Turn ON Garmin Dash Cam AUDIO Recording!

I made a major U-Turn since my last video on the Garmin 67W Dash Cam I published a short while ago.
I always use to have the audio recording on my Garmin 67W dash cam turned OFF. After some incredible discussions in the comments following that video I changed my mind - this video explains why.
...and here's the video that started it: • Do not buy the Garmin ...

What a great video and awesome discussion. The smaller memory card is brilliant idea, I will definitely change mine. Now I wish that the camera can wipe itself whenever turned off, of course if something happens during your trip it will mark the footage with its G sensor or you can simply push the button to keep that segment safe.

You can format the SD card right from the Garmin app. You can also give your Garmin 67w a voice command to turn the audio off. It works great on my 66w.

The voice command works well but it requires me to remember to turn on / turn off the audio when needed. With the smaller memory card I am comfortable that the risk of conversations being in someone else’s hands is minimal.

Especially the garmin cams have the option to delete everything instantly you do not actively want it to save, or accident footage. That way they are legal to use even in germany. So, if privacy is your concern, just set it up that way. Btw it's great how you interact with your viewers, keep that up!

I tried to understand the regulations in Germany, they seem to be the strictest within the EU, is that right? Thanks for your feedback, I really enjoy some of the discussions taking place on these videos!

@@ThisIsJulianC you're absolutely right. Not setting my garmin to 'instant overwrite' could lead to legal troubles... we really have to think about what we're recording.

The obd constant power can keep the dash continuously recording for 10 mins, 24hrs or so on as long as the Car battery isn't dropping below 12 voltage power.

I don’t have my audio on because I like to sing in my car lol! If I get pulled over, obviously I’ve done something wrong or have a light out, etc.

If you use the parking cable, won't it keep recording for a while when you turn off the car?

Parking Guard mode is set using the Garmin Drive app. You can set it to stay on for a fixed period of time after the engine is shut off. This relies on the dash cam having constant power that does not stop when the engine is turned off. The Parking Guard Cable, and the OBD II constant power cable from Garmin, allow the dash cam to stay powered after the engine is shut off.

Mini 2 has no gps, thats a big flaw, other than that its one of best recorders out there for its size and quality

The lack of GPS on the Mini 2 is an intentional marketing tactic to upsell consumers to the more expensive GPS dash-cams in Garmin’s range. I agree the Mini 2 is one of the best out there, if there was ever a Mini 3 that included GPS it would likely outsell all of the other budget dash cams combined.

I used a mini 2 for about a year. Recently I bought a 67w and replaced the Mini 2. Then I moved the mini 2 to the rear. Makes a great rear camera. I bought a Vantrue E1 for my other car. I'm looking for a rear camera to go with that one and I might add another Mini2. Otherwise another E1 or E1 lite. I just wanted to try something else. I like them both but my next camera will be another garmin.

GPS can be used against you if you turned off. The mini 2 has no such thing.

What conversation ls are you having that cant get out here? All my conversations are about my day or calling someone an idiot. I couldn't care less if some random person stole the conversation. I would be much more upset that my memory card was gone than my conversation being listened to. Also, dont turn your car all the way off. Just the engine and power stays on for the dashcam.

Some folks (and some laws depending on location) are very sensitive to the recording of conversations.
