Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Explorer | First Impressions Review

Had the pleasure of taking this big beast, the Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Explorer for a quick test ride. If you are in the market for a big adventure tourer with all the features then definitely put the Tiger on your list.
Thanks for watching,

Made a mistake stating it has apple car play and android auto, the bike connects to your phone through triumphs own system 👍

Had the chance to test ride the 900 rally pro off road at the ABR festival here in the UK and it was brilliant, felt nimble and just like a big dirt bike….. it was lovely 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Yup...one of the best sounding engines out there, for sure. I had a Tiger 800xc a few years ago. It was a great bike all around. But that triple really is a special engine.

Hi Solid. Thanks for all you do. I am in Norfolk UK. I just watched a film you did a while back about scramblers. I have been thinking about CRF300L. I have also been looking at 500 Caballero. Just took out a demo and was really surprised how good it was off road. The big difference however is how much more comfortable is is to ride on the road. I have only looked at Enduro type bikes for trails, having just sold my very old 510 husky, great on the dirt but rubbish on the road. So I think I will be getting the Caballero. I never did manage to get the Husky to fly or climb up walls. The Cab is just so much easier to ride. Thanks for the idea. Regards William.

I rode a 900GT Pro and 1200 GT Pro back to back last weekend and loved them both but was blown away by the 1200. I ordered the Explorer on the spot and picked it up yesterday. I've just gone over the first 100 miles and can now take the RPM to 5000 (running in period), which is still very frustrating but the bike is fantastic. Looks great, huge range, goes like a train, comfortable and surprisingly nimble.

Gday Solid, fyi Cam Donald (of isl of Mann fame) just road a GT Rally Pro ( I think) in the 24hr reliability trial here in SA. He finished around 72nd out of around 150 solo riders. An epic feat considering it’s a race for enduro bikes (and sidecars), and just finishing it must give the Rally version some off-road credentials. His mate “only” got through 3 laps before a dnf. Now Cam is (was?) a professional road rider so he can punt a bike just a bit, but the IOM isn’t exactly dirt biking. Not sure if you or your viewers are familiar with this race, so check it out if you are interested. It’s an iconic race on the local calendar, which has been going for nearly 100 years. Keep up the good work mate.

When the first version of the 1200 came out, I sat on one at the dealership. I was shocked at the weight of it. It was all I could do to lift it off the side stand.

How was the handling on the highway behind cars and trucks in the turbulent air? Did it feel like you were getting knocked around or unstable?

Triples always make a nice noise, IMO. Riding towards the sunset in Perth isn't going to be a very long ride! 😂😂 Nice that you can get a test ride. The dealers here in western Canada all want their new bikes to read 0.0 kms... Cheers!

I test rode it and really liked it. But it doesn't have everything. It's missing radar adaptive cruise control, central locking on the panniers, electric windscreen and an alarm system. The windscreen is not good for taller riders, and there is no storage cubby in the cockpit. But I actually do really like it.

Managed to score me a pretty much new 2018 SWM Superdual X. Only 2k on the clock. Gets me in and out of the traffic while still being capable and light enough off road… Not as nimble as the CRF250L but I’ll adapt or get a CRF300 Rally or maybe Fantic Cab 500 Rally…

A lot of bike & inclusions for the money. Only prob I am finding is no where near the aftermarket range of parts & accessories compared to the CRF. May still order CRF Rally next year. Availability is suppose to be better around April 2023 ???

250kg? It is heavy, but that's the same weight as the old Suzuki Bandit 1250. When you consider that the Bandit has chain drive and a smaller tank, that's actually quite a good weight for the Tiger.

The outlay is significant and depreciation on these things is criminal. A mate has a super-low km 2017 model and he got it for less than half new cost. The Triumph Triple engines have long suffered reliability question marks. They certainly have plenty of go and shaft drive is nice for a touring bike but it really adds little when compared to a GS which is what most people will cross-shop it with.

Not being just another GS is one of the Tigers best selling points. It also shows you know how to properly ride a bike. A GS is the bike for those who can’t do proper twisties.
