This guys is the man. First how to video on something I’ve never rebuilt that went almost only once through without rewinding and yelling “not on my mower it don’t”. I have a different model but seems like they are assembled the exact same way. Thanks for the how to. Saved me 500$ in labor at the SER shop.
Great video as always Taryl. thanks for sharing the knowledge. You make it so much easier showing the short cuts to get through the repair easier and faster in time for dinner lol.
Thanks for all the repair videos... you have been my teacher online and thanks to you and I was able to save money in the repairs of my MTD continue making serious videos and with the touch of sense of humor...Thank!!
Crossville TN here, and Thank You so much for your help with this. I was trying to do this without going through the battery compartment and found it very hard. Thanks to You, even though my lower belt looked good, I am going to replace it anyway. The top belt broke and She would not move.
I just bought one of these Pony Mowers and this is much needed knowledge for later down the road. The Pony replaced a 21 year old Murry 14.5 hp 40 inch cut with a Tecumseh. Thanks for doing these Educational Video's and the Comedy is Bonus!!!!
I am a 50 year old woman and because of your video I found the confidence in myself to attempt this. Let’s just say it ate my lunch. The old upper drive belt popped. And it was stuck on the pulley after listening better to your video. I realized I needed to put the parking brake on and then that pulley got loose and I got the belt right off. That was only after I pulled on it and pulled and pulled for about 30 minutes. If only I would’ve listened a little better. I didn’t know if I was gonna have the strength to crack the nut on the pulley but because of your screwdriver trick, I managed to do it. This feels fantastic knowing I didn’t have to get my 69-year-old father over here to help me do this.
When Blademan said he pissed in the salsa, I have to admit my own bladder let loose. Glad he got to Throttle on time or the dynamic duo would now be the dynamic uno. Great tips from Taryl too, like the spring yanker. Always laugh, and always learn something new. Thanks guys!
Thanks for this vid. My drive belt shredded into pieces and I would have never fixed this myself without finding this video.
You ain't right. Love the vids
Great video Taryl. Blademan and Throttle are my favorite. I can't wait until next time... Same blade time, same blade channel! My neighbor across the street brought me her mower that she flipped completely upside down because she thought that's how to clean it! There was oil coming out of the muffkin!
thank you so much for sharing, great video!
You are one crazy son of a buck. I almost broke my stitches. I can see I'm to dam serious. Thanks for the great videos. You are one of a kind.I love it. give us more.
Thanks Taryl this was informative and entertaining
Hi Taryl, I have a 2007 Troy-bilt Pony Model 13AN77TG766 and I followed your video to change the upper and lower drive belt and took it for a test drive. When the parking brake was engaged I moved the transmission from neutral to forward and my mower started moving forward as if it was in 7th gear (almost did a backflip lol). So I put it back into neutral and cut the engine and followed your brakes video and cleaned and adjusted the brakes. Afterwards the parking brake worked correctly and the brakes also worked correctly. I took it for another test drive and again after moving the transmission into forward it was moving forward with the parking brake engaged. So I thought I did something wrong and took everything back apart and this time took the variable speed pully out to inspect it along with the bearings. The bearings needed to be changed so I did that and once again put everything back together and took it for another test drive. Long story short I am still having the same issue when putting the mower into forward or reverse when the parking brake is engaged it is moving and seems to be in the 7th gear. Not sure what to do at this point. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Really enjoy your videos.

Im having this same issue on the exact mower you have.. what was the solution??
Nice work! Thanks!
Entertaining and informative. "Love what you do and you'll never work a day in your life". I have the 7 speed w/out shift on the go. I will never buy another Troybilt again in my life if I have anything to say about it. I did just put a new $21 carb from eBay on it and now it starts easy and idles. Hasn't idled in the 5 yrs. I've owned the thing. It sounded so smooth my neighbor came over and commented on how smooth it sounds!!!???
I actually watched the end, lol nice video blademan and throttle
Dude! that was a wicked video! Great job Boys
thanks Taryl keep the videos coming. Good information.

Melbourne Australia here: Thanks Taryl, you put a lot of work into these videos and it's really much appreciated. The knowledge on how to do this stuff is generally found by trial and error, you save us all a bunch of time. These mower manufacturer bastards could maybe look into how their Frankenstein creations are maintained once in a while - seems to be a forgotten part of the design process...
I learned alot and got a kick out your video. Thanks.
It was the parking brake releasing the tension that got me. Access to belts on riding mowers is way way way more difficult than my walk-behind Lesco mowers. I'm not used to all the extra steps for what is such an easy swap on a walk-behind. You did a great job of explaining the steps and tricks of your trade! Thanks

Same here. Until I listened better and put parking brake on I could not get old belt off!!!
What an ending! You are the master!
Just replaced these belts on my neighbor's Troy-Bilt Pony. That variable speed pulley and two belt system has to be the goofiest set up ever devised to run a mower! Straight out of the Rube Goldberg School of Mechanical Engineering. I'm glad I've got an AYP hydro drive machine. Couldn't have done it without this video though. THANKS!
very helpful video, thanks ,
Hey Bro.......i just came back in the house to tell you...i did what you said.....blocked the tank from leaks took out my battree........flipped my lil Red Bull ( LTX 1842)... on its side with a stool chair i had out in my shed for years ....totally useless stool has redemed itself .........got to my drive belt with no problem .......you got a new student....thanx Dude......
funny stuff, I was riding my tractor and drinking my beer when I ran up on my box blade and got it stuck rite there. the tractor begin to smokn while I finished my Brew till I figure it out to turn off the motor 🐿️ but it was too late for my belt it got the screw. so I toed er back to camp and that's when I found this awesome video show.,teaching me how to keep my belt round and my old tractor on the go. thank YA, thank ya very much💀🐧🤘
Did he say: "Maybe because I pissed in it"....at the end? These videos are hilarious, and informative! Thank you!
Thanks your video helped me tremendously.
Love the video. I was able to do the work myself. Thanks
Replaced my belts on my " Troy Built ", MTD last year, and I would rather been in a Bar Fight and lost, then to go through that again. Apparently mine is a older model, it has a Go Petal, rather then a 1-7 speed control. And you have to Pawn your first born to buy the belts, but then I did buy factory belts. Hope you made Choker eat the rest of that Salsa, serves him right. He seems to look a little like Slippers....But that could not be slippers, Hes a nice guy, weird but nice. Oscar Material fur shure.
Another great video......good job guys !!!!
Thanks for this video Taryl!! I have to do this soon and your tips helped. Tell Blademan Way To Go !! I would have done worse to the Choker's Salsa...
Very Good Teacher THANKS
Oscar winning performance
Hi, Enjoyed your video on changing out the belts on a Troy-bilt. I have a Huskee, model 13WV771S031. (looks very similar to the machine you were working on). It cranks great, mows great on low speed, but when I increase the speed above 5, it starts chocking down. I cleaned out gas tank, changed fuel line and fuel filter and Had carburetor "rebuilt". I had to replace one spindle and two brake assemblies on deck. Will also replace all belts. Before I put everything back together, can you tell me if there is anything else I need to check (maybe switches) that might be causing it to chock down when the blades are engaged and on higher than 5 speed? (BTW, I can run the mower on high speed without the blades engaged and it runs great). Thank you for any suggestions and keep posting the videos. Janis
I came back just to watch the ending again. That's just so funny. Lol
did that repair today, except with the mower on it's side, my son removed the spring from the transmission drive belt tensioner pully and it literally fell off, amazing
great video man
Thank you for sharing this video, it help me alot
can you do a video on adjusting the brake linkage and brake pedal on the MTD / troy bilt?
I have a troy-bilt big red horse 50" from about 2005 and the drive belt broke on it other day (not all the way but u know) and it has the pedal that farther u push the faster so basically not shift on go but variable. Is it as simple as this one or should I leave it to a dedicated mower repairman? Thanks, great video.
I need brake replacement on a tb30r, but u guys r awesome! gosh they never send onstructions anymore..lol
Hey thx for the video man ! Can you please tell me what belt that is that goes from the top pulley at the engine, all the way to the bottom of the pulley in the back ? Part number if possible. Thx
Jesus...I'm actually happy to see a new Taryl Fixes All video. Love it. I use a piece of starter rope to pull on tough springs.

so good!
He's wearing three costumes at the same time. Genius!
hey taryl..you must have a good air conditioner in your shop because you don't hardly ever break a sweat. great video, keep em coming!
well done that man , as they say in northern Ireland , keep her lit man , thumbs up
You guys are mental. Thats good! Great video.
That's the best video I've ever seen.
Thank y’all picture show is great, thanks for the step by step video.
This better than TV
Great video. I changed the drive belts but strangely enough, now the upper belt keeps slipping off the spring pulley/ trans pulley after about 5 minutes of mowing. Any ideas why this would be happening ?
Good job…..thank u…..will always watch your videos….
If you're still around --- great video. I have a problem with an LT 1500 Craftsman - it has two drive belts and one deck belt. The deck belt is no problem but the drive belts look formidable. Can you do one of those?
Doesn't get any better . 👍👍😎
Great video wish you lived near me 🙂
I will mention, although you being the more experienced mechanic versus myself, that the 35" belt underneath the seat, that's the only riding lawn mower I've ever seen that there were bolts to hook the spring on to, as shown extremely briefly around 18:40. I recently undertook this job, and on my tractor, there was a hole in the frame that the spring went through as well as a hole on the bracket that the pulley was bolted to. Just a mention, those bolts might not be OEM.
I just bought a used Troy bilt bronco and when I switch the blades from five to one the blade slows down to the point they are barely cutting anything. When it's set on 4 or 5 it cuts fine. Any ideas on what it could be? Love the vid!
I bought a used Bronco a couple of years ago. The belt started smelling like burning rubber and eventually smoked and threw itself off the variable speed pulley in the back. I replaced my lower drive belt (the 5/8 x 91 one) with a non-OEM Kevlar belt of good quality. It worked but the crankshaft pulley gets really hot and the new belt started smoking. Also when it's sitting with no pressure on the pedal, it wants to creep forward. The belt is NOT tight on the crankshaft pulley when it's just sitting but again, gets hot and smokes. I've read that getting non-OEM belts can cause overheating of the belt. Have you run in to this?
Thank you for the Awesome Videos. Where can I get all new pony belts and a new deck pulley? Thanks again!!!
thanks Taryl ...
I have a hint for all on here. My buddy tears apart microwave ovens for the copper and other metals. He gives me the magnets sometimes. They are 3 to 4 inches across something like a speaker magnet. Ok when you undo your pins on the deck the arm almost always falls down and the deck is hard to slide out cause they get in the way. Put a magnet on the frame and put the arm on the magnet Voila.... third hand. Do both sides and you don't have to call Hunny outside to help you. I also put a mag on the decks of mowers to hold the pins and bolts. Small sockets won't roll around and fall on the ground either !!!! Hope this helps ~!~! From a very wet Cajun Country Yep we are still flooded here !!!!
Just what I needed!!
Excellent !
You guys are so funny and full of it Thank You’ll 😊
Really enjoy your videos next to God I dont see how I can survive the mowing season with out you. Got a old 18 1/5hp 42in Poulan with just a auto shiftier on it, can you show how to trouble shoot and keep one in good shape cant find NO info on them no way. Thanks keep up the good work.
that seat spring is a beast to put back on......big flat head screw driver and a lot of heavy pulling to get it to hook on back of seat mount

For sure
would you happen to know the part number of the belt that goes from the motor to the rear poly. Im having trouble finding it thanks....
Taryl, thank you for showing us this stuff!!! Im looking at buying a new Troybuilt Pony with this 7 speed varidrive sytem thinking this is more durable that the plastic transmissions used on the hydrostatics, am I correct in thinking this?
I’m getting a hint of Bobby Possumcods! Lol
Thank you!
It's not the tractor I need to fix but God damn I'm so emotionally invested in whether or not throttle gets the ultimate choke out!

What am I watching right now? 😂😂
Also another thing to do if you need to change the belt on one of these mowers is take the body off it's a lot easier to work on 4 bolts on the seat and 2 under each foot pad
I don't weld those idler arm spring holes anymore. I just go right beside it and still a new one
Excelent video
Aare those your real teeth your trip ma'am you're funny I just love you guys very good job I'm cracking up watching this
You have to play a "fart" sound effect when you torque those bolts... "$h!t... That's tight.!"
I was so worried about Throttle. Glad Blademan saved him in the nick of time and gave that hideous Choker exactly what he deserved. Well done Taryl.
i have this same mower but when i release the break pedal it will not go all the way back so it can run in high gear. All brand new belts all pulleys nice and free spinning. Love to just bypass the 7 speed control.
The choker is my new favorite villain.
THANKS TARYL GOOD INFORMATION ...........THERE'S YOUR DINNER.......
Goofy. But VERY Good! Going to do this when parts arrive. My problem was : variable pulley heating up....throwing upper belt. Going to replace pulley, all belts, and bearing in the pulley. Hope it works. THANK YOU!
I use a long rope, loop it around the end of the spring and pull it into place. The drive pull on the front,I use a large pipe wrench on the long part of the shaft between the two pullys and us a big breaker bar,or two large wrenches with the open end locked into the box end of the wrench that's on the bolt/nut!have more leverage that way! With a bit of penetrating Lube or oil you should be able to bust that loose no problem. The problem I'm having is the duel pulley in the back for the drivetrain axle and the drivetrain motor belts The Sinner part tends to be pull down to where it keeps my drive belt and gauge all the time so even if I have the break on,it wants to move. How do I keep the center pull in the middle when the big drive belt is not in gear to keep the center pull center???? Please help!
great again
Love the video brother!! You're a crazy fool but love the information and entertainment!! Keep up the good work
What’s happening when I let off the motion pedal and it’s still going? I can’t even stop it with the brake. I can’t get it to pop out of gear either...
The rod on the front of the deck, is used to raise the front of the deck up TO keep grass and sticks floating into the pullies> If it rattles when mowing or driving it around NEED TO TIGHTEN THIS ROD UP SOME!
Can you do a video on how to replace the variable speed pulley?
I have watched this video 3 times. Great video. Did Blademan piss in Choker's salsa? If so, choker deserves it! LMAO! Cant wait for next video.
Do you recommend factory belts or generic from Amazon?
Ur the man Taryl 🎉
Any chance of oil getting into the muffler when its on its side. Love your videos, keep em coming!

Not if you drain the oil first
Can you give part numbers for the drive belt and engine to trans belt? Thanks
Oh man..That ending to the blademan bit... Do you have a video on, how to get into this business, like turn an mechanical aptitude into an ability.. a side "hustle" if you will. (if you do have a video covering this topic, I apparently have over looked it using the search function) Like Taryl, if you could go back in time and give yourself advice on How to make it, in small vehicle/engine tune up and repair.. in regards to tools, taxes, customer service, work space, lighting.. like just the basic pointers, to send yourself in the right direction.. .
See you next week, same Blade time, same Blade channel!
what would be the easiest way to take the mower deck off my 611Lt Allis Chalmers
Had to replace bearings on variable speed pulley. Pulled off casing but bearings on there are stuck on good. What's best way to get them off? Thx
I won an auction for a yard machine riding lawn mower. Everything sounded fine until I got it home. Now it sounds like a loud, low pitch noise whenever the drive pedal is pressed(forward or reverse). What should I do to diagnose/ figure out what's wrong so I can fix it?
