Excellent overview of your new Trident! Triumph certainly nailed the looks of this bike. The silver / black / red color combination is subtle, yet fitting for this machine. I hope you have good luck with quality of this one! It certainly is nice. Ride safe and enjoy your new bike!

Excellent review. Can't wait for my one (in the same colour as yours), but will be registering in March. Send some of that great weather here to the UK!
@RocketMan_Moto
3 жыл бұрын
Lol, I left the UK 35 years ago, but I remember how obsessed everyone was with the letter change on August 1 when I was a lad. If it's any consolation, we had terrible weather all January and half of this month (cold, then rain). I was super lucky, because the warm sunny weather returned last Friday, when I went to collect the Trident! :)
You had me at prevarication ! (in true Jerry Maguire reference) once again your laconic sense of humour underpins a sterling review . I have the same Trident 660 (colour and bug screen also) on order and i am awaiting impatiently like a six year old waiting for Christmas morning ! Your no nonsense approach to reviews has solidified my feeling that i have chosen (without swinging a leg over) the right bike for me ! (new rider - wringing the proverbial nuts out of a CBR250R worse than the mangler on Aunt Ediths washing machine!) ...living in Australia I've ordered heated grips ?! Ill share later if that was necessary or not .
@RocketMan_Moto
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Simon. I know, the wait is torturous, but definitely worth it. The Trident may not be the 'best' bike in the world, but for the money, it's unbeatable in my opinion. Why spend more?? PS I didn't go for the heated grips, for obvious reasons. I'm surprised you need them in Australia :)
Lovely review and the size is what I am guided to as another aging biker (68 yrs). Regarding swinging a leg over the seat, I have found it better to put my left foot on the foot peg and use that left leg to raise my body easily over the seat. This “new” method of mounting has allowed me to easily mount a Suzuki DRZ400 even with a 29” inseam and my aforementioned age. Another professional presentation.

Thanks, but the camera does tend to enhance the state of the roads a bit. We're ok for potholes here in Portugal, because there's no frost in the winter (or very little), but the maintenance companies seem to have great difficulty with drain covers - they never seem to be replaced properly and are often several cm lower than the road :(

I totally agree with your assertion that torque is a better measure of an engine's performance than horsepower - torque gives you acceleration, whereas horsepower gives you speed. It is for that reason that I went for a Speed Twin: it has 83 lb/ft or 112 Nm of torque for phenomenal acceleration, and the 96 bhp is plenty good enough for real world speeds.
@RocketMan_Moto
3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, Peter. I tried the Speed Twin and loved that engine, wow! I was finding it difficult to justify the RRP, however, and then the Trident came out of nowhere at almost half the price. OK, it's a fair bit away from the 1200, but at least I've got some cash to splash on (unnecessary) accessories now, lol :)

Sorry to mess up your plans, lol. I was looking at a new Speed Twin, but couldn't justify the price for such an 'ordinary' machine. Then the Trident showed up at nearly half the price, so I went with that. I agree with the luggage problem! :)
Many thanks for the honest review. Not a bike for me - not a fan of its looks but that's a personal thing and not a fault of the bike. I am sure it will give many, many riders a lot of pleasure and I hope you get on with it better than the BMW(!).

Thanks, Phil. I agree it's a unique looking bike, but I happen to like it, even the giant Triumph logo. Ride safe :)
How does it compare in smoothness and vibration to the CB500X?

A lot better. The Honda was very buzzy, that's the main reason I sold it.
Can we put a after market exhaust (full system or slip on)?

Triumph say no, because of the big Euro 5 catalyser, but I'm sure someone will find a solution to that soon :)

@@RocketMan_Moto I'm hoping that it was just an issue with the bike I rode. But if so then I'm now concerned over reliability 😅
Congratulations RM on your new ride. We are still waiting here in Sydney for the delivery although we get the restricted A2 version. I have ordered the same colour, any thoughts on the trident accessories? How is the sat nav?
@RocketMan_Moto

You can only get the A2 version in Australia? A bit strange... None of the options I ordered was available on delivery, so I can't comment on the Bluetooth module. I also went with the quickshifter and USB charger, but I've cancelled the flyscreen and tank protector. I think there are more elegant solutions :)

@@RocketMan_Moto Yes, unfortunately AU get only a A2 version with 54 PS max power with a 59 Nm torque @ 5k rpm. Bluetooth connectivity would be a good option avoiding any need for after market phone holders. Thanks for the idea of a scratch guard sheet 😃

Thanks, Patrick. I strongly advise you to check how tucked up your legs feel on the pegs. I’m only 187cm, but I’m at the limit of what I consider comfortable.
Good Review, Congratulations on your purchase, Trident looks beautiful, love how the gas tank is taller than the seat, make you feel you are sitting in the bike and not on it. Triumph should carry this design to its Street Triple, Trident with bigger engine!!!! The only negative thing for me is the Price!!!!! It is priced like a middle size naked bike( Z900, Mt 09,..) . what other bikes in this size engine ( other than Mt 07) did you search before getting Trident? I think if you test drive the Suzuki GSX S750, you probably like it, more power, much better sound, probably less expensive, maybe the look is dated but the sound make up to it . Also as for Retro, Kawasaki W800 Series, are good bikes to test drive, specially the Cafe one.

Thank you, HS. I took my time after I sold the BMW F900XR in August and really looked at several different bikes. I was keen on the Speed Twin, but couldn't justify the price, so when the Trident came out, it was a bit of a no-brainer. Watch out for this afternoon's video, premiering at 4pm UK/Portugal time, where I go over what I've learned in the first week of ownership :)
Congratulations. Beautiful. Nice quick first owner's review of the Trident. The silver does pop in the sun in all the videos. You mentioned something about the clutch not being as light as you expected it to be. The trident is supposed to have a slip and assist clutch if i'm not mistaken. Would you consider the weight of the clutch to be a deal breaker?
@RocketMan_Moto

Not a deal breaker, but I've got 'big, strong hands'. It might be an issue for a woman rider??

@@RocketMan_Moto Would you say single finger operation is possible? I'm spoilt by the slip and assist clutch on my current Honda, hence the question. I'm waiting for my Trident over here in India. Didn't hear any of the other reviews mention anything on the clutch feel though. I'll find out I guess. Hope you are enjoying the new ride. Cheers.

Gorgeous bike RocketMan! I hope it gives you the spoiled feeling you were looking for and that you get a more pleasing love affair that the one you reported experiencing with the BMW. I'm with you on the need (or lack of it) for unnecessary complex gizmos and gadgets. Is there a way to fit a cellphone mount on the fork's top-end bolt? Cheers
@RocketMan_Moto

Thanks, Sebastiao. I have a RAM mount which I've bolted to the top yoke on a couple of previous bikes, and I'm sure it would fit the Trident. However, as I will have the Bluetooth module soon, I don't really need to have my phone on the bars :)
PD# Very useful, sensible and helpful review. , I'm a beginner motorcyclist, at age 48 end am small 166cm,, so which bike of this equation is right for me? I drive daily to work in the city and also the highway( Commuting) and sometimes during a weekend round of recreational so, which one? don't like Adventure such an engine, love Naked bike & sport tour bike so what is your opinion? Trident or Street triple ? or at least Adventure Tiger 800...

If you are relatively short, then the Trident (or Street) would give you more confidence as a beginner than the tall and top-heavy Tiger. You need to try them, though :)
