Amazing footage! I've read about the comparison trails between the FV432 and the M113, but it's incredible to see footage of them, and colour footage at that! Also nice to hear my old unit 2/14 LHR QMI get a mention too. And amazing to think the venerable FV432 still soldiers on in one form or another with the British Army after 60 years of service. As does the M113 with several armies. It's also great to see some of the B vehicles involved on the trails like the Studebaker 6x6's, Series 2 Landrovers. That Diamond T 980 or 981, and the Federal M543 wrecker. Great stuff!

There was also US M114, petrol engine, rear door circular shape, did have some use by US Army in Vietnam. At the end of the trials the M113, M114 and FV432 were stored for a short at the Army workshop, Bulimba, Qld.

I think ( non military here ) that the 432 was a little better in the traction field alone due, to its extra weight, plus better armour (so i hear ), i also think that the better sales were more down to the m113 being cheaper than better. Just my non expert opinion 🙂

Simple test drive - the Army way!

........all i know is going flat out in a 432 on a flat wet field and yanking on any tiller as ha4d as you can will get you a bang on the head fron the vchile commander......i cannot remember what the mortar pl record for 360s was 😂😂

Well you can see the M113's in shot occasionally and there is no mention in the movie of it being a comparative trial. The M113's used were production line vehicles so their design was a little more matured whereas the FV 432 were prototypes. Thank God we had the M113's in Vietnam Long Tam would have been quite different if we'd had to wait to erect the screens for fording! For those who claim the FV 432 was better, think of the sales of the M113.

Massive sales don't always translate to better equipment. The Challenger 2 didn't sell well on overseas market, but it did well in Iraq, especially when M1 Abrams, (which is an excellent tank also.) were being destroyed by 12.7 mg fire into the external APU. which caused running g fuel fires, wrecking the tank. Thankfully, the Abrams team managed to put an APU under armour for later versions.

The m113 was aluminum, the 432 steel........also the m113 door is hydraulic.......it sold well because it was cheap, not good....

seems like the trials are done in thier colonize country?

...I'm glad we got the M-113!
