Turning a Harley Davidson Sportster into a Dirtbike!! - Part 2 (installing the slimsfab oil tank)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today I install start the tail section of the motorcycle using a lowbrow tsunami fender and a SlimsFab oil tank. A super east install that changes the whole look of the bike. I do not have everything to finish so I show off a 82 sportster I already installed this unit to give you guys an idea of what goes into it for those interested in running his product.

Its a great idea to junk all the heavy stuff and standard shocks. Good engines too with torque. Well done.

If you don't want a starter relay, switch cluster or wiring fault to halt your ride I strongly suggest installing a pushbutton starter solenoid end cover. Cheap is fine (I put dielectric grease on their seals to keep out moisture and reduce wear). I install pushbutton end covers on all my HDs with those Denso OSGR Light Duty starters. I inspect and usually replace the solenoid contacts (easy task and the kits dirt cheap online, get the style with all the seals and both types of copper contacts as it's only like 25 bucks). I hit the stud threads with dielectric grease to exclude moisture and prevent seizure. Any time I pull a prrimary cover I inspect the contacts because the starter bolts install from the left inside.

I have one of those covers for most of my bikes, it’s a cheap backup plan if anything goes wrong but with the exhaust routing it may be a weird position with what I planned on running. Definitely a cheap backup everyone should have in my opinion!

The first step is coming across a cheap project to sit in the corner of a garage till you finally get tired of it being in your way. Thank you for the support much more coming soon.

Clean tank, I was wondering what battery would even fit there. Also running the wires through the frame looks so much cleaner than stock. Good work!

Nice approach to build, practical, not OTT, just enough quality

I’ve been building it practically. Not everyone can put 10,000 into a 20+ years old sportster. The hardest part is finding the parts for just the right price without breaking the bank or cheating out using cheap parts

I'm eager to see where this project goes. I have a really nice 1200C but there seems to be a lot of very affordable sportsters on the market so why not save up and buy another one for a project like this.

I’m working on that bike now will post a video more in depth of the ironhead soon. It’s a custom stainless exhaust made by my brothers shop @Yardratzfab (on instagram) using cone engineering material.

So far it’s a 96 sportster with slims fab oil tank, lowbrow rear fender, tc bros seat, kx250 front suspension with husky tr650 trees. More coming such as a 2-1 rear sets, 16.5 rear shocks. And much more to come and some things I missed. I will be keeping up with installations of videos just currently waiting on suspension to resume the build and will have an overview once the bike is complete.
