I know this farmer since a very long time I’ll tell you how it works with them..... Only 1 miner problem happens every month at the Goliad Farms.....and is fixed in not time While every 2 years....1 single disaster takes place That’s how the game goes !!!!

It is a bit overwhelming. The worst part was when I found my prize Red OB Peacock breeder male dead. I hope some of his offspring have survived so I can start again on that strain. Charles

Thank you. Yes, selection (natural or manmade) at work. Those fish with genes enabling cold tolerance are left in the population. Their offspring will inherit those genes. Charles

This storm hit us bad in Alabama as well. I'm very thankful we did not lose power. I'll pray for you and all the people in Texes. That pileup in Fort Worth was horrifying to watch. Keep the videos coming you have a amazing system. Wish you all the best!

They got used to dealing with mass massacres This is nothing compared to what happened years ago in hurricane Harvey Back then the Green house looked like as if a herd of African elephants 🐘 ran through it !!!!

I live in south Florida when hurricane Irma hit us we lost all power for 2 weeks lost just about everything, spacially my salt water tanks but thank God I am almost recovered from that learned the hard way, now i have 3 generators. God bless you

Cory brought me here. I love your natural setup, im so sorry for all your losses, somethings you just cant prepare for. Hopefully you bounce back stronger and some of those fish that surivived will be the cornerstones. You have a new sub. Will check out your blog too .

Thank you. We've removed most of the dead fish and fed them to the buzzards. We're monitoring ammonia at this time since our plant filters were not ready for the load they got offered. Tomorrow we start inventorying survivors. Charles

Thank you. I'm a bit numb from the losses. It really hit home when I found my Red OB Peacock, the culmination of years of work, dead. Oso, one of our German Shepherds, picked up out of a bucket of dead fish and ate him. That's some very expensive sushi. Charles

I've never heard a higher truth than that duckweed business. As soon as I started keeping goldfish, who absolutely LOVE to eat it, it stopped growing in all of my other tanks 🙄 Just found you today! Thank you. We are recovering. Nature can be difficult. It was 39F (~4C) this morning and due to the sun it was over 120F (~49C) in the greenhouses this afternoon. That wasn't a problem because we do want to raise water temperatures and it takes a while to budge 75,000 gallons (~285,000 L) of water. Charles Charles

Some of the fish are more cold tolerant than others. I expected mollies with Poecilia latipinna genes to survive since that species is a temperate zone fish. Charles

I hope the state gives you compensation! This didn’t need to happen, could have been prevented! The United States power grid is outdated and drastically needs to be updated!

The Texas power grid is even worse. Part of the problem is that most of Texas is on a completely separate grid. We see little chance the State will compensate anyone for the losses due to the storm. Charles

I’m sorry for your losses. Hopefully you have insurance. Your talk about duckweed was funny too me because I cannot for the life of me grow it. Your set up is wonderful I pray for you and your fish family. Let’s hope you have enough stock to start over

Thank you. We can't get insurance on aquatic livestock in Texas, so we aren't insured for those losses. We are starting inventorying today to see what survivors we have, starting with breeding vats. I can't imagine how you can't raise duckweed! Charles

Thank you for watching. It seems we've dodged a hurricane in this very active hurricane season. It's also a positive sign that La Nina is forming, which should give South Texas a warm winter. I've finally had some time to access the state of the greenhouses. Both Greenhouse 1 and Greenhouse 2 will need some rehab, which I hope to delay until next summer when it'll be easier to do. We have installed our new larger propane tank and new, more efficient generator. Our HVAC man is coming in to check out the two large greenhouse heaters to see if they can be rehabilitated. If they can't, we'll acquire two more smaller heaters to augment the two we currently have. That should get us through even an event like the Texas Winter Storm. Charles

I'd be so angry 😤and sad at the same time... previously i lost 4 fish while transporting and i swear, I didn't feel like talking to anyone else or even eat because of the losses.
