    what's the difference between C, J and Y? sounds very similar (for me as an spanish speaker) I think the difference is kind of similar like our Y and LL (in some dialects of spanish), but in case of that 3 letters, I can't exactly appreciate the difference.

  • @LearnTurkishwithMuki

    @LearnTurkishwithMuki

    Great question! I can see how as a Spanish and an English speaker you might be confused about these sounds/letters. Let me try and explain this in two steps. Step 1- Think of 'c' as 'g' as in the word 'general' in Standard American English. Think of 'j' as in '-ge' as in the word 'garage' as in Standard British English or the last sound in the French pronunciation of the word 'garage'. Finally, think of 'y' as similar to the Spanish 'll' as in 'tortilla' or as in the word 'you' in Standard American English. Step 2- Keep in mind that these sounds are pronounced the same way no matter where they exist in a word and also there are no silent letters in Turkish, so you pronounce them every time they appear in a word. Lastly, when these letters or any letters are next to each other, they do not form a unique third sound. Read every letter you see, write every sound you speak. Does this explanation make sense?

    The pronunciation of soft g is nothing like this. Let me give you some examples: The word dağ which means mountain is pronounced as da with a long a sound. The word ağaç is pronounced as aach but the first a is long and you slightly pause between the as. The word sağ which means both right (as a direction) and alive is pronounced as sa with again a long a. Hope this helps you understand the pronunciation of the soft g. P. S. In some areas in Turkey people pronounce the soft g differently but the examples I gave you are correct if you want to speak the modern İstanbul Turkish.

    Don't stress it when you pronounce it. If it comes after a vowel, extend the pronunciation of that vowel to sound more like a native Turkish speaker. Pronunciations of ( c ç j ) very difficult they're almost identical

  • @zehrazehra

    @zehrazehra

    3 жыл бұрын

    you can pronounce c as in "g-mail" in English, ç as in "cheese" and j as in "vision". So if you try to pronounce "cheese" with C sound instead of Ç, you would probably say "jeez". similarly, if you try to pronounce "vision" with Ç sound instead of J, you would say something like "vichan"

    Turkish is easy language for us Muslims from Indian subcontinent as we can understand what ğ is for , lot of Turkish words are derived from Arabic which of course we learn to read Quran.
