    Thanks Skyway73. You are spot on their, one of the commentors had one! I was shocked. They must have been popular even though they seem rare now. Happy to bring a bit of the 1980s nostalgia back. Hope you enjoyed the video and as always thanks so much for your support.

I do remember melody clocks were a big thing, though I never owned one. Thanks so much for your comment. Glad I was able to bring back some happy memories

    I know it's a long time ago but do you remember if yours had the backward phenomenon where pressing the right button moved the time earlier and the left advanced the time? And do you know what the adjust button was for?

    Thanks Stuart, you are the first to mention the retrobrighting in the comments. Glad you did it actually made a huge difference to the clock, I should probably have made a bit more of it but I forgot to film a side by side. The tracks were a nightmare but I am pleased you agree it's worthwhile in the end. Thanks so much for your comments. Really appreciated.

    Hi Roger, you don't have to scrape or sand off the enamel from the copper wire. Just get a blob of solder on the tip of your iron and quickly feed the end of the wire into the solder and out again. The enamel melts and the copper tins nicely. Takes a little practice but it saves a lot of time and creates nice neat joints. I learned this technique when prototyping mobile phones. Great video by the way!

    Brilliant video as ever! I love these little digital clocks. I have a Casio CQ-1, look them up I’m sure you’d love it. Really nice design. Yours is so evocative of the 80s, I had a melody alarm watch which was the mutts back then! 😄 Corrosion is a real pig. Have you ever tried repairing traces with a conductive pen? I like the green nail varnish idea. I bought some solder mask paint which sets with UV light. I think I prefer your method! 😄 I’m so glad you managed to fix this excellent little piece of 80’s tech!

  • @RetroTechRepair

    @RetroTechRepair

    2 жыл бұрын

    Wow that CQ-1 is awesome! Was it VFD? You are right about the melody, everyone wanted one, and this sounded more than a subtle than a square wave... I should have put a scope on it. I actually gave consideration to the conductive pen approach and then for some odd reason forgot entirely about it. I think in some places (close to the switches) it would probably have been a much better approach. Goodness knows why having thought about it I didn't think again! Oh well. I'm not sure if the nail varnish is a good idea, but they don't sell solder mask at boots and it seemed OK. We will see if anyone yells NO! Anyhow thanks for your detailed comments. Really appreciated. So glad you enjoyed the video

    One day the Amigas will come... I'm hoping for 600 donation then I can do The Three Amigas. Seriously though there are a lot of people who know a lot about amigas and I am not one of them. I have some interesting 8 bit stuff to come ahead of the amigas. I work 3 jobs so it's hard for me to find time for the channel sometimes and the repairs take me an awful lot time. The clock has 3 weeks of my free time so you can imagine how long an amiga might take. They will come sometime but it might be a while unfortunately
