Thanks Brian. So glad that you enjoyed the repair. Boris has now moved on to his new home. He sold for more than I paid but made a loss after after fees 😕 poor Boris. That's usually how my repairs go unfortunately. But I don't currently do this for profit so as long as people are enjoying the videos that's a good thing! Thanks for your kind words. Glad you enjoyed the video.

@@RetroTechRepair It was definitely a fun video. If I was to go through the toy section of a catalogue from the 70s and 80s, I would have a field day looking at the toys I wish I had.

@awal1701 me too. I used to keep quite a few tandy catalogues and got really excited when the new argos catalogue came out. I remember catalogues like littlewoods and Gratton too big thick things with while sections of electronics and toys.

@@RetroTechRepair oh yes the big thick catalogues, certainly reminds me of Christmas in the 70s and 80s. I am lucky enough to still have a number of board games and toys from the 70s and 80s that need minor repair.

Thanks Hans, You are the first commenter who actually had one of these. I looked at some other videos after your comments and their Boris sounded like mine, so it could be a common problem, but since the circuit is so simple Im wondering if perhaps there were later / different versions of the game. I think mine was an early one and later ones used C-cells so perhaps they improved the design over time with better sound too. Either way a great comment. Thank you for sharing.

@Hans Bambach Thanks more good info........ That does help, I think mine is an early one too so that's my theory busted. This one seems to perform the same way, but it could still be a common fault. kzread.infoY6TVKoR7h9M?feature=share

So it makes sense you remember both red and green if it was the same version I had. Thanks so much for your comments. Really appreciated. I had 'Stop Boris' as a kid back in the late 70s, I've no idea how my parents got it for me if it was that expensive as we were not anywhere near well off. I have the feeling one of them might have fallen off the back of a lorry in my father's direction... I was told in no uncertain terms to never shoot the gun at my brother (he would've been a toddler at the time) as it was dangerous...I don't know if they thought that it fired microwaves and I'd fry his brain or it would cause him to grow two heads. Considering they were quite intelligent people they believed some really stupid cobblers. (I wont even get into the whole video nasties thing...) Of course over the years it became a good way of tormenting my brother when they weren't around. Unfortunately when I moved out from my parents house it was under a dark cloud, and everything that was left was disposed of. So my poor Boris is probably under 50 tonnes of rubbish, along with my ZX Spectrum and other bits and pieces in a landfill somewhere.

Thanks "A hole" and thanks so much for sharing your story with us. So happy to bring back some childhood memories. I remember my parents (also quite bright) believed everything they read in the newspapers... "it said in the paper that..." so I had my fair share of nonsense facts growing up too! Hopefully your brother survived without lasting damage. I'd imagine many a boris ended up in landfill, I pity the first person to unearth one. I should imagine a 10" spider is a scary find. As for the speccie if you want some nostalgia for that, I have a rubber key and a spectrum+ to repair somewhere so at some point you might see one of those here. 'till then.... thanks again!
