In this video I show you how to make cold process soap with a common ingredient that makes the lather rich, creamy and luxurious.
Thank you for watching! Please wear proper safety equipment when making soap.
Rich and creamy handmade soap recipe:
Recipe calculated with: soapee.com/calculator
Oils:
240 g olive oil (40%)
30 g castor oil (5%)
30 g avocado oil (5%)
174 g coconut oil (29%)
126 g shea butter (21%)
Lye solution:
138 g distilled water
10 g citric acid
89 g sodium hydroxide (83 g if not using citric acid)
(38% lye concentration, 6% superfat)
Additives:
2 egg yolks
10 ml essential oils
3 tsp yellow illite clay
Cure the soap for 4-6 weeks before using it on your skin.
○ Citric acid information
When citric acid and sodium hydroxide lye (NaOH) are combined, sodium citrate is created. Sodium citrate works as a chelator in soap.
A chelator traps metal ions such as calcium and magnesium that can be found in tap water.
These metal contaminants can cause rancidity and soap scum in handmade soap.
A chelator binds to these metals so that they can’t bind to the soap molecules. This way the soap won’t react with them and the soap's lather improves + shelf life increases.
Citric acid does not lower the pH of soap. Instead it consumes some of the lye and increases the superfat. Add 6 g extra lye for every 10 g of citric acid added to a soap recipe if you want to keep the superfat % at the same level.
How much citric acid should be added to soap?
Usage rate in bar soap is 1-2% of the oil weight.
How to use citric acid
Add citric acid to the distilled water and dissolve completely before adding the lye, or make a separate solution of citric acid and distilled water and add to the oils.

If you have enough SF, it would be a conditioning type soap. And it increases lather. But tbh I wouldn’t use any kind of clay. It’s counterproductive to use clay and emollient ingredient like egg yolks.

@Welcome's House I’ve been making soaps for over twenty years…we don’t like to overuse clay as it IS a very drying ingredient. I’ve made hundreds of egg yolk soaps. Our eggs are orange and if you gel the color would pop of its own. No clay is ever required. And we use eggs for emollient properties. Using such dehydrating ingredient cancels out each other hence I said counterproductive. No point to use moisturizing ingredient then use such drying ingredients like clay. Clay in alkaline environment the drying power is farther enhanced. So people who understand this don’t use clay in soaps. And tbh using clay to anchor scents don’t work. You need to be blending properly for EOs to stay in CP soaps. Honestly clay is overused in the West in soap making.

I've used 4-5-6 oils. And used 2 oils. My 2 oils are richer lather than many oils. For me. Less is more. Olive and alvovado or olive and coconut. Perfect. Fumes are very dangerous in lye. But I add lye in all at once.

I added honey to my soap once. Organic honey, actually. From a hobby beekeeper I happened to know. The vegans acted like I was standing there over a dead animal bathing in a pool of blood with a big butcher knife in my hands.

Just a little tidbit of information that I had found out recently that if you're suffering from high cholesterol and don't know why you could very well be due to the high fats and lotions that we use that goes directly into our skin. I found a friend of mine had stopped using lotions and soaps and got her cholesterol down naturally
