    You missed the orange juice in the recipe below the video ;) Yes, it is often the case that a Blood and Sand will go flat because of the orange juice. But once this bit is sorted out, it is a very nice cocktail.

    Thank you for using good single malt scotch in this cocktail. We really need to do away with the snobbish idea that good single malts are never for making cocktails.

    Good idea to use acid-adjusted orange juice in this cocktail. The first time I made this one, I didn't like the way the smoke from the Scotch played with the other ingredients, so I cut the Scotch 50-50 with Irish. I thought it made a better drink, but it wasn't really a Blood and Sand, and it the split base made it more trouble. It's been a few years, though, and I think I'll give it another try with acid-adjusted orange juice and no split base.

    There are definitely nice light non peated Scotches as well - Dewars is a solid unpeated blend 😊

    This is one of my favorite after dinner cocktails. Blood oranges make this drink a little more aesthetically pleasing. Since they are seasonal, I generally juice quite a few of them when they are available and put it in an ice tray. The cubes are about 3/4 of an ounce each and allow me to keep a supply on hand year ‘round. I do have citric acid - can’t wait to try the adjustment! 🍸😄

    Indeed. I was expecting this recipe to include the Sanguinello blood oranges when I saw the title. I ate tons of those oranges in Italy. Amazing.

    fellow bartender here definitely gonna try this out because we have a ton of Glenfiditch and Maccallan that no one orders and a ton of leftover oranges because one of our signature drinks is a smoked old fashioned (using Mango Habanero whiskey)

    Oh, dear...another one that looks perfect for Arizona. I can see I'm going to need to add a bottle of Cherry Heering to my collection. And re-arrange the shelves in my liquor cabinet. Primary spirits are going to have to snuggle up on one shelf as the liqueurs and amari spread out over two.

  • @BehindtheBar

    @BehindtheBar

    Haha well honestly I reckon having more liqueurs and amari give you better range than heaps of different spirits, so it’s just a smart investment 😉

    I don't have a problem as severe as yours - I usually use the oranges left over from garnishing to make a milk clarified cocktail.

    Been a few minutes since I've popped in. Always enjoy your knowledge sharing! I don't keep a lot of liqueurs around the home bar. Could I use a dollop of the Luxardo syrup and maybe increase either the whiskey or vermouth to compensate? Thanks again. Hope you are doing well.

    Yeah for sure! But definitely go easy on the maraschino (I would probably half it) and up the vermouth because maraschino is much drier than the cherry heering 😊

    No need to acid adjust anything, just use less cherry liquor. I personally use 1 oz Scotch, 1 oz Vermouth. 1 oz orange juice and 1/2 oz cherry liquor. It’s not sweet that way.
