Tutorial - How to fix your PS3 Slim shutting down automatically after few minutes of use.
Ойындар
This video tutorial aims to guide a possible solution to a PS3 Slim that is shutting down automatically after a few minutes of use, even if it is not presenting problems of overheating (And the red light that indicates Stand By Mode turns off too). Consists of adjusting 2 trimpots (trimmer potentiometer) that protect the Power Supply (model APS-250) inside the PS3 Slim, the trimpots OCP (Over Current Protection) and PFC (Power Factor Correction). It is noteworthy that these adjustments alter protection components of the system, thus making these adjustments at your own risk, because I am not responsible for any damages due these adjustments.

Brilliant, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!! Worked a treat. My PS3 Slim kept shutting down completely after only being switched on 3 or 4 minutes, with no lights on whatsoever, but with these slight tweaks to the two trimpots it works like new again, even after hours of use. You are a genius!!!
GREAT!.... Through your very good advice, I´ve got back my PS3!!!! THANK YOUUU
Wow. I have to say this video helped me a ton. Fixed my PS3 Slim as advertised. And was very easy to follow without understanding what I think is Portuguese! 😎

Thank you so much for this video! This was my exact problem and I was amazed that the fix was so simple.
really works. the lineup marks on the screws are not in the same spot on all ps3s, mine were not int the same spot as yours, and i just turned them 10 degrees counter clockwise and it worked like magic. Thank you soooo much
My ps3 slim 120 gb had the same problem. I´ve done what you says in your video and for the moment it works! Thak you from Mallorca (Spain). Great tutorial, only i missed the part how to open de the PSU´s plastic cover was more detailled, the rest of the video tutorial is excellent! Congratulations!
This method works very well for me ! My PS3 has a APS 250 power unit. I tried to fix the components just like in the video, now I am playing FF13 for 30 minutes, no problem observed ! Thanks a lot ! :D
Thanks a lot for you video. In fact the most difficult thing is to find the torx 8, after that with your explanation it is so easy. Just be carefull to power supply snap, they are fragile.
Worked perfect!! Had to go back and adjust the screws slightly but it worked after a little trial and error :-) Thanks a million!!!!!!
Overcurrent protection devices are used to protect conductors from excessive current flow. These protective devices are designed to keep the flow of current in a circuit at a safe level to prevent the circuit conductors from overheating.
Great tutorial!! My APS 250 power pack is now working again!! Do you have information on the EADP-200 A power pack also? Need to fix also!! Thank you!!
Excellent took 15 mins to fix and so far so good.!!!!
By the gods! This actually works! I was about to send it in for a fix and I was already looking for a new ps3 in case it wasn't fixed. Thank you so much!!!
Thank you very much! After 1,5 year I finally can play again.
Thanks for the great video, Lucas! I have a CECH-2001A slim, which is the first slim to come out. I was hoping you could answer a few questions: (1) Is rotating the screws just a temporary fix? (2) Can rotating the capacitors damage my system/is it dangerous? (3) If it's temporary, I think I'll just replace the power supply entirely. Should I get EADP-220B or APS-250? The EADP sounds better (newer?) (4) Will the EADP-220B fit on my system? Thanks in advance!
Just done it with an aps-306 power supply on a 160gb slim and confirm it works. Excellent, easy to follow vid thanks
Thanks for your video instructions, they worked perfectly for me. Sony Australia wanted $250 (US$270) for this simple fix!
Worked like a charm, thanks! Now I can play Journey! (also, the industrial design of the ps3 is amazing!)
THANK YOU SO MUCH THOUGHT I WAS SCREWED IN THE A. THIS WAS REALLY GREAT THANKS FOR YOUR TIME IN POSTING THIS VIDEO.
@89RChris Ok man! I'm happy for being able to help you! See ya!
Capacitive Power Factor correction (PFC) is applied to electric circuits as a means of minimising the inductive component of the current and thereby reducing the losses in the supply. The introduction of Power Factor Correction capacitors is a widely recognised method of reducing an electrical load, thus minimising wasted energy and hence improving the efficiency of a plant and reducing the electricity bill. most supply companies are happy with a PF of 0.95 to 0.98
I buy a power supply and i still have the same problems as before, with the new power supply installed the PS3 turns on and then back off, Plz help
Oh man, thanks so much for this video. My ps3 seems to be going good now.
Definitely works! I figured what the hell I've got no warranty, and don't want to take it in. Thanks Lucas for posting this!
Did this the other day, so far so good..Thanks...
Thank you Sir! So far ten minutes and Running!! It appears that its fixed.
Tnx! Almost bought a new ps3, and now it works like i already have a new one!
@ybxa Ok, man! Happy for being able to help you! See ya!
I tried this in a friend PS3 slim and it has been working great, it doesn't turn off, thanks for the video, was really easy to do.
Thanks bro, may God reward you fr sharing the knowledge 🙏🙏
Yes ! Exactly like my situation. And this tutorial work like charm !
I did this some minutes ago and managed to fix the PS3. Thanks Lucas for such a valuable information. Lets see how much time it will last ;)
I just did this to my PS3 and it is working great. Thank you very much
Thanks for the quick response. If you are short on cash and can't afford to get a new power supply this fix will work for a few months maybe even a year. Mine lasted for 7 months! But I would suggest getting a new power supply as soon as you can everyone. Thanks again.
Thanks a lot for that - How to ... - Video. It worked perfectly fine for me. Thanks a lot.
@shika15cals Correct. It reduces the electrical resistance, allowing a bigger current to feed the mainboard...
After months of doubt I finally did it and... IT WORKS!! Thank you so much! I can now play again! I've been playing for about 5 hours and I even upgraded the firmware to 3.4 today. Thank you very much again! Sin funciona amigos! Se los aseguro! Greetings from Costa Rica!
THANK YOU!! This video saved me MONEY! No one was getting it when I kept telling them my problem, they kept saying it was over heating but it wasn't! And this Video saved my PS3 (however if you are still under warranty, USE IT! I wasn't but this fix worked for me!)
great tutorial man thanks, it really works everyone just follow all the instructions and you should be good
Thanks a lot. Helpful and good tutorial!
my man! you deserve a reward!!! that did the trick for me :) i guess they didn't test the protection circuity in hotter countries. sony is not what it used to be. 20 years ago somebody would get fired for this.
Lucas, Obrigado. Funcionou pefeitamente. Nico- Manaus
I have tried this solution, it has been 2 days and my ps3 works great. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
@HeyChiliBeam I'm happy for you! See ya!
I have two Ps3 slim with the same problem but both have the EAP-xxx series of PSu, should I try replacing the PSU?
still couldn't beieve it but somehow it actually work!! thx mate!!
I have a power supply without the screws and am having this problem, should i just replace the power supply?
@BelisamaAmbrosia Ok! I'm happy for you! Thank's for your feedback! See ya!
Yeah so I have the model that you can't turn so what do I do from here?
Hi, I have an EADP-220BB, is it possible to replace with an APS-270?? I read those are compatible even though not recommended, but seems to be the only option I'm able to find since I have one I can buy nearby but want to confirm if you know if they are really compatible and what issues it may cause. Thanks
It actually worked ! Thank you so much man ! :D
I had APS-250 and I can confirm my problem was fixed with these adjustments.
I adjusted the two trimmer potentiometers more than needed. Now I don´t know the original position. What should I do?
this is the VIDEO that ive been waiting for thank you lucascdamazio :) because when i play my ps3 it keeps on shutting down atomatically :( well thank you very much but i dont have a t8h screw driver i might borrow 1 thank you for the video!! :) god bless!!
Thanks man, this worked for my PS3 Slim 120Gb :) Cheers
how do you open the psu cover on a ps3 slim cech 3001a? It doesn't seem to have any clips around the cover. Please help.
The tutorial worked like a magic, with thanks.
@ozamalloa You're adjusting the value of the electric power that feeds the mainboard and reducing a little bit the mainboard's protection for overcurrent.
My PS3 Slim now has the YLOD. It was reasonably ventilated and wasn't played for more than a few hours a week maximum on average. It is nearly 2 years old. Who here has had success using the method shown in the video? How long has the console lasted for you since the fix? Do you think this method might harm the console (e.g. over the long run)? Also, would you recommend using this method over the soldering method mentioned in other videos, which doesn't seem to last too long as a fix? Thanks.
I tried this method and its working like new. Used to I could play a movie or game for 10 minutes then it shut down. I tried this method and turned on Call Of Duty Black Ops, played campaign for an hour, still working, paused it and went to town for groceries and was gone for an hour or so. Got home and it was still on and on the pause menu. No signs of heating up and sounded normal. Proceeded to play for another and still worked. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!
Thank you lucas, a friend showed me this page and I did it and I just played with my ps3 slim and worked like a charm thank you thank you :D I just hope this is a permanent solution instead of temporary
You are my HERO !!!! Finally I can play for hours again !!! :D

This simple trick worked for me!!! ( FW 4.30 PS3 Slim CECH-2004A )
@DrDenisSaralho Boa pergunta, amigão... Ele está esquentendo mais que de costume, pq normalmente ele esquenta razoavelmente? Sobre a modificação, não tenho conhecimento... Abração!
Bro just fixed my ps3 thanks to you 🙏🏽
Great video helped me to fix my PS3 have been running already 4h straight without problems. Notice to everyone this fix will probably work 100% sure if you really have this problem with your first-generation PS3 slim that have AP-250 PSU unit inside it. If your PS3 is having YLOD or any other problem this definitely WON'T fix that problem.
I know the values you need, its 3.3 for PFC +B and 80 for OCP. I used the Fluke 115 multi-meter to make these measurements in Ohms

where exactly do you attach the multimeter sticks on the ps3 to make the calibration??

I know this comment is 7 years ago but I hope you can reply. Where specifically did you attached the probes to measure the ohms?
It did the trick for my ps3! Thank you very much!!
Ill give this a try and comment back in a few days! thanks!
Gracias Lucas, ayer hice lo que indicas y ya funciona, un saludo desde España
Thanks for the info! I really appreciate it.
Thanks this actually worked. I thought that my system was over heating, cleaned it out removing all the dust and lint, but the prob still was there, after looking at this and following the instructions the system is now A.O.K. strange that a company large as sony would not know about this defect
Hi, the capacitor has been need lined(same sense) with de blue line? Thanks
just did this awhile ago and it really works, no more shutdown but i need to stress test it more. ^_^
@k0nr This problem is not YLOD, there is no Yellow light or sound alarm, it's like if you had the power cable unplugged. This fix is just a adjustment of the trimpots. Mine is functioning until now, almost 2 years ago since I made this fix. Just do this if you have no more Warranty and can't exchange your PS3. See ya!
very good info. mines worked, your a good man, thanks.....
@FrankFndez Hi! I'm happy that you could fix your PS3 Slim! Enjoy it!
Lucas thank you so much! ihave a same shutting down automatically prooblem with my PS3 Slim 120GB CECH-2004A. and i gona do it like you showing on your video, hope for good! god bless you!
Obrigado! Saludos desde Guatemala, It worked perfectly!
This fix has worked for me and my ps3 slim still works to this day.....just follow the instructions carefully and you shouldnt have a problem. I dont speak spanish either or portugese but i was still able to follow it. Get your tools ready first then go on with the video and follow step by step. I hope this help everyone also. One thing i did also is i put my ps3 on a fan stand so it helps the console to stay cool!
What PSU is compatible with a CECH-2002a? Could I use a APS-306?
Hey have you found a fix to that? Mine does that to but with out the 3 ti ti ti
thanks from Germany ! Great it Works to 100%
Thank you sooo mhuch this helped me a lot and it saved me from replacing any part i am really happy thank you so much
i have a eadp-185ap model... i dont know what to do because it didn't have the screws
I was having the same problem and I did fix it yesterday following your tutorial!!!! Thanks a lot man!!! But I would like to know what exactly happened? before was working OK and then it started turning off automatically. Does someone has the exact explanation of what happened and what are we exactly doing by moving does things in the power supply?
Fiz isto hoje com a minha PS3 e funciona muito bem... Obrigado I did this to my PS3 and it works just fine... Thank You
saved my ps3.. good job lucas.. i wonder how you guys find out such tweaks..
Hi Lucas, just wanted to share my thanks for you posting this video. It solved the issue just fine and your comments below have been very useful. Unfortunately, I used this as a fix a couple of months ago and now I have the same issue as intelligentguy2 where the problem starts again and the ps3 cuts out randomly. Hopefully though these cases are few and far between. I dont know whether to adjust the trimpots again or just buy another PSU, in which case should I buy the EADP-220BB?

was about to suggest buying another psu then i saw this comment was 12 years ago lmao
@PuchItAsshole Yes,you must replace the big capacitor. Some practice in soldering is needed.
Those screws you are turning are not capacitors. They are potentiometers used to adjust the resistance, thus changing the voltage properties.
mann !! your my savior great video everyone try it its working , thanks bro
a minha é a de cima. modelo EADP-220BP, como que ajusta? vc só falou da de baixo.
yeah mate. It still works perfectly fine for me. I was very sceptical towards this at the beginning but my ps3 is still running for hours :D
You saved my day dude!!
CECH-2002A Fixed! THANKS HEAPS!
Hi. I am having trouble taking the EADP-2200BB power supply. I've unscrewed the single screw, but can't seem to get the two plastic halves apart. Is there a trick to this? I couldn't tell from your video how you did it. Are there tabs or something I am missing you need to press in? I can't seem to locate them if there are. Any help would be great. Thanks!
lucasss damazio como lo averiguaste podrias contarlo? trabajabas para sony? como supiste? gracias
@TheBoggyMarsh Ok man! I'm happy for you! See ya!
