Tutorial How to stop on inline skates with the T-stop without spinning out using 2 corrective drills

Спорт

This question from Ace Noir via Facebook reveals such a common problem. Spinning out of a T-stop is the frustrating effect of not having the correct technique in terms of weight distribution and conscious edge control. Incorrect technique is most commonly the cause of skills not working (and not lack of physical strength).
In this video I show you the 2 main reasons that cause spinning and provide 2 useful drills to help you fix the problem.
The Skatefresh Method shows you how to build all the foundation skills you need to accomplish each skill in turn, ideally BEFORE you then attempt the skill (and fail).
What if you learned new skills in this progressive way? You'd suffer less frustration and achieve noticeable improvements every time you skate. This makes the whole experience much more fun, safe (fewer fails & falls) and effective.
Do you learn new skills by just trying to do them over and over?
How's that working out for you? Let me know in the comments.

It's been ages since I've scated now but I remember struggling with T stops soooo badly and I ALWAYS assumed it was because I wasnt able to lift up my back leg enough to take the weight off the skate. never occured to me at all that I could just put more weight on mt front leg. I can't skate where I'm living right now, but I'm looking forward to practicing this the next time I can!

@christopherthewholething This is very gratifying to read. By "NAILED it" I do hope you mean she can slide in the T-stop to a complete stop???? So many people do not slide to a stop and think that the work is done. That's the only way to KNOW that the T-stop is nailed. Congrats to Ace!

@@SkatefreshVideos Sorry to disappoint but I haven’t seen her skate since she’s watched the video! But you nailed the description of what she was doing wrong when attempting it earlier this summer so I know that these corrections will definitely help her improve. It was amazing that you were able to put perfectly into words what she needs to do without actually seeing her skate. I will report back, we have a trail skate planned next week!

I’m 70 years old and a halfway decent mountain biker for an old guy and thought inline skating would be easy…Wow I was so wrong and need some serious help. This is the third time I’ve been on skates. My ankles flop around too much. It feels like I’m straight up and down but when I look down at my boots, they are leaning 15 degrees to the left or right. They are ZETRABLADE Rollerblade with four 80mm wheels. I’m doing your videos, the different ways to stop and your balance drills and it helps. I skate with a girlfriend who cross country skis Very Well. We go out for an hour, she logs 6 miles, I log 4. I wish I could keep up with her. Cheers …Craig

Hi. This is Sergio from Skatefresh Team. The Rollerblade Zetrablade is a very good skate if you are a beginner, unless you weight more than 85kg approximately, and as long as the skate is brand new (or quite new at least). Why? Because it's a fitness model, therefore the boot is soft and will tend to lean inwards or outwards if you don't pay attention or if the boot is worn out. The problem also happens if the skate is not your size or if you pass the aforementioned weight limit (the skate just cannot take it). With a hard boot skate this will not happen but you can also rock your ankles in and out if you don't pay attention. This means not everything depends on the skate, it actually depends a lot on your focus. First, I would make sure your skates are your size, adjust them properly with laces and straps (they need to feel as they were part of you). Then you need to practice some exercises that Asha has in her KZread channel, about pronation. Learn more about pronation in this video kzread.info/dash/bejne/rIh_tcquipqpmJc.html Keep your feet close together, don't try long strides. Long strides are for intermediate level and up. You will go better if you stay as a block, keeping knees bent. Short strides will leave less room for pronation. You can see that explained here kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZYqhpZZue6uwZto.html Later you will be ready for a stronger push but first you need to get rid of that pronation. Finally, I recommend that you take a look at Asha's online course for beginners here skatefresh.com/product/how-to-skate-beginner-level-full-course/

Definitely 👍👍👍. I find that having the skates at an angle greater than 90° causes a spin too.

Very true! I’d say 90 degrees is max for a T-stop but it can be anywhere between 45-90, as long as it’s light enough to slide.

With 5 wheel rockered frames, I find it always turns me on a T stop if I put my boot down flat, but it I angle it to the rear so the back 3 wheel are touching, I hyper much more power and it doesn’t spin me around

I've never worn a 5 wheeled frame so I can't comment but if you slide in a straight line then it's going to plan!

Well noticed! Do you see now how different your body is left and right and how that affects your skating? You are happy balancing on one leg and not very happy balancing on the other. This is normal with everyone BUT it's only the skaters who really work on this with progression exercises and specific drills (Toe Roll is just one of many), who become good skaters and learn multiple skills.

If you started writing with your other hand it would take some time to not feel very unfamiliar. Legs are less extreme but we must focus on doing more drills and specific movements with our weaker leg if we want to even things out. The benefits are huge though and it’s really worth while.
