Rob Brown, since the first time you posted this, I’ve been using this method and teaching it to my students. It couldn’t get any easier!!! No tune bot, no Drum Dial, other fancy tuning methods etc, just push, turn, done!!! Love it!!!
I have an electronic kit. Imma sit this one out dawg.
I’ve been using this man’s tuning methods for years. Made my toms and bass drum especially sound better than ever.
Unbelievable. Ive been playing for 40 years and had my own complicated way of tuning. I tried this and in 5 minutes my toms sound better than ever. Boy do I feel dumb, haha! Thanks Rob!!!
I can attest that this does in fact work! Rob does a video that was actually an updated version prior to this video's release, and he goes more in depth especially with the tuning. There is also a bass drum tuning video and a snare tuning video. Thanks Rob for making no-nonsense style videos that are effective 👍
Why can't all tutorial stuff be this easy and helpful to follow. Love it ❤
Wow. That just blows my mind, lol I haven't had a set of drums in 15 years or more. Just picked up a used set and tried to get a sound that i like has taken several attempts over the past 3 or 4 days off and on. A friend suggested i look on KZread for tutorials, which led me here, and within minutes, I had an awesome sound using the Rob Browns method. Simply bliws my mind, lol Thank you, sir, for posting this. Even years ago when I played all the time in several different bands I never knew to tune drums like this. Although it didn't take me long back then and my ear was trained much better also. Anyway, thanks again. Really appreciate you 👍👍
Ya perdí la cuenta de cuántos años tengo tocando la batería y recién hace unos meses viendo tus videos es que aprendí como afinar la batería... Gracias 💯
I find this method even easier with clear toms as they reflect light and really show off the wrinkles better than a coated head.

Get a lamp close to the coated head and you'll see them better.
Hey Rob! Big fan of yours! Thanks for the vid, You’re one of the only KZread drummers that get Straight to the point with no BS, you Rock🤘
Rob you are a legend! I’ve been using this method since your first video tutorial. And now, I can’t help but re-tune rehearsal/house kits using this method wherever I go. Thanks!
Absolutely the best vid on tuning i've EVER seen: simple and quick: YES!! BD Brown, you are a gift to us all!! RnMT
I used that very method this weekend while I was setting up for a show it works great
Always good the basic and discipline steps indeed 🥁👍🏾
Been using your technique 2.5 years ago after watching your earlier vid on this. I started learning drums 2.5 years ago. It always sounds it's best too. Thanks mate. It's golden. 🍻✌️🇦🇺
Thanks Bro! Definitely makes sense! I've Been spending way too much time on other methods and "fine tuning" Appreciate ya!
Thanks to easy tunning drums, this is the best easy method and nice tone of drums, regards from Bulgaria 🇧🇬 :)
You can also use a small, not too heavy kettle bell and place it on the center of the head instead of pressing with your fist. This makes the pressure exerted on the head consistent, so you dont have to worry about pushing down with the same force the whole time you tune. I think you may have shown this technique in one of your previous videos but I dont remember...
Great video! I enjoy the way you explain things on your channel Rob 👍
Ya know Rob, I'm one of those old school equal tension dudes followed by the tap-tap-tap routine. I am gonna give this a shot though. It's just too easy not to try it. Really dig your content man. 👌
I've done this from your previous video. So easy and best time drums ever sounded. I like low pitch anyway. Keep up the great work.
We NEED another flow workout/sticking from you, last one worked wonders!
I love stage custom sound so much
Now, time for a bass tuning video like this one and the snare drum😁👍🏼

@@RobBeatdownBrown REAL TIME MAXIMUM THUMPIFICATION !
Picked up a 3 pc Pearl Forum set from a thrift store for $60. Tuned the old Evan’s G2 heads on them with Rob’s method. Wow, what a big difference. Can’t wait to rewrap them and put on fresh heads. Don’t be critical of used entry level kits. Can be a fun project.
Great tip. I recently used the snare tuning video and it worked perfectly, so there is no reason to think this won’t work on the toms.
just bought a new drum head and was dreading the tap tap tap at every lug drum tuning I was taught.... then I watched this video and 2 minutes later I was done.
Thank you so much
Thank you.
Thanks a million Rob. Can you please do a bass drum tuning video or do you already have one? Cant find it if so
Not just a great and informative video, but that background music is 🔥
It normally takes me longer just to find my drumdial that it did for you to tune both heads.
YOU DA BESS.....ROB
Lol, wow!! So much for the " back n tha day tap tap tap" around the edge. Thankz " Bruh bruh ".
Nice! And your should-be-patented "Beatdown" Maximum Thumpification tutorial took my 24" wimpysound kick and turned it into Kickzilla. Thank you for your great tutorials!
Awesome video! I have been playing a long time and only just recently saw this same tuning technique on a Nick D'Virgilio video. I can't wait to try this out! If both you AND Nick say this is the way to do it, who am I to disagree?!?
Definitely recommend newer drummers check this way of tuning out! Personally I have Remo pinstripe oil edges. This way of tuning makes them sound absolutely beautiful. I do a little editing after the tuning to get them exactly how I prefer(as should any drummer!) what I usually do is tighten the batter of my 10” a little tighter then shown in the video. For the reso, I go quarter and a half turn down. For my 12” I do almost exactly the same type of tuning, only difference is I go a little tighter on the top head, then top it off with half a moon gel (also! Moon gels can be reused over and over again, simply wash them with soap and water, dry, and good as new)

"Oil edges" ?? No oil anywhere in Pinstripes...has never been either. Oil is only found in Evans Hydralic heads.
Talk less and super informative?! Yeah man, your content is awesome and is much appreciated. 🙏 x1000
Ok I learned this method from your previous videos. I do like your videos better when you talk. Anyway, I am what you described as a “rocket scientist.” Obsessive with tuning. I even have several tension meters and other tuning devices. The method you describe puts the drums in a much lower range than what I used to tune to. But it’s awesome and has much more resonance and sustain. I think this is my go to tuning from now on. But I admit, I did tweak slightly after using your method. Haha I can’t help it!!! But you got me into an awesome sonic range which I didn’t believe could be achieved with 12, 14, & 16 inch toms
This dude makes it hilariously easy for the goons that complain that it's too hard. No excuses! Thank you Rob 😊

Tuning toms is so easy.
I use a 15lb kettle bell in the middle of the head. Keeps constant weight while I find the right light. Unlike my hand and tempo does not fluctuate... 😂
I’ve been doing this method since the first time he showed this years ago. It’s consistent and is amazing as tuning is one of my least skilled aspects of drumming. Even as a professional.
"Do not overthink this!!" - Easier said than done.😄😂
🤣🤣🤣 Love the video !!! I imagine you making this video as if you were explaining it to a kid 😅
Hey @Rob Brown thanks for posting these great videos they have helped me a lot since I watched them many years ago,However; ultimately I´m experimenting with white coated heads and is very difficult for me to see wrinkles in those heads any advice for this problem?
What are your recommendations for concert toms?
Rob, I'm new to the channel and I will tell you I love it!!!! I'm a upper moderate drummer who finds even your beginner lessons very useful. Love your teaching style......you get to the point and explain everything well. I'm really glad you don't use a bunch of spasmatic b.s. like most of these drummers do on you-tube. Keep up the good work Rob!
Some days when I’m tuning my drums with tools and gadgets but just can’t seem to get it right, I simply get frustrated and use this method. More often than not, it works. Lol
What snare are you using in the track that’s playing? It’s slammin’! Also, I’m getting tons of compliments on my ‘Groove Responsibly’ T. Thanks Rob!!
Do not over think this!! I REPEAT, DO NOT OVER THINK THIS!!!
Hey Rob, I notice you use coated Reso Heads? I never tried that.. That nice Doooo, Dooooo sounds for all my Toms (3 racks and 2 floor) generally alludes me. Or requires much tweaking.
Will you be at NAMM this year ?!?
Nice Rob…. Stay tuned? Yep next up is Rob with the key!
What if the resonance side is mesh fabric??
So even turning of the key doesn’t matter for all rods?
12 or 13 inch
A little fine tuning with a felt mallet after doing this works great.
Ya know what works instead of hand pressure? "Borrowing" one your wife's 8-pound weights. (I think they're kettle balls or kettle bells or something like that.)
Love this magician style tom tuning vid, but hey! Where’s the 🐇
I have a difficult time seeing the wrinkles on coated heads. Any tips?

@@RobBeatdownBrownfloor tom the same way?
Love me sum “Stank Face”. 😡
🥳🇫🇮🤝🇨🇦💫
What?? Huh, I guess if you want to tune it higher you would do it the old tap tap listen but this is a much faster low tom sound that I really like.
This video is not necessarily correct. Tuning this way may get you one sound, but there are several different sounds a tom can make. You may want to tune your tom to sound differently. This calls for you to tune your tom in a different way. You also have to think about the resonance. You may want your tom to resonate a certain way. This means you have to tune the resonance head differently.
Tune a Tom in two minutes with Todd. Had to change your name for this one sorry.
What kind of sorcery is this?
This is a cheat lol you didnt include the finger tighten on the 2 min time 🤣🤣🤣 im just kidding but yeah this is the best way to tune a drum and been following your tips
