TROOPING THE COLOUR - COLOUR
(20 Jun 1976) The old custom of trooping a regimental flag or colour, was in order that the troops might recognise it on the field of battle. Today it is purely a ceremonial act to mark the official birthday of the Sovereign. ® ® HM Queen Elizabeth II takes the salute as the Regimental Colour of the 2nd Battalion of the Coldstream Guards is trooped. ® ® After the ceremony members of the Royal Family watch from the balcony of Buckingham Palace the Fly Past by the Royal Air Force.

This really explains what’s going on. Some others don’t do it so well. I loved seeing the Queen, riding sidesaddle on her horse Burmese. She always looked wonderful
Never realized this was the Queen's major gig inspecting the parade in uniform...and for 18yrs! You had an amazing and dynamic monarch, United Kingdom. May all future capable heirs follow her example.
Her Majesty has always made a great Soldier....ever since WWII....devoted and immaculate....loved seeing her on horse back and then saluting the troops........Timeless
Now she is no more... One of the kind Love n respect from Pakistan
The Queen Mom must be so proud watching her first born doing this, especially her Father watching from the heaven.

Yes. She loved her horse Burmese. The horse was in service until 1986., en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burmese_(horse)
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth is the finest monarch we have ever had... 😍
In this Trooping the Colour, Her Majesty the Queen is riding side saddle on Burmese (1962-1990), a black RCMP Police Service Horse (PSH) mare, was given to Queen Elizabeth II by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and ridden by the Queen for Trooping the Colour for eighteen consecutive years from 1969 to 1986..

If you look at the footage from then and now in 2022, you can hardly tell the difference, except that the Queen herself is no longer personally inspecting the parade.
The way she handled that was just beautiful and she calmed the horse which I have heard from experience people with horses say it's very difficult to calm horse with shoots the way she was sitting on the horse calm and she never flinched once or looked to what's going on Late Queen Elizabeth 👑 Late queen Elizabeth 👑

anyone else think that the moustaches are one of the bets things about this video?
I used to love it when the Queen rode to Trooping the Colour- she's a pleasure to watch, and there was something oddly touching about the sight of this tiny woman riding side saddle ahead of her guards. Also (and I realise this probably has something to do with my age) the men look smarter and more purposeful somehow.

The Queen looks so lovely in her uniform and on horseback. Pity the last time was in 1986. I guess it's not easy?

Those British guards are cheating here in 1976. Whatever happened to the two, three (about 2 seconds) pause in rifle movements at the ..."Present Arms' ,,,, and Shoulder arms"... they used to do it before 1940, and since then they go wack , wack wack... ... it hides mistakes. A five year old can do that. They should take a look at the the silent drill team of the USMC.... and the Canadian armed forces.

You're really going to compare British military tradition to a country whose barely got it's bib off. No, I think the instant response is better, and because of the faster pace, it would be easier to make a mistake. The human brain makes more mistakes when it moves faster.
