TTArtisan AF 35mm f/1.8 vs Fuji XF 35mm f/2 WR (APS-C Fuji X/Nikon Z/Sony E)

Ғылым және технология

TTArtisan has just released a new AF 35mm f/1.8 lens. It is a super affordable autofocus lens available for APSC mirrorless cameras Fuji X/Nikon Z/Sony E.
This is my full review when i tested both a pre-production sample as well as a final retail version. I've also did a bit of comparison with the much more expensive Fujifilm XF 35mm f/2 WR lens to see how does the TTArtisan stack up when compared to the more expensive Fuji lens.

And it is now $114!!! TTArtisans has a four day 25% off sale and free shipping over $99 and a further $5 off = $114. Amazing value!

But what we learn here: how cheap lenses can be produced today and how we get ripped off when we buy branded lenses. This might change the industry

They won't stay cheap for long. There's 2 parts of this equation : labor cost in China, and unique supply chain ecosystem, built over decades, with both foreign investments and IP, as well as Chinese government subsidies. But gradually, manufacturing in China is getting more and more expensive. DJI started with producing cheap drones, now they are selling for a premium price. Japan used to produce cheap electronics as well, now they are selling at premium. You are right about getting ripped off though. I have TTartisan 28 2.8 and it's autofocus is much better than the native Sony 50mm 1.8, which costs double.

For sure. Similar to what the Japanese manufacturers did to the established German companies in the sixties.

Honestly, its because most brands overbuilt and overspec the Lenses for their use cases, many hobbyist just want clean enough images. So many brands release their lenses as if they are only for professional work and never release a hobby lens and when they try to do, still releases them at pro prices. Many camera brands blamed Smartphones for a decline in camera sales but really its the pricing.

Excellent, thorough review, as usual. I'm curious in regards to lens flare, which I think is a problem other new Chinese lens manufacturers share. Is it that effective coatings are expensive, or is it that the coating formulas of the established Japanese and European manufacturers are "black box" and hard to duplicate? Or is it something else?

  • @TheRealRichardWong

My understanding is that effective coating is very expensive

Hi Weber, I still haven't seen any 3rd party AF lesnes for L-mount yet. But this one is an APS-C lens so probably make sense not to create it for L-mount as there is no APS-C L mount camera in the market right now.
