    Ronda Rousey is also one of the most lacking of sportsmanship athletes I have ever seen. Going back to her first fight with Miesha... after she popped Miesha's arm, you can see Ronda change position with both of her hands and push Miesha's arm the wrong direction before the Ref could jump in to stop her. The Ref actually had to grab her arm/hands to stop her. Ronda said she was wanting to end Tate's Career. This to me is TOTALLY unprofessional, yes, this is a combat sport.... but they are all Professional Athletes, and that is not professional and was totally uncalled for. That would be the exact same as if a Football Player purposely went after Aaron Roger's knees in an attempt to end his career. How long would someone last in the NFL if they did something as dirty as that? We have seen Ronda's lack of Sportsmanship and disrespect for her fellow athletes over and over again, whether it is her actions before the fights, during the fights or after the fight is over. From not respectfully touching gloves, to punching after the bell, not shaking hands when someone tries to congratulate her, not congratulating a New Champion, getting in a smaller fighter's face when all the smaller fighter did was tell the new Champion "congrats". If Ronda had beaten Amanda, Ronda would have already done 43 interviews telling us how great she is, yet, she could not even be bothered to show up to the Post Fight Press Conference? It is not like she really had anything better to do is it? And since the fight, she has addressed her fans not one time? I know people who used to be fans of her (hehe, people who I have much debated with about her), that are now totally the opposite. That right there shows everyone where Ronda Rousey's heart really was . . . and it was not with her fans.

None of the Gracie would be as arrogant and foolish. Not even mentioning the massive difference in achievements. Although you are correct, in your assessment of RR being the "most important" female fighter to date, you are missing or not addressing the biggest argument against this label or title being given to her...And that is "HOW or WHY" she was the most important. And that was because she was built up be, by the marketing machine and the media. The critics of RR's status, knew! absolutely knew! she was extremely one dimensional. Those that roll jitz, had serious questions about her ground skills beyond the spider web/arm bar, cross over boxing fans had serious questions about her striking and because all we ever saw, and researching her Judo days had serious questions about her wrestling (i.e. could she shoot an effective single/double leg if the upper body clinch was taken away from her?") kick boxing heads, asked, what if you attack her legs? there were huge holes!!!! however, those of us that pointed them out were dismissed as "haters". Further, alot like Elvis gets so much credit for Rock-n-roll, while ignoring those that ACTUALLY blazed that trail, RR is a media darling and history was revised to make her a "pioneer" in women's MMA. you mentioned Gina and Cyborg yourself, both women that had already grabbed the attention of MMA fans, both men and women. Further, i have to disagree, with your technical assessment of her fights pre-Holm. Betch (sp?) was not the best striker she faced, that was Tate. And if you watch their 2nd fight, you will see how Tate's rudimentary footwork and striking WAS getting to RR. I think the major tactical mistake Tate made, was trying to take RR down, shooting in and getting reversed, time and time again. This fight, more than any other, showed me, RR foot work and striking was extremely flawed, and when i begin to question all the hype. And i have to disagree with you that the UFC gave RR their best, they did not, they shielded RR, gave her fights that were good matchups for her style, and kept fighters that were bad for her style out of the UFC for as long as they could, i.e. Holm. Holm should have been offered a reasonable UFC contract a least a before she was offered one......Long and short, RR was a media creation, and i even question if she is a legit fighter, and not just an athlete that was spoon fed good matchups for a moment in time to make a quick buck.

    I have been saying all of that starting before she was ever even in the UFC.... and arguing it with the Ronda Fanboys ever since. LOL I could see in the FIRST Miesha Tate fight how she could not take punches.... go back and look how she reacted when Miesha connected with her in the face. I know Miesha lost to Ronda twice, but if they fought again, I would bet on Miesha because or Miesha learning from her mistakes.

Or another possibility is that you have to remember when she became champion womens mma was still in its early stage and I think that her competition was improving whilst she remained the same. Also I think after her first loss not only was she never the same again, she got a hell of a lot more worse

    BJJ wasn’t a match for her Olympic level judo. No Olympic level wrestler or judo player is going to be threatened by a BJJ athlete on the ground. The only reason why Ronda is a big star is because she's a pretty face who had an inflated fighting record. She was dominating when the competition in the UFC for women was shit. As soon as other top level female athletes like Holly Holm started entering the UFC, her days were numbered. She will go down in history as a hype train that got derailed and fell off a 100 ft cliff. People talk about how she's done so much for the sport of women's mma, I have to laugh at that because that is not her intention at all. She doesn't give a shit about anyone else but her, this was extremely evident by her attitude and bad sportsmanship.

    That's not what i'm doing..the point i'm making is that people act like Ronda was just fighting a bunch of nobodies and push overs before she got to Holly & Nunes ignoring the fact that Nunes came into the UFC with 3 losses the same year as Ronda and Holly couldn't defend her title against someone Rousey walked all over. If she's been skating by because the competition was shit than why have all the champions of that division fought virtually the same people but Rousey faired better? Holm is the only relatively new fighter to hold that Bantamweight belt. Tate had like 5-6 L's going into that fight with her.

  • @hyroproto4364

    @hyroproto4364

    Citizen Caine > true. The point is Ronda is probably the best grappler in women's division. Even now, she would humiliate Pena if they ever fought. Ex- Maia. He has employed no striking in the last 5-6 of his fights. But he is walking all over other fighters. Likewise, almost all the fighters except Beth were grapplers or grappling heavy. So being the best grappler in both the women's divisions, she dominated. If Ronda had not believed her own hype on being a boxer & decided to play to her strength like Maia did against Condit, she should've won against Holm. We saw Holm making mistakes against Misha when it comes to grappling & paying for it. Imagine Maia deciding to strike with Condit instead. He would've gotten KOed too. It was what Alvarez did against Conor. Total brain fart.

    I'll give my reasons why I think she's incredibly overrated and does not even deserve to be in the conversation of GOAT (although such conversions are a bit of a watse of time, in my opinion). Because she's never had to evolve, learn, adapt or even to gameplan. The gameplan in most of her fights seemed to be: I'll just run at her! And she was in a division where that kind of gameplan worked. None of her opponents figured to sidestep or pivot or stiff-arm before Holly Holm. On top of her lack of gameplans and basic understanding of fighting, she also never really picked up new skills. She's been practicing boxing for years and the she barely knew how to throw a punch. Her fight with Correria was some of the most sloppy striking I've ever seen. Her Judo is great, but if a fighter can cary their whole career on just one aspect of the game, they're simply in the right place at the right time.

    She was always on a countdown to being exposed. Credit where it's due; she brought a lot of attention to women's MMA, and opened a lot of doors, and she should be remembered for that. However, let's be real; it was never the truth. Even before she fought Holly Holm, the holes in her game were obvious, but her judo skills disguised that. Did she EVER: Throw a kick that hurt anyone? Close to a clinch without eating punches? Or slip a punch? Do a legit takedown? Not a clinch to a throw, but a wrestling single or double leg? Throw combinations? Not just brawler style? I could go on, but my point is that she was never a well rounded fighter. She is what she is; an elite judoka who also throws punches occasionally. She was always on the path to being exposed by a fighter with good movement and striking skills, and who wasn't trying to out-judo her. It's a case study in someone believing their own hype, and being lied to.

Years ago, I said that IF Cyborg was ever able to make it to 135, Ronda would immediately "ttake time off to work on her acting career".... THAT was her plan for after the Holly Holm fight, because she knew that when she beat Holly, people would be asking her to fight Cyborg. Holly just threw a wrench in her plans by beating her down.

She just doesn't have the mental stability it takes and she didn't have the training she needed to evolve . She really couldn't help who they through at her, but once women's MMA caught up and more talent flooded her division she couldn't hold on she had no stand up at all. As far as Misha Tate I think she is good tough and more well rounded then the credit you gave her. One thing about Misha is she has heart and that's big that's something Rhonda was missing. Rhonda has the physical skills, but she just never sharpened them like other fighters she was to one dimensional.

    Ronda was a paper champion plain and simple. She was marketable and the UFC used her to make money for their company. They gave her the belt at a press conference like you said because they didn't want to risk her losing in a tournament aka The ultimate fighter show. They gave her opponents that they knew she could beat to keep the money train rolling. As soon as Ronda started talking about retiring at 30 I personally feel they gave her Holly holm, because they knew Holly had the style to beat her. and they knew if Ronda lost that it would be a super fight that would generate millions. Holm spoiled their plans by not waiting for Ronda and eventually losing to Tate. Im pretty sure the UFC wasn't happy about that. lol

    They gave her opponents they knew she could beat? They gave all the other champions of that division the same opponents and they lost. Holly is the only relatively new fighter to hold that belt and she lost to Tate.

    I always questioned with Holly took a dive in the Tate fight . She is excellent in keeping the distance and her footwork and the sleeper almost looked staged . I could be wrong . But that happening all the way at the end of the fifth . will never know . There are fixes all over .UFC trainers have told me this . I have been in the fight game a long time . have seen at lot . Fighting is all about illusion . Only believe maybe half if what you see . This whole Ronda craze personally got on my nerves . I never cared to watch her until her ass was handed to her . Its her dumb fans that know nothing about the arts . I have a hobby now to comment and push their buttons . They are the ones that go to work drink their goddam beer and let all our rights get taken away to such a point I have been driven out of my country . I would LOVE to know how it's possible to be a "paper champion" when you've CRUSHED the best in your promotion's division until the competition finally caught up. She was - without debate - THE champion, until she wasn't. That's how this works, you become the champion, you ARE the champion, until you lose the championship. Nothing paper about that.

    I give you props for saying she was beating what they had and that's the problem. Until the Holms and Numdes came around she fought average fighters who complimented her style of fighting. This was by design, with UFC, her camp, etc. The only issue I have with her career was that once she realized she wasnt as skilled as she thought with real competition. Instead of improving, she just went eff-it. Thats what I'm disappointed about. In her last fight, she literally was there to be a punching bag, get pinned or submitted and collect a paycheck. She was very important to the sport and levitating female sports but a GOAT, nah, she was the best they had at that short time.

    I agree with your assessment. Rhonda Rousey lost because her ego was blown way out of proportion as evidenced by her final two losses. She was an unskilled striker but she thought she could beat those who had superior striking skills and made very poor judgments. Also, her coach was a complete idiot who got caught up in her limelight. Simply compare Edmund to Holly Holm’s coaches .... night and day.

    Ronda was fed people they knew she could beat, besides Miesha(who really is not that good), one of her best opponents was only in MMA 4 years and got into it as a way to stay in shape and lose some weight (not a professional fighter).... There are fighters that Ronda avoided fighting, with the help of Dana White picking her fights.... Dana White even said in one interview WHY he chose the Holly Holm fight.... he said, "Holly Holm is not ready for a Title Fight and not ready for Ronda, but no one wants to see Rousey/Tate 3." Dana, nor Ronda did not want to see Tate again. Dana knew that Miesha had improved, learned from her past mistakes, and also had not lost a fight in almost 2 years. So... Dana made the fight because he thought it was going to be another good, easy fight for Ronda. If Dana had one little inkling that Holly WAS ready for Ronda.... then that fight would have never been made.

    2:31 I have to disagree that Cyborg is the best in women's MMA. She may be the most powerful and the scariest, but in my opinion Joanna is a much more technical and well rounded fighter. Cyborg may be better on the ground or in the clinch because she's so strong, but Joanna is good enough in all areas to implement her game and just pick people apart. All of that just my opinion though, anyone else have any thoughts?

    Ronda's judo and Olympic experience should count towards her career length too, and adding her amateur career makes her a 'life long' competitor. Also, Cat Zingano tko'd Amanda Nunes, but Ronda made Cat tapout in 14 seconds! How are you going to knock on her opponents? "Not really too impressive." Really? Ronda is the reason that these female strikers even exist. They needed to learn how to avoid grappling, defend arm-bars, and develop 'fight ending' strikes. Ronda was so dominate that these other women had years to train this way. Also, Judo is effective in mma, it is a powerful counter to the thai clench (think Zingano), and Judokas can counter the double-leg takedown with 'high hip' slams (like Rousey did to every wrestler that ever tried to shoot on her). I don't think this was un-biased at all. I think you're hating.

    Ronda Rousey is one of the worse losers I can recall in combat sports, but also an undeniable legend and is super hall of fame worthy. Yes, she had a bad end to her career but hey, didn't Mike Tyson, Chuck Liddell, Muhammed Ali and almost all other combat sports athletes. Okay, so it was a short career, but you have to put it in perspective. In the early days of MMA the level of competition was nowhere near the level of MMA today, but you don't say "Randy Couture sucks because if you compare his level of competition to today's its low". That would be silly. women's MMA is relatively new and the level of competition is still much lower then the men's. When Ronda Rousey came stirring up women's MMA it was not at the level it is today and she truly was the best at the time. A problem with being the best is, it's hard to know where you need to improve, meanwhile the whole division is learning how to either match your strengths or learning to avoid them all together. I'm not going to go into why or bringing up her coach or what not, because this comment is way too long as it is. My point is she was once the best and now isn't. What she did for women's MMA and MMA as a whole, popularising it and bringing it to the mainstream on the scale she did, is simply undeniable. To say "oh, she was over hyped" is just silly and one of those hindsight is 20/20 things. I'm sure you were into the hype as much as everyone else. To be honest, with the reaction of the whole world to that loss, on the scale that it was, I don't think most people could handle that. That's just my opinion not the truth.

    Nicely rounded, and relatively objective take. Just 2 things that bare mentioning; Firstly, on the Judo front, I feel Karo Parisyan, Yoshihiro Akiyama, Yushin Okami, Hector Lombard, Dong Hyun Kim, even Tim Boetsch, along with others, have shown the effectiveness of Judo appropriately blended with other techniques. Also, I agree that the media and UFC's promotional strength played a huge part in Ronda's rise to popularity and fame. Along with her dominant performances against "unprepared" opponents. But the key component that briefly shot her into the pop-culture stratosphere, and that polarised people into loving or hating her, I feel, is the things she said and the way she said them. Ronda's rants on female body image, the whole DNB campaign, her book, and her overtly no compromise attitude, made Ronda into this iconic figure that you either couldn't stand, or were utterly inspired by. Really enjoying the content so far. Keep it up bro. 🥊

    Funny how you insinuate that Cyborg is the best. A steroid user can't be the best. The fact that other fighters evolved and surpassed Ronda does not change the FACT that for her division, Ronda was the best. Everyone else knew that Ronda was the champ and had years to gameplan for her, to see where she was weak. Almost EVERY single champ falls as the sport evolves past them. You're just kicking her while she is down.

  • @TheWeasleMMA

    @TheWeasleMMA

    7 жыл бұрын

    By that logic, Anderson Silva can never be the best either. If you read about Cyborg's story and the part when she did get caught with PEDs a while ago, it is not as basic as she just wanted to cheat. I did mention that Ronda was the best in her division during that time. Here's the biggest part that you're missing, she is younger than everyone else during that time. She evolved past the fighters she was competing against, right? But why couldn't she progress and evolve like Nunes did who has been fighting much longer than she has? I did explain why in the video and it was herself and the people around her that was keeping her from evolving forward while Nunes made the decision to leave her gym after the Zingano lost, which kept her as a one-dimensional BJJ fighter, and went to one of the best gyms in the world, ATT, and completely revamped her game. I'm not kicking anyone when they are down, I'm just being honest. The first half of the video I was giving her props and giving my take on where she is above the rest but, truthfully, she is not the best fighter and never really was in all of WMMA.

    Keith Aipperspach she's coachable. She's just too loyal to bad coaches.

    Bebop palooka - IF you think that Ronda IS coachable.... Explain why in over SEVEN YEARS ... Ronda STILL has not even learned the Basic Fundamentals? Even after they have brought in specialists, Olympic Boxers, etc. to try and help her. Her coach is not the "only" person who has tried to teach her.... or are you saying that every single person they have brought in, is not capable of teaching anything?

    Keith Aipperspach I suppose you know better than Ronda's own mother who never liked Edmond and accused him of being lazy with Ronda years before she lost. I suppose her success in Judo came not as the result of excellent coaching, but the natural ability that every white American woman possesses in the sport 😆

    Bebop palooka - you are thinking you are being slick by not answering my question and just deflecting..... Answer my question, then I will reply to you about Ronda's mother.

    I guess everyone has an opinion. Here is mine: she was the best I ever saw UNTIL she stepped out of her own wheelhouse. When she tried to prove she was a "striker" as well as grapler-THAT is when she lost, and only then. Her initial loss, IMO, would not have happened had she stayed in her--unstoppable wheelhouse. Just as she could not compete with Holly's kicks and punches, I doubt Holly could have kept up with her Judo, which was--second to none.

    Thanks for giving a shout to my girl, the beautiful Ms.Gina- at least she had the balls to fight cyborg and was actually somewhat competitive. She didn't duck her liek some people...

    Kinda reminds you of the Gracie scheme. Fight inexperienced grapplers and then when real competition comes along you disappear. Very familiar...

    I think you're spot-on in your appraisal of Rhonda Rousey's fight-style, opponents and legacy. Extremely accurate!

    You are Spot On. One of the best - yes. Important - yes. The best?? How could an athlete be considered the best when they get completely outclassed 2 fights in a row while healthy and in their prime? And the way she cowered after both beatings was worse than the losses. I would never support any for-profit endeavor she's attached to ever.

    When Ronda came into the ufc I was completely hooked. I bought into the hype hook line and sinker. Your take on her career is, with a heavy heart, spot on. Don’t get me wrong I will always be a huge fan of hers, but more so with the fact that she opened so many doors for the woman in mma and the ufc today. I think she actually could have been a much more well rounded and effective fighter if she had a totally different training team. Who knows she still might have stayed in the sport a little bit longer. Her training team was probably the worst there was. They never truly saw the potential to mold a much more well rounded fighter. To me, their egos were bigger than hers.

    Good video! I don't that much about women's UFC to comment on who's the best. However Rhonda was exposed so badly It had me stuck watching it over and over in disbelief.
