Wait, wait , wait- there were a couple of 90's era skaters mentioned and featured and yet somehow Tom Penny wasn't???? He is one of the few skater that imho had BOTH "how you do it" AND "what you do". I mean he had the look (which he still stays true to today), the relaxed, effortless, natural style all the while on the "what you do" side of things he brought the early 90's scrapping the ground flips up into big pop over and down huge s***.

True story: I used to bartend and promote at a very popular and local beach bar and we booked US Bombs early in their inception. Jacksonville, being a big skate and surf town, was well aware of them so the turnout was max capacity. I'd been skating since the 80's so I knew who Duane was. Buck Smith introduced me to Duane that night and I got us all pretty trashed. At one point, I was out back pissing and Daune came out there with some little local girl. Im sitting to the side having a smoke and I see Duane walk over to a corner to piss and the girl, who was also pretty trashed, didn't notice what he was doing and walked right up in front of him. Duane didn't give a shit, or didn't notice, and just kept pissing, all over this chick. So there's Duane putting his junk away with a smiling piss soaked girl standing in front of him. To Duane: Sorry we made you to hung over to play the show the next night...

Style is very important to start picking up on, EARLY! . .something a lot of kids now-a-days just don't have (I mean OF COURSE there are new riders with incredible style) HOWEVER; IT IS ALSO, one thing , THAT SOME dudes, [that can do every trick] forget, totally. . I think it is because, every kid gets a car, or one of their friends have a car, and they don't need to just skate for transportation. they just drive from one of the million skateparks. So "some" of the kids today, don't learn how to actually ride the board smoothly, or even learn to just cruise, for block to block, from spot to spot. . . Style is one thing I can still hang my hat on after skating for 30 years. . im not blowing smoke up my own a$$ , cause I kinda suck now. im a bit out of shape, I partied too much for 2 decades, and my hiatuses once I hit 30 years old are longer and longer. . . hah But I still like to get out there and rip. . And even the newer skater dudes and brand new groms ask me about my style; almost every time I go out skating. Of course I really started skating hard in the early 90s. So I do have a bit of the "gangster" skateboard style. So I was totally emulating other people. . . think: back bent, arms down Beagle . . lul. . nowadays it is just second nature and not something I try and do. It is just the way I skate. So I bet it looks a lot better and smoother than when I was actually trying to do it. however; Back in the day, it absolutely was something I concentrated on. landinding bolts with my back bent and my hands at my waist or below. . a lot of videos of myself, I kind of cringe cause it is waaaaaay over exaggerated, and it was definitely forced. Today though, the exaggeration isn't there and im at a happy medium of not arching my back so much, or trying to make sure my hands were all the way down at my knees. . LMAo sorry for the rant. but it just gets me mad , when a kid can land 50 tricks in a game of skate rolling at 1mph, but if you watch them push down a city block, it looks like they are day one on a board :0 :) last thing I must add is, FOR SOME SKATERS, swith mongo push looks super awesome . . even look at Carroll back in the day. . his switch mongo push was super Stylish! Peace!!

Style is one part of a big picture, it is not the picture. Go skate and have fun.

***** Who you callin a faggot? Whatever man, Shipman was cool but you gotta be thick as an ape if you think that he had anything on Penny.. Ur right about EMB being massively influential but youre also probably one of them chumps who thought it really mattered to be down with that whole SF/FTC movement back in the day when shit was way more political and rugged but whatever... EMB influenced alot but none of them lot fucked up the game like Penny did. Penny went 2 the states at 14 , shut all your shit down buttery smooth, switch, then fucked off and everyone tried to be him for the next 10 years. And no you havent been skating longer than ive been alive you mug im 33, i actually skate too which is probably more than can be said for you, you old fuck... go suck out.. From when you call yourself the fuckin dark avenger AND a spiritual guru, Its obvious youre a wasteman
