Turkish Army M60A3 Tanks with Roketsan New Armoured Turret

Roketsan’s modular armoured turret MZK developed for M60A3 tanks started serving the Turkish Armed Forces. Roketsan has presented its modular tank turret on its social media account, saying it is now in service with the Turkish Army. The modernisation is part of the TİYK-M60A3 modernisation project. TİYK means Additional Capacity Gaining for Tanks, its Turkish meaning is Tanklara İlave Yetenek Kazandırma.

if you have thousands of them, its not that easy to buy 2000 new tanks. turkiye will produce around 300 altay mbt's but the m60 will stay in service for longer time. even m48 are in service, mainly as stationar army base protection against pkk. why not. they do not face other tanks, only pkk fighters.

A new turret, a lighter one, certainly couldn't hurt. The performance of the M60 was always a little less sprightly than the M48 because of the weight of new turret. And, the new turret has a much lower profile. If gun depression wasn't sacrificed, then that's a plus as well. This seems like a more comprehensive approach to keeping an M60 fleet viable than Israel's Sabra program. My only concern is that, as shown, the hulls armor hasn't been upgraded. A lot of the weight saved in the turret has to go there.

Wow, I guess you've never crewed a tank have you? Every tank gives off heat. When you are moving 40 to 70 tons around, your engine is going to get a bit warm. The M60's engine gives off no more heat that the LEO's or a T-72. And and before you ask, I've seen both through TTS, so I know. Please don't confuse War Thunder with real life, trooper.

  • @brianfoley4328

@@Waltham1892 I guess you know next to nothing about tanks and how to attack them. The M-60 tank was a relatively good tank but like all tanks it had particular weaknesses. One of the stand out weaknesses was it's heat signature...it was a very "hot" tank compared to others. The dual exhausts mounted right up on top of the rear deck literally glowed, especially at night. Many other tanks place their exhausts lower on the rear or at the sides where the heat signature is less visible to IR sensors. Tankers have to "warm up their vehicles", primarily to test their systems, recharge batteries, etc....well you could pick out M-60's even in hull down positions from a distance using IR scopes. It was one of the main criticisms of the tank.

With the 105mm gun it has a 18 rounds bustle autoloader, while with the 125mm gun it uses the carossel 22 rounds autoloader. In addition it's interesting that they didn't try to use the 120mm gun, which is the newer NATO standard

I would see M60's & M48's with 5hrs run time and 15/20 miles on them. By the time we was done with them they where 2x2 chunks of scrap metals and loaded into open top train box cars for melting. I can tell you that once the turret was removed from the M60 the suspension would raise up 4 foot and they would do every bit of 65mph and feel like you was floating across the earth.

It appears to have a LeClerc style bustle autoloader. So the rounds are lined up like matches in a matchbox. L7 105mm cartridge cases are larger in diameter at the base than 2A46 125mm propellant cases, which are about the same diameter as the projectile. This would account for the difference in round count.

Naw looks like it's mad small inside as I was a driver/ loader for the original M6A3(19f in the USA army) . The original weighted @ 57 tons Without track skirts. Looks more like the turret on the Abrahams. What pissed me off is the USA has in storage over 1,250 which couldn't been send to Ukraine. 😊
