Truck Camping in a Snowy Mountain Town (Renovated Truck Camper)

Suggestion from a born and bred northerner is to start up the vehicle before you de-snow and de- ice the vehicle all the while putting the windshield defrosters on with the heat setting on high It will be cold air at first but while you are cleaning the snow and ice off your truck it will become easier to do.

This. It's so common where I'm from that I thought everyone already knew that trick/necessity. But I spose people who don't have to deal with 6 months of snow have no need to know that trick, so it's great that good people like you, are spreading the word to the cold-weather living novices/uninitiated. I'm sure there is likewise, a thousand warm-weather tricks people like Mr Yentch could teach people like me too.

I run the heat through the vents and wait for the interior to heat up before directing heat through defroster. In most cases switching to defrost is not necessary.

When you can see your breath inside your home ... that’s a huge sacrifice. Nope. Just nope. Which is why I’m so grateful for you courageous souls who brave the elements & let us come along. Best wishes. You’re so adorable. If you still have one, call your mom once in a while or schedule “calls,” like I used to do with my dad every Sunday while he was still alive. 🥰

I LOVE LOVE the yell after taking a sip of your coffee that's made from scratch (it always makes me smile). I was born and raised in S.F. CA and the last 20 yrs I've lived in MS. I ran across your channel when you made the Golden Gate bridge/SF videos. They brought me back home which I miss so much. I use to work at the Presidio and that bridge was right outside my window, and whenever I get homesick I look at those videos over and over. I'm 65 yrs old and I wish back in the day I had the courage to live like you do. The freedom you seem to have with nature all around you, makes me envious. You're a lucky young man and I'll continue to get joy from your videos. Take care and just continue to enjoy life because it does go by so fast. Good luck on catching a fish!!

Hey Jonathan, I know you probably have thought of this but why don’t you use your jackery for the 12 volt system instead of the batteries you have. Just make a plug for the 12 volt port on the jackery I’m sure that thing has enough power for what you’d use it for couple lights and the water pump. I feel like it would also simplify the set up. The windshield crack is likely due to going in multiple extremes in a short time, especially right after installation. The combos of curved glass, heat, cold, humidity, dryness and elevation changes in such a short time WILL do that to almost any windshield. Hope you had a warranty. It's mornings like that where the coffee is worth every drop. #woooooo

I would have driven to the Audio shop to get it done they are just not Audio 99% of them are also 12v and 110 certified if it has a wire and fuse and a screen they can install it. if you want you only run off Batterys they can build a lithium battery to run a 6 bedroom house not even kidding. if you want solar they can install that 2 audio shops aren't just audio shops when broken down to the basics

PS-You might want to invest in some weather tech mats so you don’t rust your floor out.

A suggestion for the back of your camper. I'd build a fold up platform, that would plug into the hitch receiver. The deck of it would be expanded metal. I would build it in two sections, one on the right where a bicycle could be carried vertically, so you could still access the door with the bike attached. The platform folded down would serve as a step, and also a place to sit. Quick to deploy when needed, and equally quick to stow when ready to pull out and hit the road.

Yes it diesel but burns so efficient. I use about 1/3 a gallon for 6 hours of use. Plus it will not put moisture in the air like propane. Just a thought. New follower from Montana. All of the Heater buddies I have, have issues at high altitudes. I was told because of lower unsafe oxygen levels. Not sure if that's the case. But I have three that are hard to start when I go rock crawling at high altitude. I just use a blanket inside of my sleeping bag and double up on thermal Super Man underwear. Plus a bit of Jack with dinner is perfect.

Hey, I also have a truck camper in Ontario Canada... I purchased a Propane hot water on demand shower unit from "GASLAND" .. I mounted it right on the back of my camper beside the door which allows me to shower anytime.. have a look at them..👍

O ya, also when you put the heater on to defrost the windsheild, put it on the vents first to warm up the window prior to switching it to defrost... you shouldn't crack and more windshilds...

When the fuel is too cold, it won't work properly. Try different fuel if the buddy heater allows it. Great video!

Piezo igniters are kind of finicky on my various backpacking and camping stoves. I have always attributed it to the cold/damp air. I use a fero rod to spark ignite them when the piezo doesnt work. Might be something to look into for the Mr buddy heater. AAA has a windshield glass replacement coverage, I think other insurence companies do too. might want to look into it. I had a windshield replaced in an hour.
