I would say being snubbed by The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is the most rock & roll thing that could happen. Because the HOF is the least R&R thing in the world. They routinely snub the most rock & roll acts. They're a joke.

You need to go to the acronym Hall of Fame. I heard it's in R.I.
Weird Al is one of two artists that I've actually gone to see in concert. I absolutely cannot hear any of the songs he's parodied without his lyrics anymore. Honestly, I thought *_I Lost On Jeopardy_* was an original song until this year.

1) I've also seen Al in concert 2) While many artists have given their approval for Al to lampoon their hit songs, Greg Kihn actually appeared in the video for I Lost On Jeopardy which parodies Greg's song (Our Love's In) Jeopardy!

I thought the same about Bohemian Polka at first. I also saw Al in concert, with my best friend, back in 2000. Best part was when he did part of Grapefruit Diet. When he pointed the microphone to our section of the audience, my friend and I were seemingly the only ones who shouted, "Diet!" back at him, and he looked right at us in surprise - as if to say "Wow, really? Just you two?", as he continued singing.

@@TheRockinDonkeyit’s definitively the best studio version of that guitar riff, because it sounded so much more aggressive than the original. Also, Dweezil Zappa played guitar in the style of his father on Genius in France, because Frank Zappa was a huge influence on Al and every other nerdy white guy that age. (Including my Dad, who is the same age as Al, and looked like they were stamped out of the same mold back in the day.) Genius in France is actually an extremely brilliant style parody of Zappa, and if you’re familiar with his work, there’s little things scattered throughout it that are very Zappa, but also very Al, and with the ability to look back with perfect hindsight you can understand where his influence crept into a lot of Al’s earlier work.
I really enjoyed this video. I just want to point out something everybody overlooks. I saw Al being interviewed by Dan Rather and he explained that he was seriously bullied in school and that's why his mother watched him with binoculars. It wasn't just because she was over protective. Being 2 years younger than everybody made him a target for kids that put him into trash cans and forced him to give them his lunch money. I like your video editing, btw and Summer Woods music is great.

I think Mary and Nick did the best they could. From their perspective, Lynnwood was kind of becoming a dangerous place around that time. Even so, that sheltered upbringing had an effect I think a lot of people can probably relate to. There's no "right answer" in parenting. Thanks for the comment and for watching. Good, thoughtful discussions inspired by Al are always welcome. :)

@@sebastianshepherd3614 my parents were like this, our elementary and middle school was literally down our street like not even a mile away well they wouldn't let us ride our bicycle's to school alone. They drove alongside us to make sure we were safe. Even when we were in middle school and older my parents were very watchful.
Somehow "the movie, UHF" and "failure" just don't register in the same conversation to me. UHF will ALWAYS be one of my favorite movies.
When Al reenacts Jim Morrisons famous drunk onstage rant, I knew I was watching top level comedy. Edit- When you mentioned Al was done with food songs, it makes Foil even more genius because it STARTS as a food parody, then goes wonderfully dark.
He’s sold over 12 million albums. That’s a pretty great legacy.
i have to say that the same thing with weird al and being generally misunderstood or seen as a "one-hit wonder" also applies to other artists as well. a great example of this is DEVO, always the same questions in interviews, only famous for one song but have done much better in their fourth dimensional satire. great video by the way! long live al.
@sebastianshepherd3614

Have you ever seen the video of DEVO performing at Kent State? It was like they had traveled to the future and brought the 80s back to the 70s.
"he who is tired of weird Al is tired of life" - Homer Simpson It is amazing how weird Al can have such a resounding popularity among the public and a ton of cameos and voice acting parts without having any "official" awards for it, but in a way, that is the beauty about him. Legend says that the reason Kurt Cobain killed himself was because he was afraid his music was becoming too commercial, which is what a punk rocker trying to always be on the outside, fighting the system, should be afraid of. In a way, weird Al is always walking the thin line between being an extremely popular artist, while not being recognised for it and always staying on the outside, but without being so edgy, anti establishment about it. Also, remember when COVID hit, and all the socially inept actors sang "imagine", or saying "we are all in this together" from within their million dollar mansions? Weird Al put one video: his accordion rendition of Classical Gas by Tommy Emmanuel, just to remind us that beyond being a master parodist and an unexpectedly great rapper, he can take a break and just play amazingly complicated musical pieces
"Making deliberate eyes at Prince" I nearly died laughing. I commend you for calling out the constant repetition of those SAME. FOUR. QUESTIONS!!! that His Royal Peculiarity must be beyond exhausted of answering yet again when they inevitably rear their lazy, uninspired heads.
I love Al's New movie! I've watched it at least 10 times already! I don't care what anyone says. The movie is a timeless masterpiece and I REALLY HOPE it comes out on DVD and/ or blue ray. It deserves a spot on my wall of best movies ever!

Saying the 'Weasel Stomping Day' is about animal cruelty is not inaccurate, but also a very shallow interpretation. It's a song about the arcane, divisive, and sometimes cruel thing people do in the name of tradition.
I have been a hardcore fan of Al since I heard Eat It and Another One Rides The Bus. I got to see him live in 1985, and I loving love that he is getting so much attention today. And the “Yo Ding Dong, Man” is a test we give anyone trying to join my cool kids table. That and “Dental Plan (Lisa needs braces)”.

I had an aunt Dot, my mother's side. My mother was pretty much a lonely child (being her brother was 14 years older than her) her parents had her later in their lives living in Torrance California. My mother played accordion when she was a kid and is now 67. There's Too Many on these things are WAY to similar. XD
Weird Al is the Three Stooges of our time but especially my age group. He's a true icon and hopefully will be making parodies for a long time to come.
I've yet to see the movie. But, I contend that Weird Al Yankovic is the greatest writer of our time. There are few people to have ever lived that grasp such a mastery of the English language. He is, in no uncertain terms, The GOAT.

@@sebastianshepherd3614 I'm with him. 103 subscribers is a crime. This was extremely well put together. I mean, if you're taking random requests, then Tom Waits. There are way too few in depth videos about Tom Waits online, whether it be the jazz years, the Island experimentals, or even just focusing on his more spoken word songs. I'd watch basically any amount of Tom Waits content that someone wants to put out there. Just a thought.
I’m so glad that Al didn’t adopt the crips or whatever gang and turned into the weird Al we know!

Coolio did give him permission to parody Gangsta’s Paradise. But once he heard it, he didn’t like it. Once they made up, he regretted being mad at Weird Al.
hows this guy only got 400 subs
The straight answer to the abstract schism of ( oxymoron ) between ( ' The Wizard of Oz vs Pleasantville ' // ' black & white vs color tv ' ) is a maritime Alfred in a breached 4th wall of communications straight out of Adam Wests utility belt boy wonder ! - Did somebody say " you cant make this stuff up " - ?
I'm a big fan of I Think I'm a Clone Now, and nobody else seems to be. I never hear anyone mention it, and when I mention it no one ever knows what I'm taking about. But at least "I can stay at home while I'm out of town".
The reason Weird Al isn't in the rock n roll hall of fame is because he's better than the rock n roll hall of fame.

Really well done! If I may offer a piece of constructive criticism, sometimes the backing music makes it a little hard to focus on your narration. Maybe mix it a little bit quieter? Your narration is clear and easy on the ears but I find that the lyrics are a little distracting. Great song choice, though.
