I noticed the the rod pivot and clamp pivot are not aligned, do you think this will have any affect on sharpening?

I have had a convex adaptor for my K03 for about a year, but never got really good instruction on it so I've never been brave enough to use it. The little bit you talk about it here is the best i've seen so thank you. I'd love a full video just on convex sharpening do's and dont's.

I love my TS Prof Kadet...it's impossible to overstate the quality and how good it feels to use as you mentioned early in the review. Sad the pro model didn't exist when I bought mine. After a year and dozens of knives I'll probably upgrade to the KO3 at some point. I'll have to look in to the advantages of convex edges...it isn't something I'm familiar with.

Good review, GB. Without the extra doodads (L-brackets?) what is the minimum blade length it will clamp? I have looked at the website and can't seem to find the inside to inside measurement for the clamps when they are adjusted all the way in (without the L-brackets). I have short bladed carving knives, small pocket knives and broadheads I would like to use this for as well as all the bigger bladed kitchen knives and such. Or, is the BLITZ 360 Standard more what I am looking for (it's on SALE).

I just use a single clamp on small blades and it works fine for me.

I have over time saved up and bought 3 nice knives when found lightly used or on sale. Now i need to sharpen them, but i am tighter budget as i am in university. I expect to sharpen the knives about every 2 months. Which sharpening system would you recommend and what stones and grids shoudl i be looking at? (The most expensive from new, is a kramer damascus santoku)

Economically, buying modest quality stones and hand sharpening makes the most sense. It’s just not easy to learn for many people and the number of stones to choose from is mind boggling. I like Arkansas combo stones which aren’t the cheapest. 400/1000 Sharp Pebble stone is a good start, so is 400/1000 grit Whetstone Cutlery combo, add a 2000 grit stone and you’re rolling.

Quality aint cheap, im looking to get one

Where can I get the L bracket?

I bought a cheap knock off for 1/5 the price and just upgraded the stones and I love it. Not even close to that thing but I can afford this one.

I bought the knock off that is a little over half the price since we are not allowed to due business with Russia due to the war. It is identical to the original down to the sound the stone compensator makes when you drop it in. Not even really sure if it was a knock off or just TSProf selling with no logo via Ali Express to avoid sanctions. They had versions of both kadet, kadet pro and blitz. Sadly it came with no stones.

hey GB a video idea comparing different stones, stuff like compound stones, diamond stones, japanese sharpening stones cheapo stones esc esc. personally use the old style of stones where you clamp the stone down and all the angles are done my eye but buying new stones is a hassle since theres so much to offer on the market these days

Could you flip the Convex Mini to almost hollow grind a blade?

You could always pick up a couple small split collars to use as limiters, they aren't going to move although I'd suggest not banging them very hard or you might get the pivot wobbly. You could prob find some small thumb screws to go in the split collar if you want to keep it tooless.

Please how much time to sharpen ? Which diamond stone. Extra coarse + médium is enough ?

I think 800-1200 grit is enough for most uses. This would be “fine” in most cases.

You didn't give a link for the L brackets, I have looked everywhere and can't find them, can you help a brother out?

Could you compare this to say using a paper wheel on a grinder? I know accuracy won’t be the same but I’ve heard sharpening on a paper wheel is extremely fast which is nice if you need to sharpen many knives

I tried that briefly years ago on a low speed buffer. I didn’t have a lot of success but other people seem to like them. I’m not sure control of your angles is great. If it works for you it’s an inexpensive option.

You can set an angle on the paper wheel, it just requires a little bit of geometry, steady hand and an eyeball to sort out where the entry point of approach is. There is still a lot of the human factor involved in so much its sort of like learning to use stones correctly, but your removal rates are much quicker and hence, why I do a 'factory edge' on paper wheels. Cut the final bevel on a low speed 600g belt and tune them up on the paper wheels. Which may seem appalling to knife dorks but I try to put out 12-15 finished kitchen knives a month that usually range between 6-12" and doing that entirely by hand would take even on diamond stones probably several days and that's several days I'm not being as productive as I could be even moving other tasks around them. The Razor sharp kit is well worth the 50 bucks, all the grit, polishes and then just get a cheapo bench grinder, or DIY it out of some 1" thick MDF and true them up to suit the tool. These things are pretty important too if you're using some of the really monstrous very high carbon, high alloy tool, and stainless steels that give no shits about traditional knife rubbing rocks! They're full of niobium, vanadium, arse loads of nickel and chromium that just don't care for more conventional sharpening, so you end up going diamond stones and machines to put an actual edge on them within a reasonable period of time quicker than tectonic drift

You totally nailed the review on all points pro and con. The $300+ price is pretty high, but if the unit delivers on precision I'm in. I think I'm going to get one. Thanks GB.

That's $525. You did say "$300+" so technically you're correct, sir. 🤣 But if "$300+" is "pretty high", the actual price of $525 would be "astronomically high"(?). BUT we can all agree that very high quality hardware along with the inclusion of high quality diamond stones makes it an almost-reasonably-priced product.

I got mine for $365 and yeah, it's a lot for this unit since I'm used to manual stone sharpening for 60% less. What I deem to be a lot might not line up with what you imagine is a lot.

As I stated though, I still concede that that is in fact "$300+". So maybe the massive number of likes you got to my sad none were people agreeing with you that $525 is indeed $300+?

I would use it… but literally only for pocket knives with hard to sharpen steel.

I’d say if the price was say $150~$200 cheaper; it’d be the world’s number one most popular most homes knife sharpener hands down.

I would probably disagree with the con on the price, you'd have to shop around to get one cheaper and just doing the numbers it'd be about $780 Aust to get one out here to the fumblebuck backwoods at the edge of civilisation. The thing is as a knife maker, already got the workshop full of tools to do good edges and I just don't need one. However, if you do own a lot of knives, you're part of the generation that doesn't use stones, need to sharpen them a lot or simply know what you want in terms of a repeatable edge geometry as a 'knife consumer' I don't see why you wouldn't want one?

Great review & very compelling & effective ad, whether by intention or from the objectively high quality of the product. I absolutely despise advertising and do my utmost to avoid being exposed to advertising, or if unavoidable, I will be deliberately contrary and avoid that brand. That said… I was disappointed that the only delivery options were the US or Canada. In conclusion, you should be charging them for uninfluenced reviews. Put the onus on the manufacturer to have quality products, because the apparent sincerity of your reviews, makes for very valuable advertising for quality manufacturers. Because price is exponentially proportional to quality, even the products with bad reviews, still get good advertising if their pricing is more accessible. The only losers are companies that sell overpriced garbage. So I think you should really start charging fees for honest reviews and dump advertisements from companies that attempt to coerce a positive review. After all, the real value in your (un)paid promotions, is your personal credibility, something most reviewers lack and it’s a quality that once lost, is lost forever. It’s like if Bill Cosby tried to become a bartender.

Because it's a Russian based company and they need US dollars. Dollars are currently the only worthy currency in there because of the sanctions. I can see that they also moved "office" to US, probably of the sanctions too.

@@Mariuszhero whilst I do recognise your concerns, reluctantly disagree. I think it is a fundamentally bad idea to discourage innovation and ever increasing quality, due to convoluted, disingenuous and most of all, entirely artificial, political machinations of global events. Even if Russia profits from it, the global market is huge and agile. If this product sells well, it’s competitors will have to match pr surpass them. After all, once a benchmark is set, other manufacturers have to exceed it. Whilst I in no way excuse/condone Russia’s actions, I fully support a higher benchmark. Boycotting a knife sharpener manufacturer, is a drop in the ocean. It pales in comparison to the brute force of innovation, that capitalism unleashes when they’re forced to compete. The fact is, if no one buys them because they’re Russian, the monopolistic competition, has no incentive to improve their products. On the other hand, if everyone bought one, Russia would get a few million dollars from sales (this isn’t an everyday household item), the competition loses sales, then sales stop, because high quality equipment lasts longer. Now, unless the competition is just going to throw their hands up in the air and admit defeat (whilst their multimillion dollar business dies), the competition will have to innovate to make a product that’s either a copy or is significantly superior to this one, That consumers will fork out more money to upgrade. With the exception of iPhones and other social status orientated products, bought primarily for “image”, improvements have to be significant enough to reach the threshold where consumers think the additional expense of upgrading, is beneficial enough to be worth the upgrade e.g. graphics cards for gamers. People don’t just fork out several thousand dollars to add a couple of extra FPS. They want at least a quarter and more often double, of what they already have. TL;DR the long term gains far surpass the short term… well… how many knife sharpeners do you think they’d actually sell when limited to just the US and Canada? Their global footprint is too small to qualify as a loss in comparison to companies with global distribution networks. Basically, a niche Russian knife sharpener manufacturer, gets a few million from sales, trusted brands lose a few million, spread thinly across the entirety of the industry. The competition responds by making even better products. Then things return to normal, with the top brands back at the top and the niche Russian company returns to obscurity. Meanwhile, consumers are getting better products and the new products are significantly better, the most innovative one profits the most. So you’re only shooting yourself in the foot. You have to be content with the mass produced garbage from the stagnant competition, who never had to spend money innovating, because thanks to supposed “patriotism”, the consumers voluntarily accepted their substandard products.

Russian people are suffering at the hands of their tyrannical leader who props up himself up w political persecution, sham votes and propaganda. I don’t know what the politics of the people at tsprof are. I doubt they can say how they feel either way. I like to think they love their children as much as we do s as f are anxious for bloodshed to stop. Hopefully Ukraine will eject Russia from their territory soon and Putin’s regime will collapse. Seems like the alternative is fighting a guerilla war for a decade with Ukrainian resistance propped up by the west which would be a disaster?

I do agree that boycotting a company that is located within a country that is trying to stomp on a sovereign nation might be misguided, but it can be effective. If a country's leader was concerned about such economic problems, maybe that country's people should pressure their leadership to play nicely. It would be nice to see such high quality tools become common amongst similar manufacturers, though.

Though I’d take it further and say that even if TSProf are helping to fund Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, innovation is innovation and it’s highly improbable they could much with the profits they get between now and a better product coming into the market (something that is only slowed down by boycotting innovation). Buy the “best” products, to ensure that in the future you will have “better” products.

I would like to see the angle graduations marked in degrees rather than pictures of different types of knives... Geezzz...

Everyone should learn to hand sharpen.

Hi, i think this type of sharpening systems are not sharpening a blade on the original angle but on a forced angle and only if the blade is perfectly round with the same radius on the whole lenght of the blade this kind of system will work and i said not this sysytem but all the systems with only a pivot point. If you are not in accord with me, you can make a video to show with the electronic angle meter to show everybody in different spots of the blade it is a different angle and that can damage the blades and messed up your entire angle of the blade because when you haveTHE SAME HEIGHT BUT DIFFERENT DISTANCE, THE ANGLE BETWEEN THE BLADE AND STONE CHANGE, and THATS NOT GOOD FOR THE BLADES. After few sharpening sessions with these kind of systems you will have on a single blade a mutitude of angles that VARY with the shape of the blade, the more curves or chages of a direction of a blade has the more angles you'll have because, LIKE I SAID BEFORE, THE DISTANCE AND ANGLES ARE INVERSELY PROPORTIONAL then as one quantity increases, the other decreases.

I don't care how repeatable the flip is if we aint measuring the actual knife flats.sure you might have a 34degree total angle, but one side could be 20, the other 14 depending how centered the blade ended up in the fixture.

Do not buy this! I recieved one on which the rotating arm clamp didnt work and had to dispute the charge with my bank. They have 0 customer service. Their phone rings once, then hangs up on you. 3 weeks after I initially reached out, they sent me a return lable to send back my faulty unit - ONLY FOR THEM TO SEND ME THE SAME FAULTY UNIT! They didn't even repackage it 😂. BUYER BEWARE. This is a horrible company that will do absolutely nothing but waste your time if you have an issue.

Models start at $400 up to $600 ?? Wtf ? And that’s b4 taxes/shipping..wtf ? .. your review is actually good and I’m sure it does a good job but the price just ain’t worth it - make your own diy system for much less and the same results..but of course some people will buy it But not me .. but again good video

Silliest thing I've seen in a while. You don't need expensive tools to sharpen knives, you just need some experience doing it. Practice on cheap ones.

This is a tough one. It’s Putin’s war, and his cronies, not the Russian people’s. Kazak makes sharpeners every bit as good as TsPROF. I reviewed one a while back. Remember what happened in Germany after ww1. The German people paid dearly under surrender terms and over the next decade fascism and the nazis took hold. The end of this war may be the foundation of the next if we aren’t careful. At any rate the review is an honest one about a knife sharpener, not commentary on a crazy Russian dictator, his kleptocracy and their genocide in Ukraine. They should all be tried as war criminals Nuremberg style. I donated a TSPROF affiliate payout to a Ukrainian soldier veteran’s assistance program a while back. See my Instagram. That thickness compensator could be better.
