Nope, he was an insecure loser who would constantly try to prove his manhood by committing acts of violence that only would serve to make things worse. Ray is basically a feral animal, easily manipulated by a crime boss into killing someone unrelated, hurting others to disguise how powerless he feels, destroys his marriage, and is more interested in hurting bullies than actually helping his son from being bullied. The entire show is about how he's completely inadequate and useless despite being a "tough guy hero."

KageTrauma also what everyone’s failing to mention is that he was on the highway when he realized he was being followed. They zoomed in on his gas tank meter on the dash multiple times showing that his car was almost on empty. He had no where else to go he was coasting on fumes

Him and Vince Vaughn killed it in this. So did Lera Lynn. Very nihilistic and depressing tone, unforgiving natrative. Not the best true detective season but definitely underrated

Well shit. And I haven't even started watching this show yet but kept getting recommendations from KZread. Got hooks, kept watching clips and now I know spoilers. Damn it.

There's not. There were 5 people total, Burris and 4 mercenaries. He kills 2 mercs and then takes cover behind that rock and is killed by the remaining 3. I don't know what extra ppl you're talking about.

I love this character

Guys, you have to udnerstand something about this season. This is about what bad decision making leads to. What happens when you run on autopilot and let the monkey inside take over. Ray was an absolute piece of shit from beginning to end. Likable, charming, has some kind of code, etc. But if you watch from the beginning you can see that this character, like all the other characters, is just along for the ride. He reacts, he doesn't choose to take a different path. Maybe he likes the path too much, maybe it amuses him, maybe he's a coward, maybe he's just a piece of shit. But whatever it is, this is what happens when you run on autopilot, same with the other two male characters. These guys simply would not grow. And so they die. PIzzalotto is telling you, if you do not make a fucking choice, you will die in a fucking ditch, and there will be no parade, there will be no goddamn message, maybe your soulmate will be upset, but it won't make a damn bit of difference.

He had a shotgun and three guys left. He could've easily got two more with the weapons he had. He could've also picked up the rifles a bit quick for extra firepower which would've leveled the playing-field. The first stupid mistake though, was to go off into nowhere after the tracker was placed on his car.

Shal ucard yeah and he could’ve not jumped out from behind the tree like that leading to his death but you’re completely missing the point. He didn’t want to postpone it any longer. Go watch the scene where he’s dreaming and talking to his dad. His dad describes to him exactly how he’s going to die. That’s why when ray looked up at the trees he realized what his dad told him is what was happening, so he just let it happen.

I was a soldier who fought in Afghanistan. I would typically engage targets from 100-300 meters. That felt pretty fuckin close. You think because they wear man dresses and sandals that they aren't threats? War is all they've known. Ok my point before I trail off is imagine engaging with enemies who don't want to be shot. Sure we had superior firepower and tactics but it's pretty crazy shooting at people even from those distances. Here they are like 20-25 meters away and are healthier than him and right on his ass. He had no fuckin time to try and pick up those weapons at all. If anything I actually applaud whoever wrote this scene because one guy against 6-8 trained professionals is not happening at all lol. He had the grit and determination to try, but so do they. They wanted him dead and executed their plan to do so.

It’s like he tried to reenact the magic of the first season, but the investigation in season 3 is boring, actors are not convincing at all, there’s no suspense and the ending revelation of the whole story is completely dumb and implausible.

I fought for my life once. Rush. Things got all quiet, focused, lived. Awesome moment. Still have the missing tooth as a souvenir.

My friends and I took a page right out of a script for a movie and hunted a homeless person in the woods. It was way too easy. Never did that stuff again and always wondered if the body was found. I am guessing not.

The writers would've made Burris got killed by Ray.. That would be soo satisfying.. I just felt an urge to beat the shit out of that Burris guy.. Mann this ending was soo sad..

Those trees are magnificent

A lot of times a happy ending isn't always the best ending but man I hated this ending. I get where they were going with this season and it's ending. Focusing on the grimy, corrupt underworld in politics/positions of power and how the bad guys usually win but killing both Frank & Ray as well as Ray's messages failing to upload just felt a little cheap. It's obvious they realized people didn't like this season nearly as much as the first as they went back to the original thriller/mystery format with the final season. Great show overall though

Did anyone else pick up on the callback to episode 4? When Ray meets Elliot for the first time he remarks: “You have one of the largest auras I've ever seen-green and black." 2:20 Maybe Elliot was on to something.

I dont remember everything about season 2 I know I was disappointed but still thought it better than 85 % of what was on. Anyway why does he go to the deep woods? It makes sense on the surface but if u think about it ar all it's the worst thing he could have done worst after doing the only thing that could get him caught in going to see Chad, this gives them the isolation to kill and rob him and pretty much insures hes not getting closer to a signal.

No extra clips? Seems like he would at least try to get there guns or ammo, if he can't hes dead so why not? If he can he might live through this. Why not spray around the tree? Just giving up and running at them was he out of ammo all together? That shotgun could have done the damage he needs without sticking his head out considering there just coming at him pretty much head on not taking any cover giving there position up or at least Burris is. Take him out could probably talk the other 2 down, buy them off or they would probably beat it back to his car rob him and take off rather than risk dying in the woods and him getting away. Seems like he could have gotten away they dont have dogs or trackers and hes in the deep woods with a tactical shotgun, could have done better than just a kamikaze charge but maybe it makes more sense if I watched the whole thing knowing td it probably would make less

Anyway, I fucking hate the looks of those mercs, especially the beefy bald fuck who helps kill Ray at the end. He looks exactly like this one NYC bouncer who robbed me. Something like ten years ago I was in NYC around New Year's, wearing a brand new Prada jacket my dad had given me for xmas back in Vancouver a few days earlier. I was out dancing and I think the bouncer saw me stash the jacket (DJ let me stash it under the table) before I went to go take a piss. I'm in a stall, pissing, and he goes, DOING COKE IN THERE?!? Yanks me out and he knew I had no coke but rushes me out of the club in just a t-shirt. Of course the Prada jacket was gone when I called my friend to go check on it. Broke ass piece of thieving shit!

Tristan Morris he’s not a dirt bag, he’s just got a very hardcore sense of justice and is very cynical. He had a reason for beating up the kid’s dad, it was a very minor one mind you but there was a reason for it. Because he happened to have the shotgun, but shotguns suck dick for gunfighting.. so he was using his pistol when possible. But he wasn't about to leave an extra gun behind so he was keeping the shotgun, but it didn't have a sling... hence he is holding it while using his pistol with his strong hand until it ran dry.
