So if you can afford a Rolex Submariner, you can get a Tudor Pelagos AND a BB58, and walk away with change. The Pelagos 39 is a true future classic, all the touches are 21st century updates to the classic Tudor Sub formula. If you want a Pro diver, go Pelagos 42. If you want a classy, modern, dive inspired sports watch that’s made to go anywhere and do anything, go Pelagos 39. If you want a retro nineteen-fifties inspired classic dive style watch, go Black Bay 58. Tudor have a watch for (nearly) everyone now.

I have a 2008 non date Sub and while I still love it, I might prefer my new 39. I recently bought the FXD and at £7,270 for both Pelagos watches against a new non date Sub at £7,700, I would say buy the two from Tudor. Only problem is, if you are able to buy a Sub at retail, you have to buy it. It will be instantly worth £4,000 more. At £12,000 plus for a used Sub, buy the Pelagos 39 and keep over £8,000 in the bank. It’s a no brainier.

I have a BB58 and the Pelagos 39 is a great watch but I won't be swapping my BB58 for a Pelagos. BB58 has a lot more charm and character to it. Either way, you can't go wrong

The 58 is a tad dressier and the pelagos is a bit more rugged looking, but either can walk the line equally well if you don’t take it to the extremes.
This Pelagos 39 looks like almost the perfect watch for me - completely matching my preferences except for just a couple small things.

You watch guys need to get over the obsession with diving capabilities and tool watches. Virtually no one wears them for that function any longer. They are nearly all fashion pieces. Everyone is beating around the bush with this watch and you've come closest to nailing it with this comparison but still missed the mark. This is a sub-alternative and the best one we've seen since the originals were released by either company. And that's why I love it and why it will be so successful. It is an understated, significantly more affordable, sub. End of story. Now someone help me find one!

They are becoming easier to get. I sold a Tag to my jeweller and said I wanted to see the 39. They said they had one in the safe for someone but he just called to say he doesn’t want it. Two hours later, it was mine.

That’s like buying a car with a Ferrari badge that goes slow and saying nobody races them or drives them fast anyway. So many divers who wear these along with the dive computers in the other wrist.
Love it. Like Bark and Jack, youv'e pointed out the marketing, with the linen suits etc. , but its gotta be the best looking diver, nay watch ever!!!!!!
I’ve had a deepsea black dial for years, wife bought me both blue and black pelagos this year. As amazing and perfect watches they are, the rolex just has that something extra- beside the hefty price tag! Choice and value with the Tudor all day long.

I know what you mean, but it’s also deliberate in the design. Well, the bezel does have the 120 instead of 60 clicks, which is nice. But other than that there are a lot more polished surfaces and a shinier dial/ indeces etc that make it more elegant. But if you take that away it’s kind of hard to compare a steel sub or a similar to an all brushed titanium pelagos. They do have great clasps and the new micro adjustment should be in all Rolex watches. The easy link is useless, as 5mm is just way too much extra girth for any normal temperature changes. I digress.
Thank you for this excellent video, the comparison with the BB58 and Submariner were especially useful 👍
Great video. Love the new Tudor Pelagos!
Im waiting for my pelagos 39 to arrive and a 58 will for sure be my next one
Did you find the line on the hands died out before the markers as others have seen?
Lovely watch my choice would be Pelagos 42 all day from the Tudors. The Sub is amazing and I own it but don’t love the high polished sides how big the crown wears and the bezel it’s too toy ish compared to the Pelagos 42.
what is your wrist size? I have a 6.25" inch wrist and I'm not sure it'll fit well?
I don’t understand why they couldn’t do a full 300m water resistant if it doesn’t need the valve

I prefer the Black Bay M79230B-0008 41mm with the white hand set, and matt blue anodised aluminium Bezel insert. Has the retro signed crown with the Tudor rose, Domed sapphire crystal, and Rivet bracelet... But I Prefer the slightly bigger size, the clean white hand set(and lume) and the matt blue insert for a bit of color. A modern retro look(LoL), the best of both worlds. I'm aware one in Steel and the other is Titanium. I'm used to steel watches, and actually don't even notice the weigh.
I love it also

Loved this when it came out, but as a blue 42mm Pelagos owner the only thing I can think of is that Tudor stripped all the unique charms of the brutally functional 42 to make the 39 more appealling to the masses. Nothing wrong with that approach and it's still an epic watch, just missing some of those key elements (dynamic clasp, hev, cut out rehaut, etc.) that made the first Pelagoses (Pelagi?) a Pelagos

I don’t think you should ever get a Tudor in place of a Rolex. Save and get a Rolex if you really want one. Buy a Tudor for what they are - really well built and finished Swiss watches for their price bracket. The issue I have with buying Tudor in place of Rolex, is there are other, cheaper homages you can buy. Why buy a Tudor when you can buy a Stenhart? Why buy Steinhart when you can buy some un-named Chinese clone?

Good review. Watch geeks need to stop squealing very time Tudor puts a watch out that isn't a Submariner. Tudor will NEVER make another submariner. Tudor and Rolex are now very separate companies.
