The suppressed revolver is a modified S & W .38 cal provided in 'tunnel rat kits', it was experimental and didn't work well, barely used in this setup. But it helps to show the use of revolvers and suppressors in one scene/ shot

This is because of a revolver's cylinder gap, allowing gas to escape out quickly, negating the use of a suppressor. One of the few revolvers capable of using a suppressor is the 1895 Nagant revolver, which mechanically pushes the cylinder into the forcing cone, keeping all off the gas moving down the barrel.

I’ve been into a still preserved part of these tunnels on a tour from HCMC. The video shows the ‘rats’ standing in a nice big tunnel, but they are tiny, even for a 5’6” guy. I’m 6’ and 185lb and in decent shape, but my legs had turned to jelly after crouch walking about 40m while hunched over. They’re quite intimidating to get into even when no one’s trying to kill you! This was almost a suicidal job and they could only affect a tiny portion of these tunnel systems. Hats off to these brave men, but they shouldn’t have been sent in there.

Blyn Mage Actually, compared to other cartridges 45acp is one of the more quite loads, especially when suppressed; due to its lower sub-sonic velocity. .. Sound level in pistols has to do with the velocity(don't find a lot of compensators on pistols so we'll avoid that road). Normal 115/124 grain 9mm ball ammo will actually have a louder crack due to being supersonic.. 357 mag will be louder than all of them and the bullet/projectile is smaller than a .45.. A shorter barrel will also make things louder. The slower the bullet the less loud it will be, especially when using subsonic loads and a suppressor.. -it's best to use subsonic loads for suppressing.

Most tunnels were empty, besides the traps, but even so it was always a scary job. Only time ive been thankful to be 5 foot 3, helped me crawl around.

Recently, a Vietnam bet told me a story of him as a tunnel rat during the war. He said that due to the confined space and the possibility of the loud concussion of a .45, tunnel workers utilized a .22 long rifle pistol to clear the tunnels. We got onto The subject when discussing the lethality of the .22lr cartridge.

My grandpa was a tunnel rat, he described it as terrifying. One story he told was that he was sent into a huge tunnel with over 30 people. He said he couldn’t do it, so he waited; took out a few, then left with a lot of of men left, he still fought and killed over 100 men, but some parts were so nerve racking he couldn’t do it. RIP Will miss you papaw!

A good friend of mine by the name of Terry Clark is a Vietnam war vet who served as a tunnel rat, he doesn't talk much about the war but he told me that when he came home he went to Canada and lived off the land for several years, finding and abandoned cabin, fixing it, and finding out who he's was and learning to live with what he had done. He is now in his 70's and has moved to Ohio where I met him, running a local flour mill and working with me and the Matt Light foundation (look it up😂😂). I got to know him much better this summer while dismantling old barns and I sense that he never fully got over what happened during his years as a tunnel rat.

My grandpa was a tunnel rats during Vietnam. He never liked to talk about it though. He even had many flashbacks until he died in 2015.

I used to know an old aboriginal sapper in the Australian army, cleared a lot of the cu chi tunnels, he told me about how he was on patrol and a bullet hit the M60 he was carrying, as well as an officer in his squad getting jumped by a tiger on patrol, amazing story teller and a gentleman .

I have a half brother who was a tunnel rat. Difiantly a short guy, my family is not tall people, I tend to be the tallest at around average height. Unfortunately the war and then the lost of a wife and baby after my brothers return to the states left him pretty broken for many decades. I have had only an occasional interaction with him, after he lost his wife and baby in mourning he became a drifter, so much so everyone calls him Boots. Recently he settled in a small Kentucky town. Me and a sister went to see him in the hospital there once, concern we would lose a chance to be with him, and so many locals had met him about the town and stopped by to see him. A traumatised mind and ,I think from mine and other people's experience, one of the kindest hearts.

My dad is 5’11. He is taller than both his parents. However, I was the shortest in class. My condition doesn’t allow me to get hungry. He told me to eat ALL THE TIME. It got to a point where my 6 yr old jaw physically couldn’t move for a day. He tried so many tactics in order to get me to finish my meals. One of them included: If you’re short, they’re gonna make you go into the tunnels. Those guys get trapped in there all the time with the Vietnamese. DO YOU WANNA BE TRAPPED WITH THEM? Now I finally understand what he was talking about

I decided to watch this video because I just got off of a week long sail ship trip with my Sea Scout crew and one of my bunkmates was inside a small storage area crawling around looking for something and he said something along the lines of: "I'm finally becoming the tunnel rat I was always meant to be" I had a basic understanding of what these guys were before watching this but this helped me learn more

I knew of a friend who was a “tunnel rat” during the Vietnam War. He told me his favorite weapon was the High Standard .22 caliber pistol because it was light, easy to use and it does not have a loud blast and blinding muzzle flash. He prefers the High Standard over the .45 caliber 1911 pistol, and the .38 caliber revolver.
