Why is it controversial? When it comes to your countries; the nuclear power plants are not controversial, the coal burning power plants (Germany have started to use them again) are not controversial but when the issue is our prosperity and development it becomes controversial! You hypocrites! The world has awaken and knows who you are. We saw your sincerity and level of caring about even human life in Gaza. No more deceptions, no more lies! GW is a unit of power, which means it is generated this second. GWh is a unit of energy, which is power generated over time. A generator is rated in GW (or rather MW which is a thousand times less than a GW) as that is it's max continuous power output. While power production has a lot of other factors that the generator does not care about such as rainfall, magazine size, maintenance, power prices, grid services, competing power plants, etc.. So if you are talking about how much production a power plant has you are talking about energy, GWh, these are two different units of measurement. In this video you say it produces 3,8 GW annually which I assume you mean GWh, however 3,8 GWh is nothing in power production terms, it's less than 20 year old single wind turbines produce. So again, I assume you mean 3,8 TWh, which is a thousand times more, and sounds a bit more realistic for a project like that.

Building a large dam is always controversial - but there are factors that are not mentioned here. This will create tourism, fishing, bating vacationing opportunities and the list could be somewhat limitless. Of course people want modern lives with heat and air conditioning. Electric stoves and factories for more mineral extractions in the area that can be processed. Controlled water out lets could actually help down stream countries as well. Water is an important resourse in this area of the world. Wise use is really good.

An insightful and balanced exploration of the Ilisu Dam project! This video does an excellent job of presenting both the economic benefits and the complex controversies surrounding the dam. It's a stark reminder of the challenging decisions in large-scale infrastructure projects, where advancements and progress often come with significant cultural and environmental trade-offs. The story of the Ilisu Dam is a crucial case study for anyone interested in sustainable development and the intricate dynamics of modern engineering projects.

Opinions are subjective. Do you have proof? Do you know another similar project coasting less than that price? With or without a Dam, flooding is something all river side areas have to deal with. I think the benefits of have controlled water, farming around, electricity, saved hard currency, and developing the local economy outweigh not building the dam. Hard Iraq made deal with Turkey to sell cheap oil and Gas might have sweeten the option of not building it. But with Iraq in shambles since US occupation, that was not a possible deal or a concern to those ruling Iraq.

Iraq has no right to speak up against the dam, no Iraqi government made any effort to utilize Tigres, apart from a dam north of Mosul, they don't care. Syria has only a tiny corner of a high ground overlooking Tigres and by using pumps they benefit from its water. The local population generally are in favour, the PKK does not represent Kurds and other ethnic groups in the area, as they have ''communist, racist, hardcore leftist'' ideas that don't go with peoples traditions and interests, all those who opposed the dam were ill intended, may be enemies of Türkiye or getting donations from states in conflict with Türkiye. Old Hasakeyf has been replaced by a new well designed township, so are the other communities

Iranian Here, Turkey built several dams in recent years which quickly became problematic for it's neighboring countries, because rivers that turkey built dams on it, historically for thousands of years flows into Iraq,Syria and Iran. Not only those dams stopped water to go to those countries but also turkey relocated smaller rivers and other water ways by changing their routes so they don't flow to other countries and stay inside turkey, base on international laws this is not allowed but they did it anyways. Iraq threatened turky to bombs some of those dams cause Iraq facing unprecedented water crises due to this dams and other water way relocater projects, you can easily find videos and footage that turkey put anti missile and other defensive weapons near those dams. They really making lives hell for us, almost all of our rivers died in recent years and whenever someone post about it on social media turkish bots attack pages and channels.

So unless you oil and natural gas rich Iranians and Iraqis are ready to share your "natural resources" with us we will be using OUR "natural resources" like our rivers aka water as we like... If you need more water maybe your governments should try trading it for oil and gas, how about that ?

Also Iraqi politicians can have tantrums as they want they are absolutely never going to pick a fight with us... Not only that Iraq isn't even on the same league with us when it comes to military without even mentioning the industrial capabilities, but Turkey also is a NATO member since 1952. Turkey's concerns were actually Syria as it become an another middle-eastern failed state where the rag-tag militia's and terrorists were running around all of Turkish borders. Which does pose a threat to Turkish national security. Even though the damage they can do is VERY limited.
