Thanks!
To start or not to start, that's the question....
I had to do a few final things before I could try and start the bike... If that all went well, you can see in this video.
In this video I also explain how to connect the Yamaha Virago fuelhoses. A question I get a lot.

    Well done, a great moment when a bike fires up after a re-build, looking and sounding good, we all make small errors when working on bikes so don,t worry, the main thing was that it was a small quick fix, look forward to see a video of it on the road, Kind Regards Doc Cox.

    I know this is a little late, but there's a way to siphon gas with just a hose where you don't have to spit out fuel afterwards. If you jam the hose really far into the tank, cover the end with your thumb and pull it back out then hold it below the level of the fuel tank and let your finger off the end, you can get fuel to flow that way. Same principal as when you stick a straw into a glass of water, cover the end with your finger, and then pick up the straw and it stays full of water. It doesn't work well when the fuel tank is almost empty, but with a longer hose and a full tank of gas to siphon from, it shouldn't be a problem.

    ChiefPep you're an amazing mechanic, the way I saw you build that engine I was pretty sure it was going to start no problem, even if you forgot to tighten the oil line so what? Shit happens and atleast it is no big deal, congrats, it is amazing to see an engine you re-build yourself start for the first time. The extra hose on the carb manifold is for carburetor synchronization, one of the manifolds should have one and the other two, that way you can sinchronize them with your tank on the bike. You should make a video on carburetor synchronization on a Virago, it is a very simple and quick process. Usually if the bike starts to back fire or sound out of synch it is usually the carburetor that are out of synch.

    Wow man!!! The engine runs at the first attempt!! You have done an amazing work!!! I really like it. Only there are 2 questions, which are the dimensions of the rear tire and how are you going to tune your carbs if the exhaust will be blocking your access in the right carb? Congratulations man!!!

  • @chiefpepdesign

    @chiefpepdesign

    6 жыл бұрын

    Israel Flores Rear tyre is 150 17". You can search for several video's with tyres and wheels in the topic. If tuning needs to be done I bring it to the Dynojet dealer. It takes me way to much time and hassle if I have to buy several jets in advance and have to drive around my house all day to fine tune and sync the carbs. And you can still access the right side.

    Zack Martin I did. And basically the rule of thumb is to run it and leave it to cool off for 2 minutes rather then running it for 30 seconds. Running an engine for 30 seconds is never good. All parts should be able to expand by heat evenly. Metal, aluminum, cast etc. Thanks for the concern!

    @@felipeiturra1459 Yes, see my bio. But if you don't have a vacuum on your petcock, then you don't need a vacuum hose. Simple as that.

    I see the rear carburetor vacuum have 2 hoses for the petcock, you said for 2 petcock is 1 each, but what happen with the front, it have 1 hose and the 13mm hose in my bike is in front cylinder

    I explain that you top off all the nipples that you don't use. It is very easy: Each carburator has 1 hose for fuel. That's it. Connect that to your petcock end which gives fuel. On the top of the carbs you also find an other large very short hose but this just goes in the frame. It just needs plain air. Nothing more. Then you provide every petcock with an air hose (those are the transparant ones that I use). These are connected to the inlet which connects the carburator to the rear cylinder. You can use any nipple there. That's it. Nipples that you don't use on your inlet, close them and/or top them off. Ok?

    And the hose which is on your front cylinder is the hose for the Oil baffle. That hose needs to go to somewhere where it can throw out non-used oil. It goes over the top of the cylinders for instance, down the back of your frame (between your engine and rear wheel). There you find a connection where you can put it on. It's an oil spilage hose. It does nothing.

    Bo Sundsgaard Jensen So many have said that allready. No it suppose to be like that with this Pirelli Angel GT tyre (look for it on Google, you'll see). And tyres have arrows on them so you never have to doubt the rotating direction. Thanks for the concern.

    Also, on first start leave the ignition switch off and crank the motor for a bit so the engine can build oil pressure. This prevents a dry start. Especially when an engine has been sitting for a long time.
