Tudor Black Bay 54 m79000n - Better Than The Black Bay 58?

Unboxing, review, and history of the new Tudor Black Bay 54. And comparison to a Black Bay 58. Is it better? Is it worth all the hype? I think so!

One of the great review of BB54 so far, Cut to the point, showing all the shot we need instantly. (Good shot + cutting sequence, first time I watch review and didn't click skip to see the part I want haha.) It's 12 mins of quality. Thank you so much.

One hell of an unboxing knife, lol. Getting this bad boy first of next month. Like you, I wish it featured a holes case to complete the vintage vibe and ease of strap change - because this is definitely going on and off a Sean Connery Erica's Originals strap. Fantastic unboxing, thoughts, and visuals. Much appreciated.

This is my opinion for this very cool subject: I have a family heirloom Rolex 6538 but will never wear it in the wild. As a matter of fact it is in a safe in a vault. I bought 5-digit sub back in 05-06 and still love it to this day and will always be in my rotation, but I also wanted to wear something vintage but there was nothing out there until the first Blackbay back in I guess 2010s some time. In hopes it would feel like the 6538, I found it was not and did not wear like it. 2018 comes around and the BB58 arrives. The BB58 wears almost exactly the same as a Rolex 6538. The BB58 is 39mm x 11.9mm in height x 47mm lug to lug and a lug width of 20mm. The crown is 6-6.5mm. The Rolex 6538 is 38mm x 15.2mm in height due to the doomed x 47mm lug to lug and a lug width of 20mm. The crown is I believe 8mm last I checked. I tried the BB54 and it was an awesome watch! Love the fit and feel but also did not fit like a 6538 at all which makes sense because it is a nod to an older vintage but even then it is it’s own thing as the vintage it is based off from 1954 it is based off is larger lug to lug and thickness. So the BB54 does not wear like a vintage but it wears very different in a good way. For me I wanted something like the 6538 and the BB58 is my preferred. Specifically, the Gilt dial. Lastly the lume on the BB54 is not as good as the BB58. I think depending on which vintage you like most would determine which you prefer. Another option is simply owning both the BB58 and 54. For me I am waiting for 2028. I have a feeling they will make some refinements with the original BB58. They will make changes with the gnarling on the bezel and crown and may shrink it down to 38mm. Now that is a watch worth waiting for in my opinion. But no one would be wrong to own that nice BB54.

Wow you are truly blessed to have a 6538 in your family. It must hold lots of special memories! The BB54 combines vintages looks with modern fit and finishing, so I think it's fair to say it looks vintage but wears modern. I'm sure Tudor will continue to produce more variations in the BB line for years to come. We'll all be on the lookout for what is next!

@@americanlegendswatches Well said. Thank you, and yes the 6538 is a blessing. The family member who owned it was a well read and traveled man. Very cool and heart of gold kind of guy. That is exactly how it is with BB54. It is a very good watch and the coolest thing about it is it wears like nothing before and that is amazing. Tudor is amazing! As much as I have been a Rolex fan I am also a Tudor fan. The only reason I didn’t pull the trigger is for the lume and crown. I go diving every year and use my watches. I don’t use a diving computer so rely on my watches. I have to add my 5 digit is still going strong and has only been serviced once and my BB58 is a tank. I have been diving, boogey boarding, shooting range, and pickup basketball with the kids. The thing just keeps ticking and hasn’t lost any time. Bought it in 2018.

2028 ? The next BB58 will come out in 2028 ? Are you sure ? Because i will wish wait that the exit of the new BB58 but I don't think I'll wait until then. Maybe I'll continue to put money aside to buy the Seamaster 300 then.

@@luqman_4053 Tudor seems to update their models every 10 years. I think they will for the BB58 as they did the Burgundy 41mm BB. You wouldn’t be wrong getting a Seamaster and you wouldn’t be wrong owning the 41mm, 58 and 54. It is really a win, win situation either way because all of those watches are amazing pieces of engineering with a lot of history in which we can all wear with pride.

Great review, the 54 looks so refined. Is the 2mm difference really that noticeable? I may have to sacrifice the 2mm to avoid that red marker of the 58 lol.

Oh ! I agree with you 100%. I hate the red marker which completely unbalances the watch. however, I fear I will miss the BB54 because of its 37mm diameter.

I'm in my mid twenties recently married and out of uni just finished my first year of work. I want one of these so badly but I don't know it's financially responsible in my position. It wouldn't bankrupt me but it would take a big percentage out of my liquidity. I've had the call twice now. Haven't pulled the trigger.

Unless you want to invest it now and buy more watches in the future, buy it now if you're going to use it as an only watch. Get a few leather and natos. Shit get the rubber strap and rock it get as much use out of it. I would probably do that. Especially if you have a job bro

Not true, the Tudor boutique in Atlanta merely shipped it to me when it came in, rather than me driving back there to pick it up in person. (If you want to get super technical about it, that boutique is run by Watches of Switzerland, which is an authorized dealer, but still not a grey market purchase -- not that I have anything necessarily against buying off the grey market.)

@americanlegendswatches ADs (Omega's boutique, Torneau, etc.) remove stickers. I counted at least two stickers. Also, they put the box inside a nice bag that would have been included in the FedEx box. Finally, WoS cannot run a Tudor boutique, because boutiques are run directly run by the brand 😉 That's specially true now that Rolex owns Bucherer and Torneau
