These stories are called "Greek Tragedies" for a reason. It is possible to feel sympathies on both sides of the conflict. My favorite character is Priam. For all his flaws in strategic planning, he still showed amazing character when he humbled himself before Achilles to beg for the return of Hector's body. I think that was the most powerful scene. I appreciate watching the pair of you and your interactions. I enjoy watching films with my own children but don't often have the opportunity. Treasure your time together and thank you for sharing some of it with others.

The man Paris gives the sword to is Aeneas, the mythical founder of Rome. The sword isn't in the story, but according to myth Aeneas was a refugee from Troy.

Rooting for Paris to kill Achilles while his cousin screams for him to stop and Achilles just killed Greeks to save her and after the talk Achilles just had with the King of Troy???!!!!! What? I’ve never seen anyone not rooting for Achilles at the end, especially after Hector was gone. Lol. To each his own I guess

Time period warrior movies, I always think of Braveheart, Troy, and The 13th Warrior. The last isn't a history tale with liberties to it. It's a story about a Muslim man traveling north, teaming up with Norse men, and fighting against an enemy group.

The 13th Warrior is loosely based on the account of Ahmad ibn Fadlan's time with the Rus Vikings, so at least semi historical. Excellent and underrated movie 👌🏻

Choreography of the fights, especially Hector vs Achilles, was great. I've read about Troy so many times in my childhood, so it was a spectacle to see it visualized. Of course, in this movie, there were no gods, but it is for the best, it was more grounded in reality. There were some changes for better movie script. Like Agamemnon dying in Troy stabbed by the girl. I think in the epos he was killed by his wife at home.

Indeed, according to Greek mythology Agamemnon was murdered by his wife Clytemnestra (half-sister of Helen) and/or her lover when he took a bath after he came home. Paris killed Achilles, but was later also killed by a Greek archer with a poisoned arrow.

Considering we now know Troy was a real place, and archeologists found the actual Trojan horse, there is little doubt that Achilles was a real person. Amazing how much we thought was just myths and legends turns out to be true.

The one person I feel sorry for in this story is Odysseus, he spent 10 years fighting in the Trojan War, and then he went on the Odyssey which added another 10 years to his journey, he spent 20 years away at war and fighting mythological creatures, it's a miracle he ever made it back home.

Compared to Ridley Scott's ''Gladiator'', Wolfgang Peterson's ''Troy'' is highly underrated, and imo it's a bigger achievement when it comes to filmmaking (technically and storytelling). Actually, I think even ''Kingdom of Heaven'' is way better than ''Gladiator''....although, I'm definitely not impressed by Orlando Bloom's acting, in both of these movies.

It's unfortunate that this version of the movie slaps on this super epic music during the Achilles vs Hector fight. Regular/theatrical version of the movie only has a lowkey drum beat instead, and you mainly just hear the sounds of their fighting which is very well done and really highlights both warriors. Here the music is more grandiose and epic, yeah, but it's just less fitting to me. Still an amazing scene though.

Excellent movie, the only problem with it is how they massacred my boy Menelaos. He was such a great guy in the original story. Nothing like the dumb unfaithful brute in this movie. He was a bit too simp-ish, but that can be excused by the fact that Helen was the hereditary queen of Sparta, and he was only her husband, so he kinda needed her. But he was destined to survive that story, and he did. Not like in this movie.

It kills me that y'all cut out one of the best parts of the movie. The speech that Achilles gives about how the Gods envy us, is so damn good. “The gods envy us. They envy us because we’re mortal, because any moment may be our last. Everything is more beautiful because we’re doomed. You will never be lovelier than you are now......... We will never be here again.” And her response is almost just as good. "So you're not just a dumb brute.....I could've forgiven a dumb brute." That speech is the best one in the whole movie. And y'all cut it right the hell out. Not cool. Not cool. 😠
