YOU are the BEST! If 2020 couldn't have gotten any worse, one of my 8gb stick decided not to be detected. After hours and hours of troubleshooting, the fix was as simple as cleaning the contact points with an alcohol pad.

Unfortunately didn't help me with my issue, but I really like how you explain things in a very straightforward way. And kudos for using timestamps - they should be obligatory for any video over five minutes! :)

Hi man! Thank you so much for this video, I was really thought it was the RAM modules but when I saw your video it made me try some more ideas with to check them out again. It helped me take out the sick RAM and now it has all been healed :D

This was very comprehensive and definitive. I liked it and it explained everything I needed to diagnose my sabertooth x58. looks like mine turns on, lights blink off, ram light stays on. test all slots, with old and new $15. no change. ram slots are bad. Mobo is R.I.P.

The videos and series are great. Keep it going. When you get a repair job, no matter how small or technical, good idea to film it and post your work up here on the channel as you have been doing. Even those older PC Desktops that you want to convert to gaming build. Perhaps you can tear them down back to a bare case, and demonstrate the build process from the very beginning to completion Another idea might be some videos on the software side of things. Primarily Windows installations from scatch, driver updates with a program like "Snappy Drivers Installer or DriverMax (I've tested and still testing these pieces of software, and they have worked a treat), applying the MS patches / updates, basic security setup, Windows optimization, particular software that you may be using, that you think the public could make use of, easy guide to backup solutions (really, how many people do regular backups??) Anyway, just some ideas which I'm sure you may have already thought of, but even though they may have already been done over and over, it's still good to have them on your own channel for your subscribers.

Awesome way of testing that's why it's best to have 2 computers to check parts. Thanks.

I made my PC unbootable by simply making a change of memory speed within the BIOS... I was using 4 sticks of ddr2 667/800 ram... the BIOS had the speed at 667 MHz... I switched the setting to 800 MHz, rebooted and that's when the PC wouldn't POST... it then started beeping 3 beeps 1 second long each... it cycled a couple of times then was silent but no post... HELP!

I also tried resetting the BIOS both with the jumper and pulling the CMOS battery but that didn't help... FYI

This is first class. I bought a new Corsair M65 pro gaming mouse. I installed the Corsair software and plugged the mouse into the USB. The Dell Optiplex 9010 lasted 5 seconds before the display pixellated and the PC died, failing to boot and showing 3 orange flashes, followed by 2 orange flashes. The manual said it was likely USB failure. It wasn't. It was Ram failure. Wish I'd found your video earlier. Thanks very much.

Seems to be a very common problem and good to see your very systematic approach. It would have been good to have some explanation on why ram issues prevent Bios post and what causes RAM and slots to fail suddenly.

Terrific videos dude .. very thorough, very informative... a bad memory module can be a serious pain in the a**. My PC was randomly restarting all by itself. It would run a few hrs, then screen would go black & PC would reboot. That lasted a couple of days. Then it stopped displaying all together. PC would run but nothing would display. After trying everything a novice like myself knows (swap vga cable for hdmi, remove unnecessary peripherals, etc), I remembered that I had recently installed 4G more ram on the system. I removed that 4G stick (bought used on ebay) and wouldn't you know it, the PC came back to life. Morale of the story: don't buy used ram on EBay :)

True, I've been lucky with used RAM so far, only 1 out of possible RAM was faulty, not a bad percentage for myself, bu for people who don't buy as often yeah its best to avoid...did you manage to get a refund?

@@HealMyTech1 Still in that 'refund/return' process.. vendor asked me to 'try to clean the ram stick', offered some very odd cleaning suggestions & then to try the ram again. I'm not sticking that thing back in my system!.. lol :)

Everything you said is happening to my machine. Edit: you should really mention ram speeds. They affect system stability also. Also, an example of system stability (after successfully booting to OS) can be shown with a video cutting to that point of time, as its impossible to predict it happening when you're recording single cuts. Nitpicking a bit here but there's generations of slotted memory before DDR1. You also had SDR and SIMM memory. There are even older types but then you're dealing with cards and then soldered chips. As for comparability, the FX series suffered along with Intel's ability to take higher density RAM. Ryzen 1st Gen had similar issues but was corrected with subsequent updates and generations.

Something else is up with mine, looks like failure on 3/4 ram slots. Your video is amazing, bless your soul

@@Alternatesociety kind of, it seems that the 5950x has trouble operating with more than 3 slots filled. I mean, its not even worth having 3 slots so 2 would be most efficient. it works now after that. the only reason i was able to confirm that was the case because i was helping my little brother make his PC and after experimenting, indeed it was the CPU that was somehow not vibing with 4 sticks of ram

That alcohol trick just saved me from returning my ram. Thank you!

I had 3 sticks of ddr3 (each stick being 2gb. So a total of 6gb) and I recently got 16gb (two sticks of 8gb) Yes they were also ddr3. And I’m pretty sure my motherboard only allows up to 8gb of ram. So I only put one stick of 8gb in, and the pc boots up, but my monitor, keyboard, mouse, and mouse pad don’t turn on. So I put my old ram in (the 3 sticks of 2gb’s) and everything worked just fine. So my two sticks of 8gb of ram have been collecting dust ever since, but I would really like to figure out why I can’t use the new ram. Please help

I recently tried plugging in a second monitor to my computer, I plugged in the monitor while the pc was on and the pc detected the monitor, however the monitor did not turn on(it was plugged in). I decided to try restarting and upon restarting it turned on for 5 seconds and turned off, and just kept looping like that without every turning on either monitor. Any idea what could have happened?

Hi Healmytech. I have just build a pc. The problem I'm having is that when a ram is installed on thr 4th ram slot. My system doesn't boot. Whereas if the ram is installed in 2nd or 3rd slot, my system boots. I have a dual channel ram and I have originally placed them at 2nd and 4th ram slots but it just won't boot up. great video I just added ram for a customer that I repaired..came with 4gb underside of motherboard and 1 slot under the door. I tried a 4gb ddr3 in the top slot and when I booted the drive light lit and then wwnt out and the laptop powered off. I went through 6 used ram same problem. The 7th ram stick booted fine. Somehow I forgot that bad ram could be the problem because the bios does`nt beep for lenovo, learned a lot from video looking for part 1.

my RAM on windows keeps saying 8gb installed but only (3.96 gb usable) on the pc properties page and people online are saying it's the RAM slots that are damaged but it only says this SOMETIMES, if I restart the pc sometimes it is randomly fine and I've tried swapping the ram around but the same issue and I'm honestly just confused.

About testing the ram slots ; you say take a ram and put it in the first and boot up, and repeat for the rest. Say ramslot 2 was faulty would the beep go off if you booted with the ram in 2? And what if your ram is faulty but your slots work, would the beep go off?

I bought 2 16 GB sticks for my PC, both work if you put them individually, but as soon as I put in both I get those long single beeps. So yeah, sticks are definitively working, but why do they won't work paired?

I have an issue. My ram would only work in single channel . Recently I wanted to get another ram stick and switch to dual channel. I put the sticks in slot 2 and 4 and when i turn on the pc the rgb on both ram sticks light up but there is no display on my monitor. If ram is not the issue (with proper check) you should be testing other components like the PSU to start.

So I just bought a new 8gigs of ram (HyperX). I installed the ram on slot one.. It only detected my previous 4gb ram(on slot 2). I took out the 4gb one and installed the 8gb ram on slot 2 ( the one which 4gb was installed) it detected it. I tried installing both again but my desktop would go to power saving mode , my keyboard and mouse won't function. I have a problem. I have inserted two ram memory cards in my laptop and clicked on the power button. The computer doesn't boot up, no spinning sounds, no speaker sounds and no display. I have watched numerous KZread videos and finally i found someone that can logically teach me how to troubleshoot my PC. I had my PC stuck in a restart loop one day suddenly and i heard that the solution might be to clean my RAM sticks, so i took them out cleaned them with an eraser then put them back. Now it gives me a blank screen and i can conclude that i have somewhat damaged my rams even though i handled them very delicately. Do you have any solution?

WHY WOULD YOU CLEAN THEM WITH AN ERASER?! Really though, that can damage the ram and slots if there is eraser rubber still on the pins. I clean my ram with a cutip, just a light brush.

Useful video, explained good. I'm having an issue with my pretty new pc. While using it normally, the applications will freeze but the mouse is still moveable. The taskbar is unclickable and the applications cant be clicked either to move them around. Pressing ctrl alt delete and all those commands does not do anything. Only way to get out is to reset the pc manually. I'm currently running memtest 86 since I was told it could be bad ram. Any suggestions?

For some reason my PC shows not monitor signal with 2 sticks, but not 1. My mobo is Asus Maximus Viii hero. If using 2 sticks, there will be no display signal form 1,2 modules, but posts from 3,4. The PC posts to windows form one ram stick. I swapped out the ram sticks. They both work

I have the issue where my computer is slow at starting up and freezes after 10 minutes of logging in... but after removing one of the RAM sticks it doesn't freeze anymore... the startup is still slow with various RAM sticks too that I tested. But everytime I put that second RAM it freezes... I did find/fix system files using SFC /scannow. At first I though it was the hard drive but none seems to be faulty and all are in good healthy status. I'm considering buying a new motherboard at this point. I like the idea of testing the RAM on another PC which is something I might be able to do but not sure if they're compatible...

I had an issue with my previous ram so I decided to update and get new ones i put both ram sticks on correctly and booted up my pc. My fan now sounds like a cricket and I can boot up only to my bios and then windows tries to start a repair. I am extremely stumped please help.

Ps: I used to run with 2x4gb corsair lpx vengeance but it only boot when 1 at a time in any slot or together on slots 1 and 4, any ideas?
