Trooping the Colour 1986 (Full Parade)

I'll be re-posting a lot of the trooping in the full parade format now! I'll also add the songs and times if I have the time free. I don't own any rights to this original video, just posting it for pure entertainment and history.. Enjoy!

I joined the Army two months after this parade, I remember watching this on TV. Reported to Barracks on the 18th of August 1986, four days before my 19th birthday. Left the Army 24 years later..

Standards were fiercely protected back then, unrecognisable compared to present times.

Can’t believe how many guardsmen are on parade compared to the last Trooping the Colour in 2019

and I can't believe how close the crowd can get and be natural and warm. Today everyone is streamlined into carefully guarded and supervised distanced spaces.

Just a couple of years before she stopped riding side saddle on the way down to Horseguards a man ran out of the crown right in front of her and fired 3 shots at her ( thank god it was found to be blanks) her horse reared and she fought it back under control ,without missing a beat she calmed it ,and carried on has if nothing had happened. The man who did it was sectioned under the mental health act. when it happened of course everybody including the Queen would think the shots were real bullets. Wonderful wonderful lady.

You're speaking from hindsight - knowing it was a bad actor shooting at the Queen. However, she didn't know that in the moment. Keep in mind that no one in the crowd ran either, and neither did anyone in the rest of the parade. It wasn't just the Queen. I know it's nice to think that the Queen has divine, royal nerves of steel and composure, but she's not a US Marine or a combat veteran, despite being decked out in military regalia; she's just a supremely sheltered European woman. The most likely explanation is that no one, besides the brave guards trained to look for and defend against scenarios like that, understood what was going on in that split second. If she understood that she was being shot at, she would've (and should've) reacted. But the reality is that it likely happened faster than she was able to understand what was happening. Most people who are near guns when they go off describe thinking that it was something else because they are not expecting gun shots. Even in America, with all of its mass shootings, people will still sit and not react to loud bangs that they are hearing, until it becomes undeniable that those sounds were shots. In the UK/Europe, especially, you would not automatically assume gun shots.

Eight Guard what a sight and a full massed band. All the guards tall and slim. Today Six Guard a massed band reduced by a third and guardsmen of all sizes in height and girth, shame.

@@columnedfox5508 As I replied earlier the credits must be from an earlier QBP. I know this is 1986 as I can see myself (as one of the four troopers of the Blues and Royals) riding in front of HM The Queen and that was the only year I was part of the Retinue.
