Turbo Lag - Navara D40 YD25 - BCV/Trubo Solenoid Replacement & Alibaba Silicone Cold Intake Pipe

In this episode I'm installing a new boost control solenoid (or BCV) on my Nissan Navara D40 to fix an issue with the turbo actuator dropping while boosting/spooling, causing some turbo lag. I also install a cold intake pipe that was made by a company from alibaba (Link Below).
I also show my new intercooler silicone hosing that was custom made by MK Performance Hose & My hard 'hot' pipe from forefront industries that all help with a better airflow to the engine & negate any boost swell in the stock rubber pipes.
This is all part of preparing my vehicle for overland expeditions in the future & in my mind, knowing how to maintain a vehicle is essential.
TOOLS NEEDED -
Hands
Small ratchet with socket for appropriate hose clamps
Coloured tape to mark vacuum hoses (if required)
Note : Make sure to remember where the vacuum lines are located on the solenoid before removing, marking these with different colours will help.
My lines were frail and did need replacing, I used 3mm silicone hosing - tinyurl.com/w4mpftf
Alibaba cold Intake Pipe - tinyurl.com/w2pav9y
Mk Performance Hose - www.mkperformancehose.co.uk/

6 months ago i had turbo failure...i thought I should change or repair it but in the end i figured out that the plastic pipes ending on that part the exactly same you change in this video was damaged and lose air so the vacuum didn't worked properly so the turbo didn't worked either..thanks for the video and the informations you shared

  • @PrimalNomad

    @PrimalNomad

Thank you! The bcv would pulsate under load as the solenoid would be working opening & close with the vaccum. I don't think this does happen fully unless the turbo is spooling though so might indicate why on idle there is less movement.

Generally this is a symptom of a bad solenoid (BCV) but I'm still to determine how much the actuator should move with idle. The engine utilises the turbo to move exhaust gasses via the actuator. How still if yours when the engine is off, it shouldn't have lots of play.

  • @PrimalNomad

It regulates the vacumn directed to the turbo and adjusts it according to revs for your boost, when it's playing up you may notice a significant change in turbo lag or acceleration.

I'm having a boost problem on my pathy. The boost pipe doesn't expand when squeezed and reved at the same time. When you say the actuator is that the rod underneath the waste gate? • @PrimalNomad

Yeah the actuator is that, moves up and down on vacuum. Sounds like the bcv may be playing up, try giving it a clean with some contact cleaner or wd40 and a good blow out. Does there seem to be vacuum if you take of the lines and block the ends with your fingers?
