It's too bad that Italian westerns were not respected back in the 1960's. Such a great western! Eli Wallach should have been nominated for an Oscar for his performance as Tuco in GB&U !!

People weren't used to spaghetti westerns sadly. They were more used to seeing hero characters and not anti-heroes outlaws and weren't used to the dirt and grit. Wish they were because this surely would've won a ton of awards.

5:42 Fun fact. That was Eli on the back of the horse, and the gunshots spooked it into running away. He was really tied up and sitting on its back as it ran away. He sat on the horse as it ran for over a mile without him having a way to even calm it down. Somehow, he managed to stay on it's back the whole way and not fall off, which could have killed him. Good flick.

What an incredible movie this is! As the years go on we can appreciate its quality even more. Eli Wallach was simply just a legendary actor - he made the role of Tuco into a larger than life character. Tuco is a bandit who has wandered down the wrong path in life, but there is so much redemption within him also, he is such a courageous, uncompromising, brave and charisma character, a flawed human no doubt, but lovable that the audience can related to!

lol Blondie's such a smug jerk for the first third of the movie. "Liable to interfere with my aim." Tuco's complaint about having to risk his life every time seems pretty legit to me. Also, I can't decide if they were just acting that whole time before the hanging, or if Blondie didn't tell him the plan the first time, until after he'd saved him.

You will have to look quickly. At 2:48 you get a glimpse of the rifle Eastwood uses for the final shot at the cemetery. It is a scope mounted civilian model Spencer rifle, not a Sharps. This is the first scene that Wallach actually did, and I think they were learning that the Spencer couldn't fire rapidly enough. Clint uses the Henry rifle at the first hanging and, at the second hanging, it now has the scope from the Spencer. It is likely that they had to cobble together a few blank rounds for the Henry from old live ammo--it is fired about 4 times and most of the muzzle reports are from a Winchester Model 94!

Tuco’s classic rant statements: “I hope yo mama end up in up in a $2 wh0e house!” Sherif shows Tuco his pix on a wanted flyer.. Tuco yells… “You can’t even read!” Tells Blondie: “whoever shoots at Tuco and leaves him alive does not know nuthin about Tuco, Nuthin!” “one bstrd go in and another one comes out!” Tuco is kakarazzy as a rabid wolf!😂😂😂

So, Tuco was acting to convince everyone that he was being turned in to be hung? But he knew the plan that the rope was to be severed? Speaking Spanish (Mexican) at 2:26? When the horse ran off with Tuco, the actor, Eli Wallach, could really have been hurt. Wallach was not secured to the horse and could not have broken his bounds to hold on or gain control.
