also reminded me of Redecorate because he pulls a mirror from under his blankets "Blankets over mirrors, she tends to like it/ She's not afraid of her reflection/ But of what she might see behind it".

It is real. Tyler's authenticity both lyrically and as a person in general is what keeps me hooked to this band. The same for Josh. Even though he doesn't write the lyrics, his genuine warmhearted disposition is something you don't see much in people generally, nonetheless in celebrities. I relate so much to the lyrics, they make me so emotional. “It’s been 25 times, and it’s a backslideeee” hit so different.” Can’t forget “I have seem to run out of excuses for why I am this way.” I’m thankful for what I have overcome in mental health and I pray you all do the same. I love you all, stay alive. ❤
This song means a lot to me. For me it's about depression/self harm and unfortunately I can relate to this. Tyler whatever you're going through you're never alone and please stay strong. This whole album means a lot to me because it's helping me recover from an eating disorder and other stuff and when I listen to Clancy I feel like someone is understanding me
Spiritual meaning for cutting hair is: A release, a letting go, a transformation, a potential for change.
I’m so glad this one did make it to the album. I immediately felt like crying when I saw this video/heard the lyrics in the premiere and knew it would be my favorite
This was my favourite so far
Tyler coming through again, helping me cope with my fears and traumas through sick beats. Thanks for making growing older less scary.
This song hits my heart!!
Larga vida a TØP❤🖤
the most overlooked song in the album EASILY
This song came at such a perfect time for me. When it came in my first album listen I was uncontrollably sobbing and felt once again, fully seen and understood in a completely new stage in my life. This album has been healing, always appreciative of this music and group who’ve time and time again reminded me of my capability, and shown me motivation.
This might honest to god be one of the most beautiful songs ive ever heard... I just know this one's gonna stay with me a long time 🥺
I’m going to be honest. I think this album is going to get the Gorillaz Plastic Beach treatment. I don’t think it’ll get the flowers it deserves until a couple of years when people see how incredibly well the songs age.

Agreed. My first few listens of Clancy I was like this is good but not up to their standards...this isn't on the level of Trench or Vessel. A month later I'm obsessed and completely convinced that this is my favorite Twenty One Pilots album. Incredible. Every single song keeps growing on me.
One hundred percent my favorite song on the album hands down
Underrated
Everyone talks about how they like the other songs on the album but for me this one takes the cake as my favorite
now i get why tyler said he would always defend this song ❤️🩹
Omggg the car radio references 😭💔 and also I pray those lights will call my name?? Plus OMG BACKSLIDEEE!! Like.. omg that one broke me tbh when I released. Like about relapsing like I felt that as someone that deals with sh in the past, plus also idk.. emotionally I’m not okay and deal with a lot a very hard and heavy on myself. I deal with a lot I don’t talk about, but gotta snap back like flight back. And how Tyler stared dancing gave me sai flashbacks can that also say something? That to fight it off or dema maybe? But omg this band NEVERR disappoints musically or music vids, I love all the little references and how things tie together (the backslide.. but me too Ty you aren’t alone. But you and Josh keep me going no matter what)

Shut the hell up brother
I was hospitalized in 2017 because of how bad my OCD was, and I got better for a bit, but recently I’ve felt so much more anxieties creeping in and making me feel worse than I have in a while. This song is one of my favorites

PLEASE DO show him/her the video or play the song for him! Sometimes it is very hard to explain in words what one can in music, lyrics and art... tell him or her as well why this resonates with you or TOP in general... there us a key you both can find together in the experience... the key that will open up another level for you, one that will allow you to grow, heal and progress on your journey with a smile on your face. This music is medicine for many of us, young and old.... have faith that you are going to be alright and probably better than even alright. Good luck. Enjoy!

same my friend... this time last week i was incredibly on the edge and didn't know how to ask for help. then clancy drops and i just feel so seen in every inch of these lyrics. i am right there with you. keep fighting 🩷
I hope all this love you receive from your fans, the love of your family and friends keep you going Tyler. As much as these songs help us i hope they help you too.
I think he’s also talking about possibly having a temper. Which Blurryface can bring that out. But “If gunna snap necks, then I gotta snap back.” I take that for not loosing his cool. A habit he did a way with back in 17. Think about it, “I’ve been praying for my elasticity to return to the way that it was.” Not snapping at people or loosing it. Would bring you to pray for that kind of emotional control. I absolutely LOVE this song, it’s my favorite! I also can relate because I use to have a temper & snap a the ones I loved or even didn’t. I hated that side of me. I’m not in that place anymore. I credit to God & dancing it frees you!! ❤
This video is full circle.

This album came at the perfect time for me. I’m sober, but after so many changes (new home and new job) I felt like I was about to snap back. I can’t wrap my fingers around why I never understood all the references they used to addiction all this time, maybe it’s cause I wasn’t looking for it. Stay alive y’all.
hell of a dangerous song.
Once again TØP surprising us with incredible songs, I loved it
I felt a different feeling when I heard this here, it wasn't a bad feeling, quite the opposite, it was a wonderful feeling that I hadn't felt in a long time, the feeling that I'm alive again, something I haven't felt in a long time I don't even know why I felt it, but I felt it (I'm sorry about my terrible English, I'm still a beginner so I still use some help from the translator haha)
Best song of this album
I think this song is SEVERELY UNDERRATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of my favorites on the album!
This is an anthem
I can't handle so many emotions, I love them 🫶
This is the best song on the album and you cannot change my mind
i've sit in silence to hear him talk, yet it felt like i was letting my whole heart and soul out. i've been struggling with the many faces of addiction for more than 4 years now and only those who actually relate to the feeling of guilt, selfishness, lack of love and any kind of emotion at all, replaced for the will to use, will know what means to relapse, to start over and over, to fall down and to get up again. the healing isn't always instant about a heal, but to get to know you again - what gracious it is. thank you 21 pilots.
Snap Back is my hype song. Every time I sign it to the sky I feel like I can keep fighting ❤
