I lived on Grand Turk island for a year in 1975-76 while in the Navy. There was a US Navy base there to track submarines. Fell in love with the crystal clear water. It's like diving in a aquarium. I highly recommend the islands. I suggest Providenciales over Grand Turk, although cruise lines do visit Grand Turk now. Turks and Caicos island are most worthy of a visit.

Turks is a reference to the indigenous Turk's head cactus and Caicos is from the Lucayan term "caya hico" meaning string of islands.

Because of cactus growing there, it looks like the turkish headcape "fes" , the brits named it after
