Trumpet Fundamentals | First Attacks

Музыка

In this video, we're discussing how to become more consistent with your first attacks on the trumpet, and why it's important to hone this skill. I've put a lot of effort into making my first attacks more consistent throughout the pandemic, and it's made a huge impact in my ability to play more consistently overall. I hope this video is helpful for those of you that struggle with this.

Really love this, Ryan. Going to get to work on it. (Btw, killer job on the Penny Lane solo at the last Alabama Symph Beatles concert! It was a pleasure to witness!)

Thanks! That show was really fun. I hope it all sounded good on the audiences side. It’s so hard to tell where I was sitting.

I've been tinkering with some of these ideas in my own playing recently -- how to get more front to the note, both at pp as well as ff. thanks for the suggested exercise! Do you know any of the old Gerard Schwarz solo albums? He demonstrates some remarkable articulation clarity on those recordings.

My pleasure.. keep in touch about how it goes! I definitely know those albums you're talking about. I agree with you, among other things, they are a great resource for modeling articulation.

I haven’t heard of those. Doesn’t surprised me someone way smarter than me figured this out a long time ago!

hi ryan, i have this problem of having too much front on the start of my notes, is there anyway that i can help get rid of this and make the front of my notes less heavy?

I literally just saw this comment. Without hearing you, it’s hard to gauge. But, my guess is that your air isn’t forward enough, or the coordination isn’t clear enough, so you’re having to work harder to get the air out. Try focusing on getting a clear ping at the front and let that create the volume/energy, and ease up on the overall effort.
