Believe me I make sure everyone around me knew this.

I was an American living in China in 2020. It was VERY serious in January for us. And I’d watch the US news and Trump would talk about it in January as if he had everything under control. Flights started to get canceled and my parents were calling me EVERYDAY, telling me to come home. I left China on February 3rd because the Consulate told us it was best for us to go back home. On arrival, I was not tested for covid; they didn’t even test my temperature. I was SHOCKED and afraid that I might be infected so I decided to quarantine myself for 2 weeks before I went to my family. While I watched the US news from China, Trump talked a big game. But when I arrived home, I saw absolutely ZERO action. This absolutely could’ve been handled differently; but I’m not surprised Trump acted in a selfish and immature way.

I get impatient with the way Ari interrupts interviewees before they can finish their thoughts, or stops them so he can throw in some rap trivia, but this was a fine, thorough interview. I've heard Bob Woodward on quite a few programs, and this one was really helpful in my understanding of the tapes.

That is because despite spending all of his first three years boasting about the healthy economy he inherited as if he was the reason for it, he put the health of the economy and his re-election chances ahead of the health of the people. If like Trump, he put all of his eggs in one basket and that was the only good thing he had to talk up, he would not want to do anything and take measures that might be to the good overall but to the detriment to that one good thing, as that was all he had. The ultimate irony is his actions (or lack of) still tanked the economy anyway and cost him the 2020 election, yet one million Americans had to needlessly die for him to find out that would be the case.

There is no doubt that America is a better country to live in right now because we don’t have Trump as president anymore.

When Trump did hold his hate rallies, I think he was the only person in the entire country having big meetings. And he didn't want them socially distancing because that made the crowd look sparse. No concerts, no work conferences, no travel, no NBA games, no weddings, no funerals. Hollywood movies shut down, Vegas went dark, Times Square was empty, and Broadway was closed. Britney Spears, Rihanna, Beyonce, Billy Joel, Taylor Swift, The Rolling Stones... No performances. But Trump had his rallies!!

This 41 minute special should have been 3 hours, perhaps spread out over 2 or 3 days. Woodward had more to say that Ari, the host, had to squeeze into a tight-fitting time span. A more thorough analysis of Trump's malfeasance would have been genuinely meaningful and historically significant.

I was so NOT shocked. I appreciate the depth of feeling in your comnent, but honestly, there were about 35-40% of Americans who immediately and completely saw who tRump was and were not even a little bit surprised when he showed himself. I AM/have been surprised, however, to see how slow moderates and independents have been to get the memo and really get it. Of course it's disgusting to see how refractory the MAGA faithful are to seeing reality, but less surprising.
