Trying to recreate the famous Efren Reyes 'Z-Shot' | Your Average Pool Player

Спорт

Efren Reyes had some incredible shots in his career, but no shot would be quite as tense and unbelievable as the 1995 Z-Shot. Undoubtedly the most famous of professional pool shots, when Efren stepped to the table there wasn't a single person who genuinely thought he was going to make the ball. Sure enough, the Magician produced an incredible trick and dropped the 5 into the corner.
23 years later, Your Average Pool Player Rollie Williams attempts to recreate the Z shot while documenting his progress. The going was slow, but eventually it became clear that there were 3 major variables to optimize for: Spin, Speed, and Rail Contact Point. It's one of the most difficult shots to hit. Try setting it up at your house and giving it a shot.
The track used in the video is 'Rest' by Otis McDonald: • Rest - Otis McDonald |...

Actually, Efren said " All these shots are all mastered in years, the only shot I can't do is how to avoid the interviews by those foreign sports writers and reporters who keep asking and talking to me in English.

You are crazy underestimating Efren here. He definitely knows far more about the game than anyone of us mortals. No two shots are ever exactly the same, even the weather of the day makes a difference. In order to pull off what Efren does on a regular basis, he had to understand every minute detail in every shot. It’s incredibly patronizing to think that he could dominate multiple disciplines in pool globally for decades without actually understanding how it works down to the deepest levels. I guarantee you he understood the game in all its aspects, and he understands it on a deeper level than all of his world-class peers, let alone nobodies on the internet.

I play district level comp. world pool and every now and again I start to feel like a competent amateur. Then I see genuine top players executing astonishing shots on the first attempt. I can only admire. ... back to the table...

V shot is already hard, not to mention the Z shot. But the crazy thing is, he only did it once. That's why I always feel like some people are gifted, people like Reyes. You have to have incredible amount of accuracy to pull these crazy shots off, 1mm off the ball will most likely not work. Legend

I think that was the most amazing shot he’s ever done that was documented in video. There’s an article about him in Time Magazine Asia back in 2001 where he made an amazing shot in the Color of Money in 1994. There was an illustration of his shot and I’ve been searching all over the internet for it. If I remember correctly, it was a triple bank shot. We had a copy of the magazine before and I read it a dozen times. But I can’t find it anymore.

Thank you for this video showing just how difficult that shot by Efren and how he is a cut above the best pool players.

wow, there's a bit of luck on efren's part that's for sure. but this goes to show how much understanding of the cue ball and the table he has to be able to imagine trying that. even if he doesn't make the shot, good percentage of good safety... efren is boss.

That shot was the product of decades of dedication to the game, and millions of shots loaded into the shot computer in his brain. Very, very few players, including pros, would have come up with the combination of angle, speed, and English to make that shot on the first try in a do-or-die situation.

Just one, I suppose. And he did. His name is Efren "Bata" Reyes.
