    @@victorraymartinez the truck is still running perfectly, 225,000 miles. I was surprised how well it handled the tongue weight, I have hooked up to a newer heavier double wide just to move it a few feet so that my mover guy can get hooked up to it, “double wide had to be moved 50 miles and I only use my truck for short distance on back roads. Anyway it did sag a bit more when hooked up to the double wide but it still moved it lol. 😀

    @@frugallandlord6974 Man thats pretty dang cool i love a good truck that keeps on kicking. i have a 91 ford i have to rebuild, finally crapped out at 780,000 miles but i in no way put her through that kind of stress. but man you did that to help your mover out? most people cant even be bothered to mow their grass, or take their furniture out. we had moved a single wide in Edmond OK and we asked the owners about 5 times to remove the furniture.well they didn't so we moved it anyways. the part of the tongue that sits directly on the ball snapped clean off in the middle of a busy intersection. haha that was terrible

    In 1958 my parents pulled a 46 x 8 foot mobile home from Florida to New Mexico with a 1955 Desoto when the Air Force transferred my Dad. It was areal experience for a ten year old.

    Amazing story. Did the car break down any. That was a huge distance for this car to pull the heavy trailer house. That’s before they started referring to them by mobile home or manufactured home. In 1958 my family also lived in a trailer house. It was 8 X 43 feet. Once we moved it a short distance with a bulldozer. Didn’t have to get on the highway, but relocated it farther up the hill from where it was first located. I was just 9 or 10 yrs old and this was exciting to watch for a kid. We probably moved that trailer house five or six times before my dad sold it.

  • @dadskrej5226

    Take it from me, a man who retired from the mobile/manufactured home industry (hauling, setting-up, etc.), an empty mid/late 70's-80's Fleetwood like this (2 axles) would be very do-able with a 3/4 ton pickup (camper special preferred). But won't work with just a bumper mounted ball. You'd need a class 3 hitch to the frame of the truck to do it.

  • @frugallandlord6974

    @frugallandlord6974

    I’m not sure if it’s a camper special but this truck seems to have heavier springs than any 3/4 ton I have see in this generation of trucks, thanks for the knowledge, I love to hear from people who have been there. 😀

    I might be a dumbass but can you camp in trailers like those? Or no, because it's likely near impossible.

    well moving them is a bit of a challenge, after that they don’t have propane appliances or holding tanks for fresh water or sewer, I don’t think you will find a space at the lake to park one either.

    That's nothing, many years ago I saw a guy moving one with a jeep cj5. His front wheels were completely off the ground 90% of the time.

    Yeah I thought it was funny as hell. I think I was about 20 at the time. It was in Coldwater, Michigan. We didn't have cell phones back then or I would have gotten a video of it.

    @@michaelvernier1584 yeah a cj5 is a very light weight vehicle I can’t imagine if he needed to stop, even with my truck the front tires slid easily, so he really only had his rear brakes.🫣

    He was all over the road (back road) too. The only time the front wheels touched the ground was when he applied the brakes. Soon as he gave it some gas the front came off the ground. I don't know if he ever made it to his destination. I was turning the corner onto the road he was on and I stopped dead in my tracks, backed off the road and got out of his way and just watched as he went past.

    Why would I move a mobile home or why wouldn’t I hire an expensive mover? I like doing things that are risky as long as I know I won’t hurt anyone else.

    @@briantruck2284 good point, this truck came from the factory with 2 transmission oil coolers, first it goes through the giant radiator, then it goes through a separate transmission oil cooler.
