Malaysians truly appreciate foreigners who create videos and promote Malaysia to the world. There are many misconceptions about Malaysia that people often have. For example, while Malaysia is officially a secular country, Islam is our official religion. However, we do not adhere to overly conservative practices; instead, we follow our religion moderately. Malaysia is home to Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians. While we do have Shariah law, it only applies to Muslims. Unfortunately, many Westerners mistakenly believe that Malaysia is a strictly Muslim country, and as a result, Islamophobia in the Western world has not helped to dispel these misconceptions. Therefore, we thank you for taking the time to spread accurate information about Malaysia.

Happy New Year to both of you Ryan and Emily. Thank for the lovely video. Malaysia is not perfect but we do our best to the visitors of the country. Some tourists mistakenly thought foreign workers (mostly who couldn't speak English well) as locals and this may give bad impression. Thank you for your kind words about Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia is a diverse country with its own challenges, but it's heartwarming to see the kindness shown by visitors like you. I enjoy helping tourists because it's a way to share my country's hospitality. It's a reciprocal experience, as I've also encountered kindness from strangers during my travels. I do feel the "lies" can sometimes be attributed to the competitors from other countries and some has something to do with local political scenario as well. But that doesn't stop us from being one of the best city and country to visit. I hope you had an enjoyable stay and we would really love to have you back here.

I don't quite agree with that. I am a local too, but I think fellow Malaysians do treat each other nice. Neighbors helping out neighbors is a common thing. Maybe your neighborhood might be a bit different. When you ask for help whether as a Malaysian or as a foreigner, you will get help. When I need help in changing my tires at a petrol station, some Malaysians (who are strangers) came by and help me. I was never raised to treat a foreigner extra special to a Malaysian. I was taught to respect other's differences.

Haven't lived in KL but had the good fortune to spend about 6 weeks there. The people are super friendly, I really can't understand how anyone would say otherwise. Totally agree about the great food and interesting things to do. I also enjoyed the KL bird park and butterfly park when I was there. I can see why someone would say the transportation is not as good as other SE Asian cities though (for example, Singapore). When I was there it was completely common for the LRT lines to only be running short (2-car) trains that were absolutely packed, making it a real effort to squeeze in. Maybe it's gotten better? In any event a great place to visit, very enjoyable.

However, the MRT and Komuter (usually hv 5 or more coaches) are for mass transportation n cover relatively longer distances than the LRT/monorail

I think this is what people mean when they say KL is "boring". They expect it to be a carbon copy of Thailand with a focus on drinking and partying. Thankfully it's not like that side of Thailand. If you're still at the party stage of your life, go to Phuket. Once you mature a little then you'll really enjoy KL!

I've been to KL recently, the people are friendly, but it's true to some extent that the employees of the transit and some bus drivers are very rude towards foreigners, I've faced it multiple times in 2 weeks being shouted at for being new to the city. But even amount the employees and bus drivers there are some people with hearts of gold. A few people having a bad day doesn't mean everybody is like that. I even had a cab driver shout at me for being late for pickup but apologized by the end of the ride after they realized i didn't do it on purpose. It's just the attitude of workers who deal with a lot of public interfacing needs to be friendly, that's the only missing gap

Markham (Canada) is basically a suburb of Toronto and aside from chain restaurants, is Chinese food and little else. This makes the rest of the list rather suspicious and biased. Toronto itself should rank given the cosmopolitan multicultural city it is. As for your overall assessment of KL, I’d generally agree with your assessment and critique. Just came back from a few days there and aside from the disgrace the airport terminal has fallen into from my previous visits, it was easy to get around by public transit or Grab. True a few attractions required a short walk from a station (and signage is very poor for directions between several interchanges) but that’s normal in many other cities too. I find KL to be much like Singapore in the ‘80s before the boom and absurd inflation in the cost of hotels and dining (except for local hawker centres).

Thanks for watching the video! We didn't have problems with insects, but we were always very careful about keeping food stored properly and taking out the garbage. We did see a mouse once when we stayed in an old historic apartment in Georgetown. The weather is hot all year except in Cameron Highlands where it is very pleasant. Traffic can be heavy, especially in Kuala Lumpur, but the nice thing about KL is the train system, which avoids any traffic issues. Hope that helps, thanks again for watching!

Iv'e lived in Malaysia for about 18 months, and i must say you are both right and wrong, my point of view is: 1. Malaysians are very friendly and social 2. It is cheap to live in for westerners 3. KL does not have much to do except going to the mall or restaurants, once you've seen Batu Caves and KLCC, there is nothing much else spectacular to do and there not many nice neighborhoods you can walk around in. I personally think cities like Bangkok, Da Nang or Shanghai in Asia are much more exciting to visit. 4. The transport system is not great at all, the stations are linked in a weird way and it is very time consuming to get around, for me a car is a must in KL unless your job and all the amenities you need are within walking distance. 5. Food is delicious but it is not the best in the world, i prefer Rome, Paris and London for example, but it might be the best city in the world to eat cheap, with so much variety!

I agree that the transportation connection is time consuming....but wait till MRT3 is finished, then we talk about this again... As for places to visit and things to do, as a place that is relatively new as it was built up in the late 1800s, it seems a little dull compare to Bangkok where it has like thousand years old of history, but you can practically go to the suburbs or to the next city within an hour drive frm the city and experience places like paddy fields in Kuala selangor - sg besar stretch, hiking trains in and around (the suburbs) the city such as bukit wawasan, bukit tabur, bukit lagong, bukit saga,kemensah....several waterfalls to take a dip in (kanching, sofea Jane in kemensah, so pisang in gombak, Hulu langat, ulu yam), hot springs (sg. Klah, bentong) camping/glamping in Janda baik or Batang Kali). Theme parks, such as sunway lagoon, riverine splash @ amverton, splashmania@gamuda cove, i-city Shah alam... extreme park in Shah alam....fireflies, blue tears and many more.... There are museums galore, from a textile museum to a police museum and a museum dedicated to the indigenous people in Gombak. There is also agro-tourism such as a fruit orchard, selangor fruit valley Mah meri Cultural Village in pulau carey. Oh yes, how about Kampung Baru, a traditional village smack dab in the center of kl.

Kl only has tropical forest around it and not a mega city like shanghai or Bangkok in terms of population. Comparing to da nang does not make sense. KL is not next to a beach nor a huge river like shanghai. We hv nature and wild animals. Have you seen wild animals in vietnam? So they have their attractions, we hv ours. We are the top 17 countries with mega diversity listed by UN. Depends what interest you. Bangkok is considered the entertainment spot for sure eg clubbing, bars, massage.

@@keangwooichoo6138 I am speaking from a perspective of a foreigner coming to visit KL as a tourist, the food is great, and there is some sightseeing to do, but most foreigners wont leave the city as they will use public transport. Plus a lot of nature is not promoted to tourists so they dont even know that these things exist. And there is a huge lack of nice parks and pedestrian areas, in comparison to other major cities. And as a European, what appeals mostly to most of us when visiting Asia is: 1. Sunny weather 2. Nice beaches 3. Temples and cultural architecture 4. Exploring a different culture 5. Good food 6. Great nature For me, KL ticks only 1 or 2 of these boxes. Its a nice city to visit, but nothing exceptional and far behind the greatest cities in my opinion.

@nicklasprince it is like saying if I go to Zurich or lucerne or basel or zermatt, I won't go to interlaken as it is outside the city. Likewise animals do not live in a city, they are wild. You move over to national parks or borneo. Sometimes I feel relief if tourists know less of our beaches as we locals can enjoy it more(not crowded). You cannot expect to walk out of the hotel in kl to find beaches as those beautiful beaches are in islands. The city has many parks. Including butterfly and bird park(one of the largest in the world) if you care to Google. Forested areas are like kanching waterfalls, templer's park. If you care to Google. All you need to do is ask people(locals). Kl is not only batu caves. That is not the only temple. Batu caves is not even in kl. It is in a state called selangor.
