Good review, was thinking of this lens as I love the 25mm f2. I look forward to seeing your review of the 25mm.

Nice work! This TTArtisan 23mm f/1.4 is my first (and, hopefully, not the last) Chinese lens and, man, is a heavy hitter! I am Sony shooter (a6000) and I am using mostly vintage lenses or Sony’s first party glass if I need AF (but not that much). In the past I was skeptical about inexpensive lenses because I I was spoiled by the quality of my other MF lenses (Zeiss, Voigtländer, Meyer Optic etc). But all of them is FF glass and most of them 35 or 50mm (52 and 75mm equivalent) while my favorite focal length is the 35mm equivalent, so I needed a 23mm MF lens with a character (I have 24mm zoom and primes from Sony but are very corrected and clinical). Since I bought the TTArtisan it became part of my camera literarily! It has definitely a vintage character but is also sharp where I need it to be: in the center. Somehow, TTArtisan managed to reproduce also a very distinctive characteristic of old lenses, the field curvature. That adds to the final image especially on wider aperture settings and the final touch is definitely the vignetting. I am always adding vignette on my images with Lightroom but the effect is even better straight out of camera with this lens. Generally speaking, is not a lens for general photography. It isn’t AF, it doesn’t communicate with the camera electronically (for vintage lens users is the norm, for others is a pain) and it isn’t corrected for flaring or aberrations (both of them are welcome for me). But for people that knows how to use such a lens to its strengths, the experience is awesome! And also is cheap. Most of my Zeiss or Voigtländer lenses costed between 699€ to 1200€ and both the image or build quality isn’t vastly better than TTArtisan.

Hey Michalis! Sorry for the late response. I agree 100% with everything you said. It's so cool to have affordable options like this that produce a solid image with some vintage flare without having to use an adapter. I've become a huge fan of TTartisan lenses. Thanks for watching and commenting! Much appreciated.

Thanks for the review! I've been interested in trying TT Artisan for a while. The short recap at the end for how they each serve a purpose is also insightful. You mentioned how they're all a bit different in sharpness and maybe other characteristics, but would you say their overall look is consistent? Like, do they all share the same feel? For example, is the contrast and color rendition the same from lens to lens?

They all have a similar feel but I haven't done an in depth comparison. I think they're close enough to be able to use a few of them on the same project and be okay.

I just got this for micro four thirds, I love the 46mm equivalent focal length, even though its obviously mainly desiged to be used as a 35mm on aps-c. I haven't looked at any pictures on the computer yet, but they seem very nice on the camera screen. As far as any flaws it might have, most native lenses for mft have atrocious image quality flaws, they just get corrected in software. I use RawTherapee for processing my raw files, so I don't necessarily get all the baked in corrections, I deal will really gross fringing on the two cheap Panasonic lenses I have, and they're both kit zooms that don't even make particularly cool looking pictures. Either one would cost more than this 23 if I had to buy it seperately. I haven't run into any field curvature yet either, its unlikely to show up in photos of 3 dimensional objects at wide apertures, considering the shallof dof. Anyway I'm pretty sure I have a filter in my bag that costs more than this thing, so I'm not too concerned one way or the other, the pictures look cool, focal length is awesome on mft.

That’s awesome it’s working out well for you. I love it too. I’ve been impressed with all of these TTartisan lenses. What MFT camera do you have? Someday I want to get one and play around a bit. I’ve never tried MFT. Thanks for watching!
