Truck Camping a Hidden Gem near Las Vegas

This weekend we hit the road to explore Dixie National Forest and Cedar Breaks National Monument! An area about 3 hours north of Las Vegas to Cedar City in Utah to escape the heat! I've heard this area is a hidden gem, tourists normally go to either Zion or Bryce Canyon instead so we were pleasantly surprised to see barely ANYONE around as we were camping and exploring the park and forest!
It was a smoke filled weekend as smoke and fog from the California fires spread throughout the area, luckily the smoke wasnt too bad but it definitely left a hazy horizon everywhere we looked (made the Amphitheater in Cedar Breaks National Monument look a bit lackluster)!
With the fires nearby in California, it was no surprised that Dixie was under fire restrictions so we FINALLY broke out our propane firepit which was such a GOOD IDEA because it got COLD that night lol which we werent expecting but luckily we had hand warmers and layered up at night to stay warm in the Roof Top Tent!
It was a food failure on all fronts (which was my bad lol) I forgot the Pad Thai sauce and can opener which killed our fancy dinner and breakfast plans! Regardless, its always a good time to get out, clear your mind and RELAX!

We went last year as well up to Duck Creek and Uinta Flats in the BLM/forestry area near the fire station and ice caves. Steep pulling a 30' trailer near Cedar Breaks, but our caravan of a large travel trailer, a van, and an ultra lite trailer made it just fine. This year, I am ditching the trailer and starting truck camping only with my van buddy. Looking forward to returning to this area again as it is incredible and lots of neat places to hike and explore the outdoors. Glad to see fellow Vegans on the road and in places that I love!

Hey Kat! I've heard good things about Duck Creek area! Hoping to check that area out more next year (its prob cold up there now days lol) The wife and I have been debating on getting a Travel Trailer one day (more for longer trips/base camping at campgrounds/ etc) but having the truck and everything you need to camp and being able to maneuver around with it, its a tough to pull the trigger on a trailer lol so I can definitely see why your going with just the truck camping setup! We're not vegan BUT we love vegan food and are open to trying anything :) Thanks for watching! Appreciate it

Hi JL! Yes I think Navajo would be a good fishing lake, I just got my Utah Fishing license so i'll be back to get a line wet! The particular site we were at, i'm not sure if an Travel trailer would be able to get back there.. there were a few big bumps in the road but there were alternative spots on the trail (closer to the entrance off the main road) that looked a bit more trailer friendly (flat and larger areas) No problem! Glad you've been enjoying the content! We'll be making more videos in the future! Cheers!

Check out the Vegas Overlanding group on FB, we do events on there every few months. It is more of an offroad group but there are a lot of stock rigs out there that are just getting started and don't have a ton of experience camping. i was actually thinking of starting another group for more camping/exploring around the state that isnt specific for overlanding/offroading, glad to hear there may be some interest! :)

We were at the main area of Zion in May of 2017 while on a 52 day journey from New England and it was just too hot with our 2 dogs so we went around to the Kolob section and it was much cooler at its higher elevation. We were camping in Hatch. On the way back we stopped at Navajo Lake, it was quite interesting. Travel safe.
