Try This Quiet Old-Fashioned Spot For A Tasty Mangalore Breakfast! HOTEL KARTHIK | Great Dosa Too!

I stepped out of my hotel to find some good coffee when I discovered this low profile 30-year-old eatery in Kottara, an area that’s off the beaten track for most visitors to Mangalore. Whilst I enjoyed the coffee, ambode and buns, what stole my heart here were the dosae, a butter-laden one, and then, an old school version sans any butter or ghee that took me back nearly half a century to the way masala dosa was made back in the day. Check out Hotel Karthik to taste some flavours of yesteryear.
Take care; stay safe and strong. Happy eating!

Its a sort of coffee that doesn't just whispers but shouts a good morning to you...What brilliant word wizardry
I used to have lunch here while working in Infosys kottara... guved the 1990s hotel feeling
I do not watch this channel for food, only for the english of this gentlemen, what a vocabulary, what a word power, positioning and placing them appropriately, only for english.
Great to see hotels still making such plain dosae without any fuss. These are the dosaes which can be consumed everyday without any guilt.
There are few restaurants left in Mumbai like this which still hold their charm of old days. If you visit Matunga in Mumbai you will get feel of Golden Childhood Days.

You are welcome, Sunny, glad you enjoyed this one too.
This is definitely transporting me to my childhood days of Hyderabad. Right opposite to the Secunderabad railway station, there used to be an eatery by name Bombay Anand Bhavan. Though the name suggests North Indian, i savored one of the best south indian masala dose, vade and idly there. Thank you, Kripal sir for this replenishment of happiness. May you be joyful ever! And it goes without saying and I keep saying it always that... I really wish to bump into you one day and savor some scrumptious food enjoying my fanboy moment ❤

Good morning dear Kripal - At the outset I am happy that you & Boss are having a good time in Phuket . Super happy to note that you managed to catch up with Mark Wiens & his family ❤️ Time to dive into this vlog . It’s been raining in Mumbai as well . So it’s a breakfast vlog at Hotel Karthik 👍 Wow drooling 🤤 looking at their breakfast dishes . To begin with it’s time for the Rim Jhim coffee ☕️. A true coffee connoisseur that you are , loved the way you drew comparison between both the coffee glasses and how sugar plays a role in the layer profile ( density variance ) 👌👌 Glad that you enjoyed your coffee ; one of the prime reasons for you to step out of your hotel . Yes I recollect the episode of KT at Laxmi Nivas . So you have ordered the Mangaluru Buns , Ambode & Goli Baje 😋 Wow you are incredible; just by touching the Mangaluru Buns you knew how long the batter was fermented and that you are in for a good time 👍😀 The spring test is something we do in Mumbai to test the texture & freshness of a Ladhi Pav . Oh wow that’s a great way to dip the bun in the coffee with more sugar 👌 Looks like the coconut chutney and Sambhar played second fiddle as compared to dipping the bun in the coffee . Goli Baje seems to be Ok . The Ambode has hit the spot and good combo with the chutney 👌 Next dish is the Open Benne Masala & Podi dosa . Time for your favourite move to attack the dosa from the centre ( post folding ) so that you get a wholesome flavourful experience. I love this type of Masala / Palya . I agree the plain Masala Dosa resembles a typical Mumbai Masala Dosa and happy that it brought you some nostalgic memories of having such a Dosa in Mumbai ❤️❤️ Somehow I always prefer a thick coconut chutney with my Dosa and Vada . One more cup or Rim Jhim coffee followed by a delectable Pineapple Sheera 😋 Completely agree with you I also prefer such eateries which are modest but serve some scrumptious dishes . I am so happy that you relished your breakfast. Not sure if you still managed the afternoon lunch shoot after this moderate to heavy breakfast 😀 Thoroughly enjoyed every frame of this vlog . As usual you are master in narrating and sharing your experience with us and heartfelt gratitude being a fellow food lover 🙏 Wishing you a wonderful weekend in Phuket . Take care & God Bless 😇 Loads of Love & Respect 🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️

Hi Rajesh, glad you enjoyed this video account of mine from a simple, no-fuss eatery in Mangalore, that masala dosae took me right back to Bombay. I remember an eatery called Ratna on SV Road in Goregaon from back then. Not sure if it still exists. Btw, my lunch stop after this breakfast was Maharaja and a delicious repast of the GSB monsoon delicacies. 😋 Take care and thank you for your greetings as always.
Avalakki means kande pohe
You are making me drool, Kripal.
It's my daily evening coffee place. ❤ When did you came here, my bad luck for not able to meet you. Very big fan of your.
What you do after tasting leftover food?? Is it thrown in garbage or u take it packed?? Definitely there won’t be any answer
Yesterday we had been to Vrindavan Inn restaurant in Marar Road, Trichur. Ordered Paneer Dosa. While having it, i thought about how beautifully you would start from cutting it in the middle and begin❤❤

Being the regular visitor of Krishna hotel i can say it has lost its charm after the renovation. Hotel Karthik is way better. Krishna hotel trying to modernize, but Karthik hotel remains rooted to nostalgia.
You look like booozd off with the dose of breakfast quantity.😂
That guy said only buns you added Mangaluru. Hypocrisy. Why add one region name when buns are made in the entire coastal and Malenadu region. You see most of those items in breakfast when you are in North canara and Malenadu as well
@navaneeth4u

I didn't think it was any hypocrisy, something just gets associated with one place although it is made in many places like Mysore Pak. Also we call it manguluru bajji whereas in Chennai they call the same thing as Mysore bajji. Anyways food is universal and just needs to be enjoyed 😊
