Nice review, but to clarify: the increased depth rating on the Pelagos / Sea Dweller is not because of the helium escape valve. That’s just an extra (useless but cool) feature for saturation divers. If anything, it actually makes waterproofing the watch more difficult since there’s an extra hole in the case

No recreational diver would ever need that extra feature, they (we) need to pass special tests and levels in their (our) acreditation to do saturation diving, not counting 99% of professional divers use wrist computers and not mechanical watches. It is like buying a car with wings and flaps knowing in advance that it never will leave or take off the ground. At least that helium valve is no protuding like in the Omegas.

Sooooo true computers do everything now , but divers should still have a dive plan (manual computation ) written on a dive slate just in case the computer fails . I still wear a dive watch in conjunction with my computer just in case. But having extra features in a watch (even if not needed) is a plus (more bang for buck).

Great video... I was considering the Sub and SMPc and I ended up choosing the Pelagos. Killer dive extension, fabulous lume & bezel and one on the most comfortable watches in the market... Not to mention the in-house movement exceeds the current Submariner movement until Rolex upgrades it.

Great video, the Pelagos is terrific. IMO, a more direct Tudor model that competes with the Rolex sub is the new BB58. That is sized and looks more like the 1950’s Rolex subs. Tudor is on a real roll.

Thanks for the review. The Pelagos is a great watch and I will add it to my collection one day. The Pelagos has so much to offer but it is also a little bit plain on the dial imho. It would be great if it had a little bit of red on the dial, so that it pops a little bit more. Too bad the lefty colour scheme is only for the lefty. My upcoming purchase will be a Rolex Sub "no date" or the new Deepsea 2018 model, because I need a Rolex in my collection. The Tudor can wait allthough it is tempting to pull the trigger on a Pelagos (I have to save much longer for a Rolex and sometimes I ger impatient). ;-)

Anthony, My Brother, another great review. It’s funny, but it seems to me the Black Bay’s get more press. And those talking about them always mention the Pelagos. Correct me if I’m wrong, but the case is titanium as well as the bracelet. For myself, I love the look of the blue one and the blue strap that comes with it. I’ve always been a sucker for a blue dial. Anyway, a great, straightforward, honest review. Always keep them coming my friend!-Mark. P.S. Also thanks to Bernard Watch.

I've just sold my seiko Marinemaster sbdx017 and got a sbdc053 and it's great value and looks amazing on the steel bracelet if you can find it. I'm still lusting after a blue pelagos but worried it will feel like a 'Not quite Rolex' purchase. Rolex has our priced me but having owned several in the past I'm not sure how I'd feel about a Tudor... it makes sense to the head and pocket but we all know watches are heart buys if you're a watch geek. Same with the seamaster, it's a great watch but they're too common and not sure i wouldn't prefer my Seiko blu-mas

Hey man! I love your content. What do you think of the “new” Omega Diver 300m? I’m thinking about either getting the Diver 300m, or the Tudor Pelagos. I like the laser etched wave dial on the Diver 300, but I’m not sure how I feel about the oyster style bezel. I already have an omega planet ocean and that’s currently my only watch. I love omega, but I feel like I should give another brand a shot. Haha

Pelagos LHD on a grey Crafter Blue strap is sublime. I’ve also got a Sub and SM300. The Sub is a little dull, a little too ‘obvious’ if you will, while the SM300 in it’s post-2018 guise is a little too bling. The Pelagos is a beautiful tool watch, with just enough wrist presence and great performance.

The Sub felt great it has fantastic build quality and wrist presence but was a touch small for my 8 inch wide, flat wrist, the DS and SD looked better but felt slightly top heavy. I bought a 2009 Mazda MX5( Miata)with the cash I saved not buying the Sub. Open top summer road trips through Europe wearing the Pelagos. Easy Choice? Yep

If it can go deeper then it means the watch and its seals can handle much more pressure, thus sturdier(case wise) , movement is still questionable due to it being relatively new but the 70hour power reserve gives it another up over the sub. This is a better alternative to the sub . The sub uses precious metals on some parts and is worked on more (polished areas) thats why it is more expensive. On a technical aspect the Pelagos is a better watch over the sub IMHO ,it is less refined with its finish but its a true tool watch . I got a LHD which is a great everyday watch , and tend to wear it more over my other Rolexes.

Escape valve does not allow the watch to dive deeper it’s for divers who go into decompression chambers that breath helium whilst in there . Helium under pressure will get past the seals and when they decompress the watch with pop the glass out as it can’t escape fast enough . So the valve was added .

I'm still waiting for a real Submariner competitor from Tudor. Black Bay is nice, but to vintage for me. Pelagos is more modern, but I don't like titanium if it's just brushed. If there would be a Pelagos in steel, with polished sides on the case and bracelet, a polished ceramic bezel and steel hands and markers, with the same design from this titanium version... this would be a stunning watch. Still as functional as the titanium versions, but with a more elegant twist.

i bought mine with the profits after selling my sub, and what a stunning watch. i have the blue variant. i have to say that its better in every way than the sub. it keeps amazing time, mine is running at -1 sec per day. i have no concerns regarding quality as its produced by the rolex group that own tudor. you could call it the 'poor man's submariner', but i dont know many poor men that can afford a $5k watch, so maybe that label is ill fitting. in my view the pelagos beats the pants off everything, including sub's and gmt's. a more worthy opponent is the deep sea or sd43. when you consider the price jump, you are paying around 3x pelagos money for pretty much the same watch, im not sure what you are actually gaining by doing so. for me, i dont think i'll sell mine anytime soon as its the perfect watch, and i would say it can teach its bigger brother (rolex) a thing or two in how to make an impressive / benchmark quality dive watch. wear yours in good health sir. all the best.

nice video but too many inaccuracies and wrong comparisons, comparing the bracelet to an omega bracelet is incorrect. no technical terms like rehaut etc. if you compare these two models then you should proceed in more detail. I like the recordings quite well and the sound was clear.

The Pelagos is basically how Rolex would have done a successor to the Rolex Sea Dweller 16600, if they were still interested in making tool watches rather than luxury items.

Hi, I think the Tudor Pelagos range are great watches, however overpriced for what they deliver. I'm not comparing against the Sub, but other real value propositions like Oris' range of dive watches or Seiko's 62MAS reinterpretations like the SBDC051. Those are real bargains IMHO.

Great quality content as always. I’ll be honest was really into this watch from seeing it online. This and the blue model. Went to look in person was completely underwelmed. Since the entire watch is mat I found it looked quite cheap/average. Apparently these things are just scratch magnets too. The blue is also bright smurf blue which IMO was odd looking

The depth rating on these watches has nothing to do with the helium escape valve. Unless you are part of the 0.001% of buyers who do long term saturation diving, it will never be an issue. I also suspect that hardly anyone has ever broken a Submariner by diving too deep. Normal people do not exceed even 50m down, much less 300m. But for everyone else a more relevant issue is lugging around a much thicker less versatile watch every day safe in the knowledge it is theoretically rated to a deeper depth, even though it will never be used that way.

The left hand color combo is the best one too bad the crown is on the left ruins the whole watch for me lol. Tudor is like the Rolling Stones you cant always get what you want...but well give you a concoction of stuff on each black bay but not exactly what the people want because we know what you want and youre not getting it lol.

As a saturation diver you are cooped up in a container down below for god knows how many week at a time, an analog wrist watch with date is very helpful. As analog dive watch are most suitable for saturation divers, it makes sense to have the helium escape valve. Scuba divers just use wrist computers.

Buying a dive watch, with or without HEV, luxury or common, has nothing to do with diving. Buying a Ferrari or a Jeep doesn’t mean I’m going to race or go off-roading, or even push either near its limits.

The pelagos is more comparable to the sea dweller and not the submariner. The pelagos is the way to go though its probably the best value in a luxury watch. Had to go with the blue pelagos it's a beauty.

Not a bargain Submariner, a better Submariner. Yes, Rolex claims the Sub is more accurate than the Pelagos, but both are COSC chronometers. The Pelagos is rated deeper, has a lighter yet stronger case, and a higher power reserve. The Pelagos is Rolex's modern version of the diver... what the Submariner would be if it was designed today.
