rocky early on expressed that he was influenced by the houston sound, but travis is from houston. travis' sound was always more gritty and punk while rocky's was always more hazy and smooth i think that when rocky began to lose interest in music (around 2015), there was room for travis to really grow and reach superstardom. a void was left behind when rocky started doing more fashion stuff imo the only "competition" i saw between the two was that they presented themselves as a "jack of all trades," which at the time only kanye was really doing. interestingly, during this 2011-2015 era, tyler the creator was doing the same, and imo has fulfilled the role at a higher level
