Pisses me off to no end that stealer-ships and manufacturers are allowed to buy up and destroy used vehicles.

Current prices are crazy. Bought a 2013 Tahoe with Z71 package and 108k miles for $18,500 in August 2020. I felt like it was a good deal then and now seeing what they going for makes me glad I got one then. I’ll replace the parts on it when needed and drive it forever. I can’t see spending 30k on something with 100k miles or 70k for new.

Got 240k on my 2007 yukon. Doesnt burn a drop. Other then a pan gasket, rear main and tranny rebuild at 220k not a single other problem. Suspension is still tight. Still love the rig!

Got 220 k on a 2002 7.3 ford f250 powerstroke no blow by no fuel in the oil starts up when it's 0 degrees like nothing Besides brakes ball Joints shocks maintenance Issues It's only had an intake 6 pos chip exhaust glow plugs and bigger Injectors and a banks wicked wheel and intake plenum and pipes But all that was just for performance not cus it needed to be fixed. And the thing is super crisp running wise and got tranny redone to handle all that new power But I drive it easy. Never beat on it but powers there when you need it to towe something As far as unconcerned it's an indestructible truck

The last vehicle I bought at a dealership was a 99 Chevy Silverado in 2011. I'm still driving the truck and just finished replacing the water pump on it and renewed the licence so I can drive it again. It's been a very reliable truck for me. I've bought 3 vehicles since, and all 3 were bought privately. I bought a 2000 Dodge Caravan, (not Grand) and I paid $500.00 for that van. After that I bought a 1998 Ford Windstar, also for $500.00. This past summer, I bought a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan for $1000.00. I've been extremely happy with each purchase. Yes I've had to do some work on each, currently I'm looking for a new engine for the 2000 Caravan, and the Ford Windstar got t-boned in an accident in January, so it got totaled out...which is why I'm looking for an engine for the 2000 Caravan to put it back into service. The 2006 Grand Caravan has a coolant leak and I've got the components to replace parts for that. But overall, I don't plan on buying from any dealership until the prices become reasonable again and I need a vehicle I can't get through a private deal.

I bought a 2002 Silverado 2500 6.0 4L80 in 2011, it had 75k miles, new BF All Terrains, color matched cap LEER, no rust, new Fisher plow. I paid 12k its loaded except leather try to find that now for that price! Ive plowed towed vacationed in New England weather , its amazing in snow plows like a tank and only had fuel pump and Knock sensors and wheel bearings esp commercial plowing. I still have it 11 years rust now starting to catch up but I still love it.

Some of the best, toughest trucks from GM came out of that timeframe. Of course there are a few small issues like you had and maybe leaky trans lines etc. but otherwise, tough power trains.

No death wobble? My 1500😮HD 6.0 developed death w if I hit 3 pot holes in a row the wobble would take affect scared the hell out of me.

I like Nathan's pick of the GM HD 6.0 Vortec combo. No diesel turbos, injectors, or DEF to worry about.

My best friend has the dodge 2500 with the 24-valve 4x4. I think it's a 2001. It looks gorgeous and sounds like a dream at 300,000 miles. He paid $9000 for it 5 or 6 years ago. The transmission went out last year and he had a local transmission shop rebuild it with better than OEM parts. What a truck!

I never care about DODGE RAM JEEP haters. Myself, my family, and many friends have them and they are insanely dependable! People got in DODGE HATER mode when I was a little kid. My family never quit driving them, but anything not a truck was a CJ,a Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, or Durango Some of Dodge cars in 80s90s probably not so good and that caused a bad name. On the truck Jeep side it’s mostly undeniable good stuff.. some transmission troubles in early Cummins years and once past the old square trucks the quality has just kept improving I own them, I love them (no regrets)

Thank you Nathan for recognizing the “Brodozer” wheels. I see that so much these days and try not to get irritated at them because their not my truck. Still is annoying lol. Thank you guys for all your videos, most honest and fun automotive channel!.

Also Nathan, great choice on your top truck!! The f150 5.0 v8 I bought recently hands down the best value I found…..2011, fully loaded f150 with the coyote, 6 speed, actual steel doors, 4x4, 3.73e locker. I bought from a family that just babied this truck and kept it spotless. I was shocked that compared to the base model 2013-2015 trucks I could afford….this truck is SUPER nice.

Nice! I got a 2013 and like it a lot, check the leadframe module ford has a “warranty extension” not a recall on them. Meaning that they will replace it if they have the part. Mine went bad, and the part i had to pay out of pocket, but get that done if its effecting your year, my Trannsmission locked up when i was at a stop sign

I am tempted to sell my 2007 Chevy Silverado HD 2500 for a smaller truck but watching this reinforces that I have a very good and reliable truck. Thank you guys.

Don't sell your 2007 2500 HD. I have a 2004 2500 HD Crew Cab. It's been the best truck I've ever owned. Only 220,000 miles on it. Runs great. I will never sell it. You SHOULD KEEP yours as well.

Horne Ford in Arizona. Prices are absolutely insane. They wanted 33k for a single cab work truck f150, white, no options. And over 50k for a Ford Ranger Lariat.

My 2007 f150 xl just hit 90,000 miles. 4.2 l v6 five speed stick. 3.73 posi rear end. Somehow still no rust no real mucks or scratches. I look at new trucks and go best to keep my truck been paid for over 10 years does all I need.

I just sold my 2011 Tacoma Sport 4x4 4door 6’bed. The truck was in exceptional shape with only 97k on it. I had it listed for $29k and had a list of people trying to buy it because it was they said it was nicest one under $30k. The problem we ran into was the banks didn’t want to lend on it. It was because of it’s age and because of today’s crazy supply and demand market driving prices higher than KBB value. I had 3 super excited buyers fall through because of the banks. I ended up selling it to a cash buyer

Another issue I ran into is if your unfortunate to have an accident insurance companies will try to give you book value which is way less than market value. Get an appraiser and or a lawyer these days.

@@anaskhalil4997 one 2007 2500 van kuv body sold it at 505000.0 370000.0 on a 2009 still running it 2011 2500 312000 still running it another 2011 2500 hd 320000.0 still running it and a 2017 147000.0 3500 just put a tran in it didn’t fail flywheel broke and wiped the case out we have had great luck with them we had a 2002 but I think we put a motor in it at 250000.0 and sold it right after

Great video guys. Thanks again. I was about to buy a truck, preferably a 3/4 ton truck, started looking online and soon found my budget jump from $25k to $35 in about 15 mins of looking. All the trucks, besides mid size trucks, were way above that for lower mileage vehicles. Guess I'll be waiting until I save more money and/or markets cool down a bit.

I grew up driving my dad's manual 4 cylinder 1997 Toyota T100. Not a lot of power but definitely a solid truck. Also with the 9 foot bed. It's now almost 27 years old and still only has 97,000 miles on it.

totally agree on Nissan trucks. they seem to be the only ones that are somewhat reasonably priced.

Hope I did the right thing ??? I purchased a 130,000 mile very nice deleted and tuned 2004 F250 FX4 with a blown head gasket 6.0, big surprise ! It cost 10 K. Spent another 10 K and had new ringed heads put in, bullet proof billet water pump, oil cooler , blue spring fuel regulator, dummy plugs, stand pipes, glow plugs , injectors and thermostat replaced. 2 K on tires and odds and ends. I'm in at $ 22,000 for a well sorted truck. This was financially crazy just a few years ago but , today I feel I did the right thing as diesel regulations increase and diesel truck costs have become crazier than the average used truck market it was the only way I could enter the game.

People always seem to forget that the colorado/canyon from 2009-2012 came with a 5.3 v8 without fuel management. Such a good and reliable truck. I have a 2005 4.0l ranger 4x4 thats in good shape and its ok truck, not the most reliable. I also have a colorado v8 and its better on gas than the ranger, can tow more, rides smoother, I had much better luck with reliability, its faster, and is just a much better overall truck. On the used market they hover around the same price but the colorado v8 is a better bang for your buck.

I’ve bought 2 cars in the last 6 months. A 2006 Toyota Sequoia(230k miles) for $5,000 and a 2008 5.7 Tundra(130k miles) for $14,000. I’m starting to think I got a pretty good deal on them.

This is the first time I have seen your channel. I bought a brand new ranger in 2001 at 18,000 and I drove it for 250,000 miles and sold it for 5000. Great vehicle.

For a half-ton truck, I recommend the 2003-2006 GM 1500 trucks. Great LS engines with no fuel management junk, dependable 4L60E transmissions, easy to service and repair.

The 4L60e really depends on the usage. If the truck was used to tow and the driver left the transmission in D / OD, the torque converter will get burned out and will strip the transmission. If the truck was not used for towing or towed in 3 / 3D, it is fine. It depends on the year if the truck says PRND321 or PRN(OD)321. 1999-2006 GMT800s half tons said PRND321 while 1995-1999 GMT400 said PRN(OD)321

One truck to avoid is a 2004-10 f150 with the 3v 5.4 engines, they have oil sludge buildup and when they happens, new entire engine. The 4.6 3V and the 5.0 are excellent engines, but the 3v 5.4 is horrible. The 6.8 V10 is a bulletproof engine you could get in the E-Series and the super duty from 99-2010, although it was a gas guzzler.

I advise the same thing. Though if a 2004-2011 F-150 with the 5.4 3v has a new engine, I'd consider it okay to buy. Though do religious 3000 mile oil changes on the 5.4 3v and it'll last. Though don't go out and buy a 150k mile 5.4 3v with major cam phaser ticks and think you can fix it with sludge cleaner and future 3000 mile changes. Only buy a 70k+ mile 5.4 3v if it has good documentation proving 3000 mile oil changes.

Idk I’ve got a 2010 5.4 and owned it since 120k, it’s at 146k as of now one year later and j haven’t had any issues! I just do oil changes every 5k and she runs great! On the contrary the first one I had looked at had 120k and then started ticking and sure enough cam phasers went bad a week after getting it. Went back to the dealer and demanded a trade, they gave me a trade for the same exact truck which is the one I have now that runs great! Truly depends on the previous owners and how they treated their trucks.

I would recommend a 2010 or older ford f150 with the 2 valve 4.6l V8. Cheap to operate very reliable engine. Just not too good on mpg but why are you buying a truck if you care about mpg.

For the trucks, 2004 was the switch over from 2v to 3v. The 5.4 2v in F-150s from 1997 to 2003 is a solid choice. The 4.6 3v used in 2004 to 2011 was solid. The 5.4 3v from 2004 to 2011 is shit and should be avoided at all costs. The 4.6 and 5.4 4v used in a few Fords and Lincolns is a great power train, though it isn't as common as the 2v or 3v.

@@bill_clinton697 my friend/co worker got a 2004 HD 150 with 7 lugs and (I believe) 8200 GVWR, with the mini clam shell doors for behind the bench seat extra storage, 4wd, 8 ft bed, with 4.6L. I believe it had a listed 3000(?) lb payload. We worked for a farmer and logger and she has her own small horse farm/farm I always liked that truck and loaded it up with 60 or so bales for her to take home a number of times.

Why would you get the 2010 instead of the 2011 with the 5.0

Around the same time this video was posted I purchased a 2013 Ram 1500 with the 6 speed transmission Outdoorsman trim 85k miles for under the $25k mark. The same dealership currently has a 2012 Ram 1500 I believe the express trim for under $18k. I stopped by to look at the latter but it was in the shop having the heads smoothed.

I got ya all beat. I got a 53 Chevy stepside, 13k! Only 25k on the odometer. Blue flame straight six, three on the tree. Everything works. Box heater, A/C (windows down), AM radio, perfect primer paint, dual exhaust and carbs!! I daily drive it. Kinda screams at 60 but gets the job done, and I think my dad told me you could pull a house with it. Yeah my gas mileage sucks; about 12mpg, but I bet I’ll sell it for more than I paid some day🤣🤣🤣 PS:my dads 97

A dealer in Miami Lakes, Florida. I was trying to get a new Kia Telluride prestige xpro. MSRP was 52,978. Sales person said they get $ 60,000, all day long. Final price was 67,900. Obviously I did not buy

It was hard to find a 'MT' 4.0 4x4 Frontier even back in 2006 when I bought mine (still own it). Only three available on the entire Colorado Front Range when I purchased. Drove 110 miles to Denver to pick it up...

I drive that 2013 F150 for work. It has 275k miles on it. Still runs pretty good lol.

Part of the problem is people are buying crew cabs and extended cabs with every option imaginable . This affects the used truck market too because there isn't enough standard trucks in the used market. It also makes the manufacturers think that people want every option on their truck and they push out more $70k trucks rather than $40k trucks. It's hard to find a standard cab/long bed truck. This makes the price of really old trucks go up because you have to buy an old truck to get a standard cab long bed truck now.

Summer 2021 i sold my 2016 F150 v8 4x4 Lariat for a profit and bought a 2010 Nissan Titan LE 4x4 for $18k. Owned a 2004 Titan for 8 years before the F150. Titan is a solid truck. Underrated. No issues. I only drive truck for towing and hauling so no need to own more expensive truck especially when F150 broke down twice in 18 months. Under warranty luckily.

The Titan is truly a underrated truck. They have exhaust manifold issues which can suck up parts of the catalytic converter into the engine. All VK56DE engines have this issue. It can be fixed with after-market exhaust manifolds or by deleting the catalytic converter if you live in a state without emissions testing. Other than the exhaust manifolds, which are the fatal flaw, these trucks are known to be solid and in my opinion, are essentially cheaper Tundras.

I had a 2007 f 250 with a 6.0 bought new had no problems the 6.4 was junk

Ditto. I had an '07 F250 with the 6.0 Diesel. I towed enormous loads with it. Never had a single issue with it and it got great fuel economy. And, BTW it was a salvage title truck when I bought it. Everyone that I ever new that had a problem with their 6.0 had modified it in some way for more power. I kept mine bone stock. If I had listened to this broadcast before I bought it, I would have missed out on a great truck.

It's crazy for me seeing what old Rangers are going for right now. I have an '04 XLT FX-4 that I bought in 2019 with 64k miles for $2,400. I look at classifieds and dealership listings now and I see similar years and trims with over 100k miles going for 10k, 12k, sometimes even more.

I have a 2007 chevy 2500 HD 4×4 Z71 Exended cab 8ft box 6.0 v8 6speed auto. The refreshed body style I had it l properly leveled out when I first got it. Iv hade it now 5 years 180,000 hard miles between me and my brother. Over all its Ben a solid truck no reliability issues. I love it . At 180 000 it's needing the front end rebuilt wich seems to be the week link for these trucks . But If I had to buy another truck I'd most definitely be buying a newer versions of my truck.

I've never had a problem with a salvage title here in PA. Found my mom's car with a salvage title and she's had it now for 5 years with no problems. Just bought my suv in february with a salvage flood title and it's fine

No DEF or DPF on that 2006 if I recall correctly, I know here in Canada 2007 was the year emissions for diesels came on hard and heavy with tons of teething pains.

Ford rancho santa margarita is a legit dealer still around. Last month I got a 2021 ford ranger tremor with 4K miles for only $40,120!! They are not greedy and great people

93 4.0 ranger is a OHV engine. After 2001 they went to a OHC design 4.0

I agree with you about not getting a lifted truck. Although I wouldn't hesitate to get one that's been leveled. Especially one one with quality components.

I see truck prices dropping around me. Starting to see $3k - $5k discount and the oil price spike has only just started. $12k off new trucks by June. Meanwhile, I am still seeing 24k Ford Mavericks selling for $44k, which is just nuts. Old Ford trucks with the 4.6 and old Toyota trucks with the 4.6 are the best ones to buy.

I bought a 2011 extended cab canyon for $10k. electric windows, mirrors, cruise control, mp3 cd radio. l4 engine after fixing 3 sensors ,engine runs great. upholstery in good condition, seats have had covers. silver sle. got up to 23 mpg highway. only code left on computer is basically tpms. When checking on listed trucks they have ended up being sold wjust before we looked at them. 131k mileage

My '07 Ram 2500 runs great and will be in the driveway for many more years. No "TICK" or "GLITCH" just a "HITCH".

Great video. I have a 2012 Ford 150, got it with 114k at 12k this time last year. It’s for work towing a small dump trailer daily for about a year. It has been great. Had to make some minor repairs but the engine and Tran is strong. This is my first ever truck. It’s fun.

My 2007 silverado LBZ w/allison 1000 6 speed has 208k miles on it and runs like a champ. Never one problem in 18 years owning it. Best truck ive ever owned. Selling for $22k its honestly immaculate inside and out. Buying a new $95k-er its time

In northern western Nevada both of the ford dealers(crowin ford and capital ford) have marke ups across the board on new trucks and suv of $3K and up to $10K. as for the chevy gmc/chevrolet in the same market they are at $5K mark up!

Let's not BS boys, there are very, very , and I mean very few American trucks after mid 2000's that where with the headaches, cost, unreliability... The Toyota trucks,(Land Cruiser, Tundra, Sequoia, Tacoma, 4runner, Prado, FJ cruiser...almost any & every model & year(- some Tacoma frames a few years[and Toyota fixed a lot of those]).

That suburban sounds like a good donor truck for a project. All the drive line stuff sounds solid.

The dealer markup solution is simple - don't buy a vehicle marked up. For starters you are gonna be waaaay underwater on that in 2 years. I don't even blame the dealers and feel bad for them and the sales departments too. Most these places made money from the volume they sold. Now they have no inventory to sell. They are left trying to make the same amount of money from 1 sale as they made off of 10 sales before. A lot of the sales guys have been laid off or quit to find another job. It's not much fun to work a 60 hour week and not get a paycheck...

The 1st gen Avalanche 😈 Beast for budget, you can't beat it; especially the 2500 with 6.0L and 4L80E.

Best bang for buck 20k budget 10-15k purchase price with 5-10k repair / upgrades.

Id like to add if you only need 2wd and pull 3lb or less, get a 2006 and up Ford Crown Vic/Mercury Grand Marquis/ or Lincoln Town Car. I just pull my 16' 70hp fishing boat and get 20ish mpg average keeping 65mph and under. These cars are 50/50 balance maybe just 50lbs heavier in the back and make great shop trucks idk if you've ever seen their trunks 😆. Also Roadmasters and Caprices are cool but I'd rather save them

I know that this is an older video, but I came across this 2017 Toyota 4 Runner SR5, which is a base model with 97,000 miles that I feel was over priced around 29,000, only to see it again priced for 32,000. It's tax time and these dealerships have lost their mind.

The Nissan Frontier is a really good option I have a 2014 and I love it.

In my experience to get a 5-year car loan from most banks, a vehicle must be less than 10 years old and have less than 100,000 miles.

HD truck picks......mid 2000 ford f250-350 4x4 with a v10 2006-12 chevy 2500-3500 4x4 with a 6.0l v8 or early-mid 2000's chevy 2500-3500 with a 8.1l big block gas v8 and the allison trans avoid all dodge trucks, the transmissions are pure garbage, the front ends get the death wobble avoid all ford 6.0l and 6.4l powerstrokes I would avoid diesels in general just due to potential maintenece and repair cost, but pre emmisions and pre def trucks I would only consider. 2006 duramax and 7.3 powerstrokes and any 5.9 cummins that has been mated to an allison and transplatented into a ford or chevy but those would blow the budget you can find ford v10 and chevy gas v8 trucks for around $10,000-$20,000 no problem avoid trucks from the rust belt no matter how good the price, and or states that get snow avoid trucks that have plows attached unless it was lightly used oklahoma seems to be the zone with no road salt, low humidity, no ocean salt and flat roads, prolly a lot of easy highway miles but either way go south

I'd definitely get a 06 Chevrolet 1500 6.0 or 5.3 4.7 and 4.3 are all great engines

Had a 2003 2dr 4.0 explore sport. Those were good pond hoppers. I understand why no 2door Ranger 4.0s..that 2dr explore was dangerous fast for the wheelbase. It could get away from you in a second under full throttle and slippery conditions..

I had a 99 Ranger 4X4 offroad 4.0 regular cab short bed stick shift. It was a blast but I wouldn't say fast lol. A civic would probably smoke it now a days.

With a salvage title, the longer amount of time it has been driven by one owner after the rebuild the safer they are to buy.

Antioch Nissan and Toyota in California are marking their vehicles up around 10k last few weeks I was there. I left that place and didn't go back.

At ~33:15 Nathan states "they're using heat" and Andre agrees with respect to how the Duramax is managing emissions without DEF. That's patently inaccurate if you're talking about 2006-early 2007 LBZ (or late LLY) rigs. Those do not have a DPF at all (though they do have a cat) and do not regen in anyway. What you're think about are 2007.5-2010 LMM Duramaxes that do have a DPF, but do not have DEF. In reality, all trucks with DPFs use heat to clean up emissions, whether or not they use DEF in the SCR process. But the '7.5-10s are injecting fuel into the engine during the exhaust stroke to produce that heat, which makes them far less desirable IMHO. Cylinder wash-down, oil dilution, excess heat in the turbo etc. are all problems with this regen strategy (both Ford and RAM also used or still use this strategy). For what it's worth, the '11+ Duramax (LML, L5P) uses a 9th (low pressure) injector in the downpipe to inject the fuel to provide the heat for regen. In other words, no, LBZ Duramax engines "don't use heat" to deal with emissions beyond the catalytic converter. LMMs use a DPF with no DEF and inject the additional fuel on the exhaust stroke. And LML/L5P do use DEF and a 9th injector. This is why LBZs are so sought after (along with the 6 speed version of the Allison as you correctly pointed out) and why LMMs are probably the least desirable generation after LB7s that have the injector issues you mentioned.

My experience with LMM is 320k trouble free miles. Maintenance, yes. But extremely good pickup with comfort and looks to boot.

I still love the 2016-2018 model Silverado LTZ’s 5.3 or 6.2 V8s. Im not really impressed with the new models unless its a GMC Sierra.

Nice trucks indeed. A quick search of my local listings and these are all north of $35k USD.

Great podcast. I am actually in the market for a newer truck as we speak. I’m actually selling my 02 F-250 with the 7.3 Powerstroke. Amazing truck but for what I do I need something a little better on fuel that can also pull my camper. I have been looking at the F-150 with the 5.0 and the Tundra with the 5.7 .

These years for these prices are ridiculous. I would NEVER pay over 20k for something over 10 years old.

Where I live, any truck under that price is 15 years old, with 300k miles on it (or more).

I went to a dealership yesterday. Found a truck I liked for $27,000 on their website and mentioned it and that it was well below my budget. Guy immediately went “oh, no that’s wrong now. It’s actually $34,900. So, if you trade in, I can keep you just below your budget.” It wasn’t worth more than $30,000 at absolute maximum. I have never walked away from a sale so fast.

What truck was it?

2005-2006 tundras are outstanding. 6.5 foot Beds. Good cab space, an over performing 270 horsepower engine. Awesome ergonomics. Fantastic visibility. If you can avoid the rust you got a truck that can easily go half million miles. Easy to work on. Easy to find parts. Tons of first gen tundras on the road. You can get them with low miles for around 14-17 k. I love mine

No used Trucks in CT. All over priced and no warranty!

The best buy a new Ford Maverick. Has warranty and amazing.

The 7.3 litre powerstroke diesel was a great engine, but I wouldn't get the 6.0 litre diesel

Please let me know what used truck to by to pull a toyhauler camper weight empty 7.5 pd. Do we need a 3/4 ton or 1 full tone. Some states do check weight. We need a 4x4 as well. Help is appreciated

I belive he was refering to the lmm durmax 2007.5 for the 6 speed Allison.

what are your thoughts on a 2002 chevy Silverado ls, 128,578 mi for a $8995 list price? I have yet to see it but pics are due up on their website soon and I'm sure I could get it sent to a Virginia dealership so I could put eyes on it and check for rust and test drive it. it's a one owner truck from South Carolina. 4-speed auto w/ overdrive. 4.8l/v8

Damn, even my year was number 1. I can't complain about the truck. My lbz has been trusty besides the usually egr plague of diesels
