Truck Wars: Part 1 | Jeff Grosso's Loveletters to Skateboarding | VANS

Спорт

This is so big it had to get split in to two parts… it’s basically a mini documentary about the history of TRUCKS- John Lucero, Lance Mountain, Joey Tershay, Tony Hawk, Cab, Steve Olson, Sam Hitz, Rick Blackhart and others discuss how truck companies have shaped skateboarding from the beginning. Watch Truck Wars Part 1.

Im afraid the Indy crew might beat me up, since my dad is long time Indy rider from 70's, 80's, 90's and now. I threw on a pair of Gullwing Pro 3's on my setup and I got a dirty look from my dad.

I remember Tracker trucks with the plastic base. Those models sucked because they would crack and stick when grinding. Indy and Venture would grind the best for me. Skated in Fresno, CA back in the 80’s. My homeboys and I were the first to grind all of the curbs. The old days! Thanks for the video.

for me, I always loved INDY, THUNDER, & VENTURE. but for some ungodly reason, I always ended up with TRACKER. mind you, I NEVER bought a single set, but somehow I always ended up with a bunch of TRACKERS. I really appreciated the rubber base plates because I went through some base plates, but no one mentioned the 1 OBVIOUS problem with TRACKER.....the fvkkin' axles would slide inside of the hangars so 1 wheel would become super tight while the other 1 would become super loose & you'd ALWAYS have to bang the axles back into position just to roll. I know i'm not the only 1 to ever have to deal with that.

  • @deadbeat-vc9kg

Exactly what happened to all my friends who rode Trackers. They broke their base plates and had to bang their axles on the curb once in a while to fix their wheels.😂

After almost 2 years of learning as much as I could in my driveway and neighborhood streets on a fucking Nash Executioner, I had finally saved up enough for a real set up that I could bring to a local spot and skate without ridicule. I ordered and Adam McNatt complete from Skully Bros. It showed up and I spent another week getting the nerve to actually show up to the curbs & loading docks behind Longs Drugs. I finally gathered up enough testicular fortitude to roll up. The last thing I was thinking about was that I was riding Gullwings...and that was the day I learned how serious Northern Californians take their trucks. After a few days of going through the motions the local crew realized that I was not going to go away. One of the older kids gave me his old Indy's and the world kept on turning.

No single mention of G&S chromolly trucks? Late 80s I loved those, grind like no tomorrow, could turn great even when tight. Didn't last long, so I went back to Indy after a few sets, but aside from the fact that they didn't last, they were the best functioning truck in my opinion.

I know that anxiety when getting new trucks. I just bought my first pair (Thunders) in about 4 plus years. At least I have my old bushings though. P.s, boil your new bushings for a few minutes, idk it just works.

I had all your boards skating Upland pipe growing up there. Tried most of them ended up Tracker with Oj 2’s one small riser and any board left!

oh shit I used to rock Destructos, I remember they had so much room to grind down before you got to the king pin. I was disappointed in the one pair of Fury trucks I got, the bushings were so soft they squished out the sides when I tightened them. P.S Tensor trucks sucked and I forgot about how many trucks in my day came and went like Ruckus, Monster, Kreper etc. Sorry nostalgia got me rambling.

Dude LANCE hit it right on the head . Yo to me these guys where my freaking HEROS . Even when VERT went unpopular I still wanted to ride VERT ! Those dudes were gnarly and all you had to do to shut a mofo up was to tell that person to drop in a 12 ft. Ramp . People tired of it cause they couldn’t do it. I was into street and I moved to CLEARWATER for a short time and there was a indoor skate ramp with mini and vert ramp. It was gnarly. I learned a lot there and when I ca,e back to NY my style was so much bigger and better.

It's sad they had to get rid of the iron cross because it's a great example of how you can ascribe positive to an evil symbol and change the perception of it, as kid this was the Indy truck logo before history class taught me it meant something else but didn't also explain the counter cultural significance
