I think the writers intended for this scene to be a tactical mess, the cops were intentionally fed wrong intel by the corrupt politicians of that city. But the show could have hired more capable technical advisors. Rachel McAdams needed more time with real firearms at the range, she was aiming her Sig towards the ground! The bad guy's AK never run out of ammo!

I love this scene, it's intense, brutal and well done. But definitely unreal. First, the cops go on a raid with no superior firepower, no rifles, no support, no swat, it's just silly. Secondly, all the bad guys shoot without even looking through the sights and somehow manage to kill almost all the cops. The cops shoot right but can't hit them even if they don't have cover. and I also like that Woodrugh has a pistol with a smaller magazine capacity than any other officer, but at the same time he manages to reload less than others, and shoot more;)

Trying to point out any irrationality in this scene is more ridiculous, because how often shit goes wrong because of cops not following protocol or cartel members being cartel members. If it was a scene about cops fucking around during the school shooting, you would cry about it being unrealistic, but here we are in Uvalde. What this scene does is characterises three main characters. Ray is a mess broken by wife/son situation, crooked cop routine and alcohol who struggles to load a pistol, Ani keeps herself a little better due to paranoia and training, but still don't have much experience and finally Paul who's very much familiar with gunfights due to him being a veteran. I completely agree with ya! It's funny how many comments here bashing the scene due to it being so unrealistic and how awful the tactics were on the part of the cops.. While it's certainly true that it is pretty unrealistic and over the top, it's still more realistic than the vast majority of shootouts depicted in film and TV over the last few decades. They're all acting as if this is somehow beyond the pale, when it's not even close. I mean - it's as if these commenters haven't watched many shootouts/fire-fights in film or TV. I find these people annoying as hell, especially because most are extremely inconsistent when it comes to applying these "realism standards". Cuz if they were, then they wouldn't like the majority of action/war films and series

So... police don't keep radios on them just so they can look extra badass waddling down the middle of the road for a midday raid on a suspected drug warehouse. Machine pistol guy unlocked the unlimited ammo cheat, they don't even try to hide that. Also cars somehow magically soak up 9mm and 7.62 rounds. At least Breaking Bad would try and keep their shootouts in the realm of possible.

Yeah I especially enjoyed the 7.62 ammo bouncing off of the dumpster and cars.. IRL those rounds would of torn 1/2 dollar sized holes through them all... I've seen 1/4" and 3/8" thick aluminum traffic control cabinets take hits from 9MM projectiles and just leave a pretty good dent, with no penetration, but that 7.62 ammo is much more vibrant and would definitely pass through it with no issues. Whom ever they hired for weapon information needs to be replaced... I can't wait to see what their silenced weapons sound like.....

Holy shit, I can't believe everone is missing the point of this. First of all, all you Tactical Timmies out there, yes, this scene depicts a very poorly handled situation with a lot of poor marksmanship and poor tactics. This puts it about on par with most large, officer-involved shootings *in real life*. Read enough reporting on OIS - shit, watch the body cam footage; it's all online now - and you'll discover that most shootings have one or more officers mag-dumping hostile/armed individuals, and further investigation usually finds only a handful of actual hits. Second, most of the officers in this scene are with the Vinci Police Department, which is shown to be a very small and extremely corrupt department in the show. Most of its officers are probably not Officer Joe Friendly, supercop. They're not going to the range every week and attending training to brush up on their tactics and unit cohesion. Most of them are probably taking bribes and turning a blind eye to whatever the criminal element in their sector is up to. When they walk into the briefing before this, most of them probably thought it would be a routine roust, they'd pinch some scumbags in return for some slight against the department, said scumbags would bail out, and the cycle would continue next week because that's their way of life. Third, the entire shootout was a fucking set-up. The Vinci PD's command staff was in on the crime the protagonists are investigating, and the whole point of sending them in was to get the detectives killed. This is hinted at in the beginning when Teague (I think that's his name) asks why they don't just wait until Amarillo, the guy they're there to arrest, comes out, and Ani says, "Bosses say take 'em now." Is it unrealistic that the detectives survive and literally everyone else dies? Absolutely, but it's not a documentary. They're trying to tell a good story, not blow you away with authentic police procedures, and this incident has a huge impact on later events in the season.

Everything else, while definitely being a little unrealistic, over the top, while also depicting pretty poor tactics on the part of the cops - didn't negatively impact this scene to that much of an extent,. Which is why this scene, even with it's flaws, is still a badass shootout/firre-fight scene imo! But the bit at the end there was dumb

The body language in the acting in the scene was awesome Especially the end For those of you unlucky people that I’ve ever been out there that I’ve been in a life and death situation. Your adrenaline starts the pump like crazy. You survive the situation, and then it’s the worst part of it all Your adrenaline starts to drop quicker than Monica Lewinsky in the Oval Office You get the shakes and you start to realize what just happened Are used to carry a gun when I used to deliver food in the city of Wilmington Delaware and it was rough and there’s been a few times for iPad Ole Miss defend myself and the only reason they didn’t beat me up and Rodney possibly kill me because I had a gun on me I’m not a tough guy just an every day blue-collar nobody trying to make some money But you’d be surprised what you can do and what words can come out of your mouth when your life is on the line You don’t think you just react And, like I said, afterwards, is the worst part
