Loved the review, especially the 5 axis representation of the class it sits in Just a small correction, the engine is based on the renowned 120 HP Daytona 675 that's been de-tuned, with a longer stroke, narrower bore and 67 different components down to 81 HP. Finally, the engine has 64 Nm / ~48 ft-lb torque, with 90% torque available throughout the power band, from 3600 rpm onwards, that's why the awesome grunt at the start line, but tapering power towards the top end. Please excuse if I come across as narcissistic, but as a nerd, just wanted to add info that would help out.

@@GoodBalak you're talking out of your ass, Triumph has two major triple designs, one is the newer dry cylinder liner ones used in the tiger 900 range and the current gen 765 street triple, the other is the wet cylinder liner used in the old daytona 675s. Trident 660 block's parent is the old wet cylinder liner one (bulkier and heavier but cheaper to manufacture), if you mean the block is different from 765 then it is but the original commenter isn't wrong in saying the 660 is based on 675's engine since there is no 675 that was ever constructed with dry cylinder liner

I bought mine Friday. I bought it over the MT07 BECAUSE of the modes, traction control etc. This is my first mid weight bike, my last was an r3 320, so a pretty big step up for me. I've already clocked in over 300miles since friday. I LOVE this bike. You feel at home on it. You flex your muscles and she wants to lean over. The brakes are NO joke. I personally think they are a little to aggressive for my taste. If ive had the ABS kick in, I couldn't tell that it did. And its been raining for the last 3 days in my area. If you're on the fence for a middle weight naked bike, the Trident is the way to go. Let me assure you as well, the audio DOES NOT do a good job of transcribing what the bike actually sounds like. It's so much better.

@@joostinkong I haven't heard of a new bill legalizing lane splitting in Texas yet. I'm near Dallas, but Austin is a fun city. Be wary of I-35, the main highway running through Austin. It gets backed up constantly, especially if you're driving into Austin from the northern towns (Round Rock/Pflugerville). My recommendation would be to live as close to work as possible, and take your bike out to the Hill Country out west for fun twisty roads.

People always say lots of torque low down is "great for round town", which it is, but it's also great for open roads in the countryside etc. After corners you can build back up to speed so much quicker too. High reving, big capacity sports bikes are awesome for top end speed but you can't use that extra bhp unless you are on a track really... give me low down torqure any day.

OC: Triumph pulled a typically Japanese move by offering a competent bike at an entry-level price. I say it was a brilliant move to steal some buyers of the SV650, MT-07, etc...

It is smart cause I was dead set on mt 07 for couple years now but now that I’m finally in the market and they just introduced this and it’s thrown my bike decision back to the drawing board, and I’m highly considering this trident if it’s reliability can hold up

@@OneRichMofo It's so damn good that it feels and rides like an appliance. The mt 07 is just so rambunctious. It's best feature is the lack of features. Maybe not the best motorcycle I've owned but it certainly is the most fun.

Don't know why you were shocked. The Street Triple is a weapon. Not really a beginner friendly bike. The Street Twin is nice but has a different vibe (looks, character, riding) compared to this. It's an entry into the Modern Classic line while the Trident is an entry into the sport/performance line.

Even within Triumph its like every company hired Michela Bay to design their bikes specifically for his next Transformers movie. I'm all about aggressive looks but its a little much so this is a straight up revelation. It has absolutely nailed the modern retro look. I'm not a beginner at all but this is definitely in my future. Even if they hold their value, a gently used one in a couple yrs will be a steal. And having gone from 400cc to 600cc to 10000cc all I found was I could get to 60 faster. Fun yes, but overrated imo, I like my license. Great review.

Who needs modes on a bike? If it's wet and slippery, twist the throttle less, and brake lighter and earlier. If you want to race, twist harder and change up later.
